My family of 4 (including 2 teenage boys) stayed 3 nights here and wished for longer. Our quad room w/private bathroom was very spacious and had every amenity (yukata, soap, shampoo, hair dryer, hot water, tea bags, biscuits) and more. We found our traditional futon beds to be plush and comfortable for a good night's sleep. The shower (excellent water pressure/temperature), toilet and sink were modern and well appointed. AC was great. We used the onsen (women's upstairs, men's downstairs) each night around 9pm, never saw anyone. The onsen is clean and serves its purpose, but be aware it's not a huge onsen you'd find in a larger spa. We were lucky to have dinner (2000 yen, I think) and breakfast (800 yen) at the inn's dining room. Both beautifully prepared and delicious, including Hida beef (amazing!) with miso at dinner. We found the innkeeper (and chef!) to be gracious and accommodating. She greeted us warmly when we arrived, knew exactly who we were, pointed out a storage cubby for shoes and slippers for indoors. The inn is a short walk from the bus/train station, across the street from a beautiful temple, and around the corner from a street full of restaurants and shops. I'd recommend Maruaki Hida Takayama, just a half block away, but go before 6pm to avoid a long wait. All in all, we loved our stay. My advice: reserve in advance at least 1 dinner and/or breakfast--you won't regret it. Also some of the rooms don't have private bathrooms, so just know what you're booking.

Such a wonderful and amazing stay at this well-maintained and clean Gassho-zukuri that I wouldn’t mind staying for a week! Total of 6 rooms, 3 were occupied on the night we were there. Our room had 2 areas - A small living area and another area for sleeping. Tea, hot water flask and vanilla cream biscuits were provided. The small living area had sliding doors, it faces a river and mountain. Such scenic view is a rare sight! Take note that there are rooms facing the river & mountain, as well as rooms in the front of the farmhouse, where they’re facing the garden. Both dinner (served @ 6pm) and breakfast (served at 7am) were kaiseiki style, the most memorable for my family were the hoba miso beef and grilled fish! The portions though small were more than sufficient to fill our tummies. The lady host who served us was very polite and patient. She spoke some English and understood most of our questions. Be punctual for your meals. Bathroom facilities are shared and there’s a timing set for bath. 4-9pm.

We were excited to see Shirakawa-go and spend the night in one of the thatched roof houses. The owner was kind and gave us a brief tour of the house with English. There are two private shower rooms with toilets and a separate bathroom with two toilets. The rooms are sparse with no furniture to sit on. Futons with blankets and flat pillows. The owner showed us how to turn on the heater and the heated floor mat. When dinner time arrived she tapped on our door and then disappeared. The other couples and my family looked at each other unsure if we were supposed to eat or not. The owners never came out. In the morning it was a repeat of the process. The meals were fine. I really wanted to like the owners for making their house available, but there was so little interaction with the guests that we ended up feeling more like intruders. If I return I would do Shirakawa--go as a day trip.

Wonderful House, warm welcoming by the owner. The room is wide and nice. Breakfast and Dinner meal set is wonderful and so delicious! Bathroom is traditional Ofuro so good and clean. Everything is nice here and remind me of my old days with my Grandparents.

I only spent one night at Furusato and was very pleasantly surprised. The lodging was kept warm and our rooms had individual heaters in them so it was very comfortable for sleeping at night despite the temperatures getting down quite low overnight. I had been a little bit concerned after saying some of the Gasso Zuckiro houses with their fire pits! However, the most memorable part of my stay however was the food Kimura is a wonderful chef and the Hida beef melted in the mouth and her pickles were the best that I’ve ever tried on any of my three holidays in Japan. The food was plentiful and all excellent. I would highly recommend staying here and I would definitely stay here again when I visit next time.
