It will arrive about 2 minutes until Shirarahama Beach walk from Minshuku Katsuya. Minshuku Katsuya is no meal inn. Rates are one night one person 3500 yen.
Spent one night here before heading to Tanabe to begin the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage. Owner picked us up at the airport and then gave us a short orientation drive around the area including a scenic view. He pointed out the grocery store, bus station, beach area, etc. A minshuku is a homestay, essentially. Nice people, but heavy smokers. If you don't like cigarette smoke, this will be a problem. Once we were in our room (#3) we no longer smelled the smoke. The wifi works downstairs. There's a TV room and a dining room with fridge and water kettle for guest use. Japanese-style (squat) toilets on 2nd floor. Western toilet on first floor. Room was traditional tatami mat with futons. Very comfortable and quiet. I like the small koi pond in the courtyard with tanuki figure! Onsens (bath) are on the ground floor and segregated by sex. Tub is sized for one person and is hot mineral spring water. This isn't a hotel so some things that would be replaced or repaired quickly in a 5* hotel aren't addressed in a home. If you want a 5* hotel, there's a Marriott in town. If a traditional Japanese homestay is more your speed, you'll likely be comfortable here (smoke smell aside). Location is prime for visiting nearby beaches and also the Minakata Kumagusu Museum (highly recommended). Bus station about 5 minutes walk away.

Near from KUMANO-KODO and Kumano Hongu Taisha shrine registered as World Heritage, UNESCO. Surronded deep green forest and quiet environment.Guestrooms are all private with bath and restroom. Wi-fi and laundry, kitchen are available.
We stayed only for one night while walking the Kumano-Kodo trail and Blue Sky was a really good choice for us as base. One can start the circular walk around the area just next to the guest house and if you take the bus from the city center its only a couple of blocks away. Nice Japanese style room and good breakfast! I can really recoomend this guest house!

The hospitality I received was way above my expectations. I was alone and speak little Nihongo but they made my stay very comfortable. The food they prepared was also unique and delicious... I got served with 8-course dinner! They even offered me a free ride (that I declined) to the next stamp station since it was raining hard on the third day of my Kumano Kodo :) Even gave me a trekking pole to help me during the wet/slippery hike. 5-star experience, everything was perfect!

our second night's stay on the kumano kudo self guided hike. the address for this spot is listed as tanabe, although the settlement is chikatsuyu. as it had been a long 4 hour + hike we didn't explore the area. had read there was a public foot bath across the bridge before we arrived at our inn, we searched and found it and that was heaven. ordered 2 beer and sat in the sunshine and shade and soaked our hard working feet. pope we had met along the trail joined us and all was good. so we arrived in a good frame of mind at our small 8-10 room inn. greeted warmly. shoes off, slippers on. shown to our room. washrooms in the hallway, men's and women's. as we were wiped we unfolded our bedding and had a nap before we used the onsen, which is located in a separate building, steps away from the inn, along a river. peaceful setting. separate areas for each gender. enter the locker area. next into the onsen area. sit on the bench and wash. then into the wonderful hot water. of course i don't get all the steps correct, i'll learn yet! didn't feel like wearing our kimonos for dinner and we were the only ones who didn't. had a set time and there are 2 dining rooms. traditional low tables, 12 at our table. many varieties of dishes served for our meal. retired to our room after for a quiet evening. could hear the voices but all low and laughs, nice to hear. all peaceful. didn't have the best sleep as the futons a bit thin. good breakfast. all clean and spotless and well run. a warm goodbye from Ken.

Mitakisanso is in a fabulous location on the final stop on the Kumano Kodo. We got a basic, cozy room at the waterfall end of town - no view of the waterfalls but comfortable just the same. We'd planned for only one night & wished we'd had two. This is a beautiful area and really needs more than one afternoon to explore. The food at dinner and breakfast was delicious. Note: stairs to room and onsen are steep. Difficult to navigate after a full day of hiking/walking. Definitely challenging with our luggage.

My husband and I throughly enjoyed our one night stay. As others have mentioned, the owners are very welcoming and the dinner was wonderful (vegetarian in our case). Our room, including couch, was large and comfortable. We were able to wash some well-used hiking clothes at no extra charge. The breakfast was very good and more substantial western-style, which seemed appropriate given the long hike ahead. The lunch box was very good. In summary, this minshuku is perfectly set up/operated for hikers and the trail runs right by the front door.

A world that is: quiet, warm, natural, and unaltered. With nothing forced and nothing artificial. That’s MUI= ‘muishizen,’ or letting go and taking things as they come. A chance for your spirit to indulge in the season and nature. The wind that blows on the balconies of old houses. Goats dozing in the sun. But it isn’t just freedom. Here your time is rich. Our one night stay at Guesthouse Mui will stay with us forever. The hosts thought of everything to make our stay special, from our names as place-cards in Japanese characters to the freshly baked bread for breakfast and the fabulous lunch packed for our hiking the next day. The evening meal was by far the best we had on our travels in Japan. A very very special stay. ??
