I like this hotel because their offer free transport between Kualanamu Medan Airport to hotel and back to Airport. Also they have a nice restaurant and bar that sell my lovely beer “Bintang”. Hope can be there next year!

We stayed for two nights with Kae and Efi’s family at their lovely homestay Kaesa. Their hospitality was incredible!! Delicious local breakfasts, super clean rooms, comfortable beds, hot water, super convenient location and incredible view of Berastagi. Kaes thorough information and tips for our stay made sure we saw lots of sights and enjoyed plenty of local experiences. Highly recommend staying here, thanks again!!

Bukit Lawang Hill Resort facilitated WiFi, hot shower, and evening briefing for the environment study case as part of our SUMECO. The restaurant provides fresh healthy food, so as vegetarian dishes - no palm oil or instant foods, with panoramic views covering all over the Bukit Lawang village area, Bohorok river, and Gunung Leuser National Park.
A good place to get away from people, or, on the contrary, to get to know them closer. Both introversial me and my socially active, nice and extraversial friend liked the place a lot. People living there are very nice. Accommodation neat and comfortable, and every sunrise and when the night comes you can see the whole small world beneath you and hear the music of Jungle. As Claude Levi-Strauss wrote: Music is a language by whose means messages are elaborated, that such messages can be understood by the many but sent out only by few, and that it alone among all the languages unites the contradictory character of being at once intelligible and untranslatable - these facts make the creator of music a being like the gods.

Junia Guesthouse is in the heart of Bukit Lawang village. Enjoy both scenic river and forest sounds as you relax at our guesthouse. Situated between Gunung Leuser National Park and the Bohorok River - you are in the perfect place to stay in Bukit Lawang for trekking, tubing, enjoying Indonesian culture and food. Whether backpacking through or on holiday, Junia's is a new, jungle-style guesthouse with comfortable and beautiful rooms. Junia Guesthouse is located on the eastern bank of the Bukit Lawang's Bohorok River, about 150 Meters from Indah's Bridge (Long Bridge). Then, it's just a five minute walk to the side of the Bohorok River to reach our place serving bloody cold beer!
Food is the most satisfying things in this place. The room was big enough for more extra bed, the staff is helpful, the minus things is the river in not right in front of the inn.. but a little bit further.

Riverside is a recently updated guesthouse that is owned and operated by an Indonesian-French couple, Fadill and Marie. This charming guesthouse is located directly overlooking the Bohorok river, in the heart of the jungle, and only minutes away from the Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. Together, Fadill and Marie welcome guests from all over the world, helping them organize their holidays in Bukit Lawang and North Sumatra, making sure their stay is a safe and memorable one.
Welcome to a very neat, comfortable and well appointed guesthouse. We stayed in the upper terrace room, which proved great for sitting out and enjoying the view across the river (complete with wild Orangutan on one occasion, so bring binoculars). Our hosts organised airport pickup and local activities without a hitch. Excellent food is available close by. We loved it and spent an extra night to make 6 nights in all.

The Jungle Inn is a boutique hotel situated in the pristine Sumatran rainforest opposite the entrance to the Mt Leuser National Park in Bukit Lawang. Our rooms are spacious with large balconies overlooking the Bahotok river and the rainforest. which compliment the natural beauty of the surrounding nature.
This hotel reminds me of Bali 30 years ago- charming in its rusticity, relatively undiscovered, quirky and isolated. The long-tail macaques put on a show daily on our balcony and we were thrilled to get “up close and personal” with multiple elephants that appeared to be well-treated at a park that was a tailbone-busting 4-wheel 2-hours-of bumps ride away. Had I ever really lived before I was joyfully head-bumped by a frisky juvenile elephant or looked eye to eye with a reclining matriarch while I bathed her face? Nope! Our room was simplistic but with a great river view and a carved 4-poster bed with the requisite netting. In need of some “spit and polish”, it was none the less private and had a unique outdoor bathroom with a truly one-of-a-kind rock and tile shower. Ever shower with 5 monkeys peering down on you from the roof? We did! The restaurant staff was very helpful and efficient in an island-y sort of fashion. Food choices were limited but quite good and we enjoyed chatting up the chef who had travelled/lived in the US. We were told ice cream “maybe tomorrow” each day to no avail. But what can you honestly expect from an isolated guesthouse with no road- only a rugged pathway for pedestrians and ubiquitous gnat-like scooters that was easily a 20-minute walk from the main drag? And there-in lies the charm! Keep expectations real- this is not a place for US hotel-chain fans or lovers of luxury. We were the only Americans in town it seemed and felt we had discovered a funky paradise.

Located on white sandy beach and the tropical rain forest in a pristine environment, we minimize the side effect of our existence by reuse and recycle material for buildings and furniture, also minimize use of cement. The jungle behind the bungalow are home of many wildlife, such: Hornbill, Sea Herron, Gibbon, Simpai etc. On the crystal clear sea at the front, home of turtle, colorful fish and coral reef.
This place must be heaven on earth. A very quiet place far away from civilization. Beautiful surrounding, simple but great accomodation built from recycled material. The owner is a very nice and helpful guy. Hope we can come back one day!

A very nice, clean and quiet guest house directly at the Maninjau lake. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful in any aspect. The self-description of the Beach Guest House is pure understatement. I loved staying there, taking bathes in the lake every day and eating the excellent homemade food, enjoying the nature and friendly company. I definitely recommend to stay with Jack and his family!!!

Putts and his family were excellent hosts and I really enjoyed his trekking tour of the Sumatran jungle. He is very thoughtful of the animals and, unlike many other tour guides, he does not feed the animals or try to tame them so tourists can get their selfies. I chose him because I had read he was conscientious, and I was right! He was very informative, educational, and protective of the animals and their habitat. Also, his cook prepared some of the best food I had in Sumatra - his coconut chicken was amazing! A plead to other tourists, please please please, do NOT feed the animals in the jungle - it’s very harmful to them. Also please keep a respectful distance, it’s dangerous to desensitize animals to human presence and also creates unnecessary stress. No selfish selfies! :) they have enough working against them with habitat loss. Thank you! Enjoy tour stay with Putra - ask him to share his riddles with you!! He’s got lots of good puzzles :)
