10 Top-Rated Motels in Queenstown, Otago Region, South Island

May 1, 2023 Russell Mellin

Staggering beauty and heart-pumping thrills await in the resort town of Queenstown, which is also known for its Hobbits—much of the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed in the area. Outdoor enthusiasts flock to Queenstown for the kayaking, bungee jumping, jetboating, white-water rafting, hiking and skiing. More mild-mannered adventurers can take a quiet cruise through nearby Milford Sound, part of the Fjordland National Park World Heritage area, or sample South Island pinot noir from one of the region's 75 wineries.

Arrived late, directions for key pick up were easy and clear. Room was dark so couldn’t read the directions left for turning lights on but otherwise a comfortable stay. Booking was made earlier that day for an early morning flight. Recommend.

Everything you need for a stay in Queenstown

Reviewed By plumbob76

I stayed in a spacious and simple one bedroom unit, just a few minutes walk from the bustle of Queenstown central and yet on a really quiet street. The unit was spotlessly clean and came with everything I needed for basic self-catering. The breakfast supplies (bread, jams, juice, yoghurts) and snacks (muffins, muesli bars) were a delightful surprise and set me up well for days of walking in the mountains. This isn't the flashiest place in Queenstown but is in a super-convenient location, had everything I needed for a 3 night stay and was really good value for money.

Not trustworthy business. They are communicative until they owe you a refund - and they ghost you. We had to go there in person to finally receive the refund they owed us. I would not recommend this place to a drawing dog.

Cheap and nasty

Reviewed By Explorer34016143451

So we knew this accommodation was cheap but there's cheap and cheerful and cheap and nasty and this was the latter. Mattress on one bed had springs about to break through and provided little rest. The bathroom had obviously seen better days and was uninviting and in poor repair and very small in size. Plenty of signs around saying you could be evicted for poor behavior and loud noise but when the noise and shouting continued all night there was noone on site to tell. The poorest display of accommodation I've been in even when I was expecting a backpacker style stay. Trying to find a positive....the view of Remarkables from balcony and a short walk to town is in its favour, however we will never return.

Great location and value

Very clean and well set up motel a short walk from the middle of Queenstown. There's a view of the lake and lots of space to sit outside. Our unit had 2 enquite queen rooms and 2 singles in the lounge with a kitchen which was just big enough for us. It was warm and quiet, despite being so close to the main road.

Good location

The room was clean, but the windows and net curtains were mouldy. The room smelt like mould but was over powered by freshener which was sickening. We had to turn the fridge off so we could sleep, the bed was comfortable. Never saw any staff, no one in reception just called a phone number and he told me which room we were in. Reception was closed when we left.

Fantastic location

Reviewed By MummaandCo

We got a great deal on our apartment & were very happy with it. Easy check in with the lock box. Beautiful view of the mountains & gondola. Right beside the road which contrary to other reviews we loved as you can people watch. Appreciated that the heaters & TV were on ready for our arrival, so lovely & warm. Parking included was fantastic & easy walk to town & restaurants, yes the hill is VERY steep but it takes less than two minutes. Only negatives were terrible shower pressure & no electric blankets but there was other blankets provided. We were on the ground floor & even though the carpark was always full so the apartments must be too we heard no noise at all from other guests.
