10 Top-Rated Ranches in Queensland

May 1, 2023 Darleen Reid

Some of Queensland’s most remarkable sights require you to leave terra firma. Off its coast sits the Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef. Snorkel and scuba among 1500 resident fish species, or sail through the Whitsundays’ white-sand atolls. Back on dry land, you’ll find tropical escapes in the Daintree Rainforest to the north, rugged outback to the west and alfresco dining on the Gold Coast in the south. South East Queensland boasts mountain views, vineyards and ‘river city’ Brisbane.

Peaceful, relaxing, tranquil

Reviewed By barrettg41

After a surprisingly route down the bottom of a residential street we arrived at Amore. The cabins were set apart with an abundance of trees in between. We had arrived a little early but the lovely gentleman was understanding and had no issue letting us into our cabin. The cabin was wonderful with everything you needed, the spa bath was definitely big enough for two and breakfast was a great treat in the morning. We would definitely love to visit again in the winter and use the log burner.

Unique Hideaway

We stayed 3nights in The Escape Shack. We were absolutely delighted with this unique style of open air accommodation. The presentation and cleanliness were top rated. The peace and quiet was such a contrast to our busy hectic lives. The views from the deck were amazing and the sunsets spectacular out over the inlet. 1770 has a local pub for afternoon drinks and dinner and great fish and chips at the marina. A short 7 min drive takes you to Agnes Water to a number of eateries, Foodworks and the best Gelato for an afternoon treat!! We were so sad to leave this peaceful haven. The hosts are so welcoming and helpful with information and I commend them on the beauty they have created in this special hideaway. If you want a quiet relaxing break this is for you. Thank you.

Peaceful and pleasant

Reviewed By Shiyu

Pleasing house layout and decor with spacious rooms. The floor to ceiling north facing glass windows were marvellous for taking in the ‘far horizon’ view with the warmth of the Autumn sun on our old bones. The covered veranda was also perfect for observing the wide variety of bird life and wallabies. I especially enjoyed tending the log fire but there was air conditioning and ceiling fans in all areas to maintain climate control without hauling wood upstairs. A full laundry was a bonus (washer and dryer) but we missed the convenience of a dishwasher. We found the mattress had seen better days and we also missed the luxury of our king size bed - the bedroom had ample space for a king bed.

Not Covid cancellation friendly.

Reviewed By Pedro D

We paid in advance for 3 nights accommodation for a 3 generation family group. We had to cancel at very short notice because a key close family member of the party contracted Covid19. Their policy is no credit no refund so we lost the lot! So their fine print says no refunds within 14 days of stay. And in a polite exchange they pointed out we should have obtained travel insurance. Who does that for a farm stay? Insurance can add up to 20% to the cost of the booking. So my mistake all up. But I recommend using one of the other local farm stays that has a refund or credit Covid19 caused cancellation. That’s what we will do next time.

Give me a home amongst the gum trees

Reviewed By Travellingvictoria

What an absolute delight to sit on the deck of Moonlight Cottage and while away an afternoon, leaving the cares of the world behind, followed by a relaxing float in the spa. We very much enjoyed our stay at Allawah Retreat. From my first contact with Rosemary I knew that we would be well looked after and we were. On arrival at our home away from home (if only my home could be this serene) we found lots of delights including a delicious array of breakfast treats, fresh fruit, tomatoes, avo's, eggs and all sorts of condiments .. and then there were the other treats, Tim Tams and wine .. could it get any better. Our cottage was neat and tidy and just so relaxing, almost to the point we didn't want to leave, but Allawah is centrally located so it was easy for us to drive out each morning to look around the little gems to be found on the Atherton Tablelands (definitely check out the Mining Museum at Herberton ... so interesting) and Yungaburra was a pretty 25 minute drive .. so a perfect destination for lunch. Beautiful walks a views very close to home as well .. Maurie pointed out the points of interest around Allawah and we had an energetic 'stroll' (take a walking stick conveniently provided at the door to the cottage) up to the lookout .. the views .. breathtaking (once we got our breath back .. lol!) .. highly recommend and am hoping we can return one day.

Fantastic stay at Hunchy Hideaway Montville. Awesome location and cabin with 100% privacy. Huge King+ bed with spa bath overlooking the beautiful rainforest. Kitchen amenities were great so we could eat in and enjoy the surroundings or just relax in front of the cabin fire place. Host Jack & Lana went out of their way with making us feel welcome. They also went beyond with welcome treats and some local products for breakfast. Awesome little hidden walk for the adventurous down to the creek and up the rocks to a great waterfall and swimming hole. Highly recommend for those who want a romantic and secluded getaway and unplug from the rat race.

They have everything you could possibly need, even a BBQ. There is even a DVD library, if you get tired of all the wildlife and nature walks...needless to say, we didn't even turn the TV on!! Well worth a visit and a stay.
