Fairytale villages, thermal baths, casinos and pine and birch-blanketed mountains beckon travelers to southwestern Germany's Black Forest. Scenic drives and train trips showcase the best of the area. Skiing, hiking, mountain climbing, boating and ice-skating are popular activities. Baden-Baden's Roman-Irish baths, 19th-century performance hall, casino and fresco-adorned Pump Room are much visited. Gothic masterpiece Freiburg Cathedral and its famous Boys' Choir also draw visitors.

We had a amazing night at the Hotel Ochsen on the 18 October 2019 . The owners are very friendly and very hard working. The Hotel was very clean and very traditional , bright and warm. Breakfast was superb with many different products from this area. Our room was 109 it was a room to the back of the hotel, bright and quiet, the bathroom had under floor heating which was fantastic. We definitely go again.

This review is about the Brewery/Restaurant not the Hotel. A trip to the 80s. Old hotel-restaurant in the center of the sanatorium/spa area of the town. We were the first customers of the day and the clientele arriving after us was mirroring the age structure of the staff. 70+. They had 5 beers on tap (Export, Kurpils, Schwärzberg, Raban and Kurweizen) and two Hopfenstopfer beers on bottles (Citra and Incredible). It's a bit weird that the supermarkets in the region have better selection of their Hopfenstopfer beers than they do. Maybe the sanatorium visitors aren't that adventurous and don't drink IPAs. The food was really old school. I wasn't expecting anything else. Friendly service though.

Amazing host made us feel so completely at home, we arrived late at night and he couldn’t be more helpful and hospitable, would highly recommend anyone interested in visiting this region to stay here you won’t regret it!! We even shared some late night, night caps with the host and some other lovely fellow travelers from Belgium

We had a lovely stay at the Federwerk hotel. We had 2 rooms side by side because we have 2 kids. The rooms are spacious, very clean (the hotel is new, only 2 years). The staff was very kind and polite. We had a dinner at the restaurant and it was delicious ( we are french and the quality of the cooking is really important). Congratulation to The Chef! The breakfast in the Covid 19 environnement was very good, they had a very good process, very safe for the guests and the staff. All was perfect for out stay in this hotel. We will comeback in the coming years surelly.

Good Family Hotel in the Black Forest. The hotel is in a very small village in the Black Forest. A lake just across the road where we walked by on our relaxed days. Our day trips were all around 60 mins away by car (a car here really is a must if you want to explore). We explored Baden Baden, Schloss Hohenzollern. Freudenstadt is not far away and we visited an indoor pool here. Hotel is well maintained and clean, staff are for the most part friendly. Food is very good, but very German! A lot of heavy meals of creamy dishes, but the salad buffet before dinner makes up for that. Breakfast was all great and kids loved the pancakes. We had a connecting room which was more than enough for our family of 5. The pool was small but looked good - we never used it. The outdoor play area for the kids was used a lot and the kids loved to jump on the trampoline. Our kids visited the Kids club on a couple of evenings and very much enjoyed it. The staff very friendly.

I’ve no idea why people have rated this place so well, there is no bar, no pool and it’s in the back end of nowhere! The room was clean, but the ‘natural/nature’ pins generated so many flies they flood into the room. The balcony is just big enough for two chairs, but the restaurant downstairs is quiet loud, so again you can’t sit out. The restaurant and the hotel are dog friendly, so be aware of the midnight bark!!! This place is OK at best. I’d recommend you stayed in down town baden baden

I decided to have some time off, but in a relaxing place, where I can enjoy quietness and nature. I spent a whole week at hotel Ailwaldhof and it was exactly what I needed. It is a family business and far from being a busy and hectic place. The hotel is small and located in an outstanding area. You can enjoy walks in the beautiful black forest which is a few steps from the hotel. There are tracks such as Tonbachsteig, which take a few hours, but offer a unique experience. The wellness area of the hotel, sometimes just for yourself, the nice bird singing and serenity will make your stay memorable. The Haist family is extremely kind and helpful. The food is outstanding and not expensive. I recommend the place with no reservation whatsoever. Enjoy it!

Excellent find. Friendly staff, GREAT breakfast, nice modern rooms. Fast WiFi (44mbps tested). Close to good dining and an Edeka. Location is a quick 10-15 minutes from Centrum and there is cheap parking in the city.
