The best thing about Sun Rice hotel is Jeff and his family. From the moment we booked he took care of us. He is a leader in the community and knows all the best places and routes. His English is fluent and he's a great tour guide. Very adaptable and sensitive to the needs of his guests. You will experience Ruteng in a special way. His wife is a great cook and his Homestay is clean and comfortable. Make sure you take the Sun Rice sunrise walk and have Jeff take you to the best bakso restaurant! Also the waterfall trek is amazing. We got to sit in for his church choir practice and met many of his extended family. We didn't just visit Ruteng, we made new good friends there.

Kanawa Island Resort Kanawa island is located just 6miles away from Labuan Bajo, at the borders of UNESCO World Heritage site, Komodo National Park.
Part of the charm of the Kanawa beach bungalows is the 'back to basics' feel of the place. If you're wanting a polished, 5 start hotel experience then this probably isn't the accommodation for you. Whilst the huts are basic, with water and electricity only available at certain times of the day, once the tourist boats leave for the day then you're left with a peaceful, beautiful and tranquil island, and a perfect opportunity to relax, rewind and escape from the crowds. When the main beach got busier, we just relocated back to our hut and enjoyed a different beach view. Snorkelling in the crystal clear water from the jetty before the boats arrived was just breathtaking, with such an abundance of beautiful fish so close to you. One morning we were the only people in the sea which was awesome. Food was basic and slightly more expensive than in Labuanbajo with limited choice but the snorkelling, sunsets and uniqueness of the whole Kanawa Island experience more than made up for it.

The owner was lovely and very helpful. As soon as we arrived she asked what our plans were and helped us in getting it all organised, she also organised airport pick up from Ende and helped us book a car to take us to Bajawa after our stay. The fruit pancake for breakfast was delicious. The room itself is very basic but clean enough and the bed is comfortable. We unfortunately didn’t get to see a sunrise at Kelimutu as it was a little cloudy but that didn’t make it any less majestic, well worth the trip. Moni itself is very small with just a couple of restaurants, but we got a motor bike (also organised through the owner) and there are lots of gorgeous places to drive to.

I spent à wonderfull week at Loedi bungalows. The location is just in front of the beach and perfect to enjoy a beautiful sunset. Vincent & Isabel were very nice and the food was excellent. Mangrove, view points and villages are 2 kilometers away from the bungalows so it’s easy to visite and enjoy the beauty of Rote island. Last but not least this beach is a huge spot for kitesurf and got a amazing reef for snorkling. Loedi rocks and i’ll be back for sure !

This was my 4th time at Seed and by far the best thank you to the great hospitality of Faizal and his team. The staff that has always been kind is now also very attentive and made our trip unforgettable. We really wish to thank you Riko for managing the restaurant so well, Wayan for preparing all those delicious meals and Faizal for being always on top of everything in such an incredible way. Just looking forward to going back to seed for our 5th visit!!! Margherita, Martina, Claudia and Daniele

The Malole surf house team with more than 25 years surfing in this area has carefully addressed each aspect of this unique island, and after 10 years catering for surfers and adventurous travelers, have managed to create the ultimate Rote surf lodge. Providing excellent accommodation, superb gourmet meals, and a wide range of activities to enjoy this Island at it best.
I have just returned from the best trip. The opportunity came up to visit Rote Island. Having always been high on my list, I jumped at the chance. The only disappointment was that I hadn’t made the time to do this earlier. We ventured off and landed squarely on our feet, toes in the sand of Nemberala beach. The Malole Surf house was epic. The operators had spent their time well, fine-tuning their offerings. They had created the most relaxing and homely ambiance. It was like stepping back in time. The history hanging on the walls told a lot of stories in their own right. We were fixed up with an abundance of tasty and fresh food. This is no mean feat considering the isolation of these parts. On the food front, we couldn’t have hoped for more. Malole had also organised scooters for us to go exploring the south of the island. We met many great characters along the way. We took in stunning landscapes. I will be returning as soon as the opportunity presents itself again. Next time I will carve off more time. It was tough to break from the rhythm of Rote. A great big thanks to Maria, Diego, Dani, their families, and the staff of Malole for being perfect hosts. To the local characters, I would like to thank them for sharing their stunning island with us. See you all again soon.
