Virginia can make American history come alive. Visit Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, tour Civil War battlefields, explore the living history museum at Williamsburg… the possibilities are endless (if the kids object, break up the historical sightseeing with a visit to Busch Gardens). Arlington, site of Arlington National Cemetery, is just across the Potomac River from all the major sites in D.C. In addition to beaches and historical attractions, Virginia has plenty to offer outdoor enthusiasts. Active families will love the Blue Ridge Highlands, where hiking, canoeing and tubing are just a few of the activities offered. Couples might enjoy a romantic mountain cabin in Virginia after a day of hiking in Shenandoah National Park.

My husband & I recently stayed at Big Meadows Lodge in Shenandoah National Park. The room (#4) was uninhabitable and violated several aspects of the Virginia Dept of Health's Chapter 431. Sanitary Regulations for Hotels. It was infested with rodents that skittered around the floor at night and the ceiling had a steady drip with mold/mildew where it had obviously been wet for a long time. The drip saturated my suitcase, which I'm glad I had unpacked. After complaining to management we were moved to a room in a different building which was fine. However, the maintenance man denied that the ceiling was dripping. My husband showed him the wet/moldy area and he simply replied that the people upstairs must have showered with the curtain open. I can assure you, that was not the case. The drip was steady over a 12 hour period and the growth on the wooden ceiling indicated a long-term problem. We had to keep the lights on all night to keep the rodents from running all over, and got no sleep as a result. As the room was uninhabitable, we did not expect to be charged for the first night's lodging, but the manager blew us off and has yet to make amends.

.My husband has stayed at this hotel many times for work in the past. Last night 9/18/2019 he checked in and the manager moved his room after check in. The manager actually walked him to the new room he was putting him in. About a hour later my husband is in the bathroom only to have that same manager walk into the room. No knock, or any warning. He asked him if his tv was working OK? Needless to say my husband was not very happy and recorded his interaction with said manager and assistant manager. He got a " I am sorry" and later they came to his room and gave him $10!!!!

I recently traveled for work to Langley AFB and was put up at the budget lodge in Newport News VA. On first glance it looked like your average old extended stay motel. After checking in. I got to the room and it was very clean and the bed was super comfortable. Housekeeping did a great job and the owners were very personable and accommodating. Almost had a B&B feeling. Would recommend if you are looking for a stop over stay for the night or a weekend visit.

The historic mansion now functions as a bed & breakfast with six bedrooms, each with a private bath. When entering the mansion, you are greeted by the impressive two story center hall and gallery along with the common areas on the main floor which are tastefully appointed with period antiques and include a large formal living room, a study, a solarium, a large formal dining room and billiard room.
This was by far one of the most tastefully decorated homes I've ever had the pleasure to visit! They make you feel right at home from the minute you enter. Everything was great from the room, to the food, to the atmosphere. Will definitely look them up if staying in the area again! If you love old homes and antiques this is a must! So glad this home was restored to its former grandeur!

This place is beautiful inside. Me and my husband stayed in The Virginia Suite. Everything in the inn was clean. The art and decor was so beautiful. The owner Ralph was very accommodating and so knowledgeable about places to go and eat. The breakfast at his diner (Damascus Diner) was amazing. Everything was hot and the wait staff were super nice. We ended up eating all our meals there. The food was terrific. Everything was fresh and hot. I would definitely recommend the Inn and the diner if you’re in the area. Thanks Ralph for 2 great places.

We've been visiting Shangrila since 2014 for both day rides and multi-night stays and have enjoyed every visit. Gary, Julie & the kids are gracious hosts, the wranglers are top-notch and the setting is incredible. The horses are exceptionally well cared for, very well trained and matched to each rider's experience and comfort level. I'm novice at best and my better half an experienced rider and we both enjoy every ride. There's miles and miles of trails through varying terrain: forest, pasture, gentle hills, creek crossings - whatever you want, you'll find it. If you're looking for an escape, this is THE place to do it.

Jill found a spot for me at the lodge at the last minute, as a tornado watch was descending on the region, offering me a place to stay off the trail for two nights. My room was beautifully appointed, and the kitchen, living area, and laundry room were fantastic. Convenient to the Food City supermarket and the AT. I was extremely lucky to enjoy my rest break here and to have such a very kind hostess.

Woods Hole is an 1880's chestnut log cabin with adjacent log bunkhouse in the Southwest corner of Virginia. Established in 1986, the hostel offers two private rooms, rustic bunkhouse, massage therapy, yoga, and family style meals. Woods Hole is located 1/2 mile off the Appalachian Trail and 45 minutes from I77 or I81. Find your way back to nature with Woods Hole Hostel & Mountain Retreat.
If you're not the outdoors type, this may not be the place for you. If you love the outdoors and rustic accommodations, you will LOVE Woods Hole. The main house has two upstairs bedrooms with a shared bath in the hallway. The buckhouse has single beds for about a dozen guests. A bathroom is in a detached building close by. There are also a couple good sized tent cabins. Woods Hole is mainly frequented by Appalachian Trail hikers. If you are a social person, you will love spending time with them and hearing their stories. The best part: the meals. You will eat well at Woods Hole!
