Well worth the effort!

We had a degree of difficulty booking our table, both on the phone and via the website, so decided to call in ,in person and book a table for the following day? There was no problem with a positive response from the member of staff who took our booking and we duly turned up the following evening to a very warm welcome and no queuing or being kept waiting? We did explain whilst placing our order about the difficulties that we had in trying to book a table and our comments, I think were taken onboard? I hope so? This restaurant deserves all the accolades that our family and friends have given it and whilst we had a small problem with our order, it was dealt with totally professionally and actually enhanced our experience of the meal! Totally outstanding in the quality of the food and the customer service experienced! Looking forward to booking another outstanding meal!

Came here for a night after some drinks and the place was just not worth the money. Room wasn’t nice at all. There was no water in the kettle for drinks either. The floor had a gap that they had just filled in with a bit of carpet.

Came in for a drink with 2 Jack Russell Terriers. Bar staff made us feel very welcome. Pointed out an available table into the rear of the pub or a table in the bay window with the locals . Sat in the cosy bay. Chatted to really friendly and humorous locals who made us and our dogs feel really welcome. Great start to our visit. Thank you ?

Return visit and just as good as the first. Stunning lodges in a stunning location. Plenty of fish were caught, time spent walking, looking at the lambs, relaxing in the hot tub and sauna and just chilling. Worked out perfect to book two lodges for the family, to have our own space and then get together for meals and drinks and pool matches! Ages ranged from 14 to 80 with something for everybody. Many thanks also to Kelly for giving me Louise's contact details for the massages and facials, this just added to the whole relaxing spa feeling of the lodges and Louise was so lovely. As Arnie says - we will be back!

Rob and Clare were fantastic for the duration of our trip. We stayed in the bunkhouse and made good use of the five a side pitch too. The bunkhouse had everything we needed and was the perfect place to get away from the city and technology for a few days. I don’t think I’ve ever been somewhere with no phone signal for miles (don’t worry there’s WiFi) and such dark skies where you can see so many stars - it was incredible. I would also quite like one of Rob’s dogs because they were gorgeous and so we’ll behaved.

Not value for money

Reviewed By 846KevinS

We are fairly regular visitors to this area and have used many different types of accommodation. This time we thought we’d try the pods. We stayed here in the Bracken pod. The quality of the fixtures and fittings is high, Dualit toaster etc. Our problems may in part be due to the fact that were not greeted on arrival and shown the ropes. The lady who runs the place was dealing with lambing. We did get to say hello / goodbye as we were leaving after 3 days. The main problem is water and the shower room. We couldn’t get any hot water in the sink or in the toilet, even though we ran the tap very slowly. The shower was hot but very low pressure. The shower and the toilet are separated by a glass screen. Once somebody has had a shower the toilet is wet and so is the floor. Anybody who then goes to the toilet ends up with wet shoes which then results in the main room getting a wet floor. This is design fault rather than anything to do with the owners but it is still poor. The pods are not cheap at £100 per night, at that price I don’t think they are value for money. There was a ‘welcome pack’ which contained 4 sachets each of coffee, sugar, tea and milk, plus a bottle of wine. We clearly don’t share the views of the other people who reviewed the pods. I do agree with the other reviewers, however, that Northumberland is a beautiful part of England.

Stay spoiled by noise at night.

Reviewed By richardgG909VZ

First the positives: The room although small was clean and well appointed. The food was good and the servers were efficient and friendly. However, the level of noise coming from the bar made it impossible to get to sleep at a reasonable hour, the sound of the music was overpowering. On the second night of our stay I went down to the bar at 11.30 pm to ask for the music to be turned down, but was told by the management that they would not do anything as 'people had put money in the jukebox'. I was also told that as the pub had a licence until 1.00 am that the music could go on until then. The noise level was unacceptable in other rooms besides hours with another guest resorting to using earplugs in order to get to sleep.

Hill House East

Come and be spoilt at our unique Country Bed and Breakfast, which is set in an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' in Upper Weardale. Our aim is for you to enjoy staying in this venerable old stone house as much as we do; to feel 'at home' rather than 'in accommodation'. We pride ourselves on the quality of our food - we make our own bread, do lots of home baking and use eggs from our own hens. Guests are greeted on arrival with a tea/coffee tray and homemade cake or scones in the guest sitting room and, although there are tea/coffee making facilities in the bedrooms, we will happily serve tea and coffee at any time during the day at no extra cost. As we only accommodate a maximum of four guests the house is a tranquil haven if you just want to sit by the log stove and read or relax. Or you can go out and about in our beautiful countryside, which is perfect for walking and cycling. In summer, you can sit in the garden or comfortable summer house and watch the sun set behind the hills - feel free to bring your own wine!Guests have their own entrance and, when we have guests, we withdraw to our own quarters separate to the rest of the house. Effectively Hill House East is yours during your stay. We kindly request that guests do not smoke in the house and we regret we cannot accommodate very young children. Dogs are welcome if they sleep in your car and we have a good 'exercise field'. We Welcome Wainwright Walkers! We are very excited by this new long distance walk which passes literally by Hill House East and has one of its overnight 'stops' in Westgate. We are also right on a new alternate 'Coast to Coast' cycle route and we have safe, lockable cycle storage. At Hill House East a warm welcome awaits.
