After thoroughly enjoying the Dormy Inn in Morioka I find this old property absolutely dreadful! No security lock box in the room and our room (540) had a sink faucet not secured to the counter. Worst of all was the absolutely HORRIBLE breakfast they served. It defies description when looking forward to a typical Japanese breakfast like they served in Morioka and finding cold scrambled eggs, sliced ham and sausages and a terrible stew. It's back to Mitsui Garden Hotel from now on!

We stayed here during the ski season in February. Pros – Free shuttle from the train station, friendly staff, easy access to the ski area and lifts, clean room. Cons – Everything is spread out, so a lot of walking. The breakfast buffet is very simple, nothing fancy. We also heard a low “dinging” sound in our bedroom, especially at night. We mentioned this to the staff and they said “No, there is no sound coming from that floor.” Excuse me? Heard it every night and brought it up to the staff again and they said “We will look into it.” Still haven’t heard back from them.

Stayed in 432, Basho-Tei floor, with the view of the pine islets. The room was well worth the price - I had upgraded it to this floor. Staff spoke limited English but there is a translation device which assisted in the communication. Worked my way around with my limited Japanese. The private ‘Kagomi’ onsen was luxurious and clean. I did not use the public onsen offered. I also used the shiatsu massage services. Breakfast was a buffet style catering to those with a taste for Japanese and Western cuisine. Went to their first floor restaurant who offered the seasonal speciality (a hotpot of good quality beef and yam) at 1800 jpy It is conveniently located near all the sightseeing spots and Fukuurajima bridge. Everything to see was walkable. Left there well relaxed and taken care of. Recommended for those who want to honeymoon there - ask for the matsu suite.

Came here with the family and in-laws for a few days end of July. It's tucked away so you will definitely need a car to move around. End of July means many insects even when the weather is abnormally cool for this period. Breakfast is pretty much the same thing everyday if you are going for Western food. Onsen was ok.

The suite had a great view and to top it off, there is a private onsen. Ski, eat & soak everyday- cannot get any better! Special shout out to Kenji San & Daisuke San, who made the experience memorable. We will be back soon

Stayed in the Japanese style tatami room. It's warm and cozy. Clean and well kept. The dinner was very delicious, especially the grilled beef, tender and juicy. Breakfast was buffet style, not too bad, plenty of food to choose from. Staff members were warm and friendly. We were picked up by hotel staff from bus station within 10 min after a call was made to them. The driver also sent us to our next hotel nearby. View from our hotel room was serene and pretty.

I can't say much about the hotel but I can recommend their onsen during winter. The outdoor onsen was such a blast. I was there soaked in a hot water while the snow is falling. The way to the hotel is a bit difficult though the hotel provide pick-up. I found it to be very clean.. If you are in Akita in winter, visit this hotel and try the onsen.
