Hotel Campestre En San Agustin, frente A La Finca El Maco
Having traveled extensively, I’ve developed a basic + fundamental list of ‘must haves’ - regardless of where I am in the world. Top of my list - a good night’s sleep. This was not to happen during our first night at Akawanka. Instead, the smoke alarm went off in the middle of the night. To the hotel’s credit, they replaced the battery the next morning — after we informed them of the problem — but they should have been checking the alarms to make sure they were working properly. Also - we couldn’t call them to fix the problem ( I can’t remember if the phone didn’t work or we had no phone.) Even if we could have called much of the time there was no one at the front desk. We also felt that as solo travelers ( not part of the 2 large tour groups that were staying there when we were) we were overlooked.

I came to the Campestre El Triunfo with my girlfriend, not sure what to expect. It was late at night, and we had driven past the massive sign on the right side of the road, only to find it a little bit later as we drove back that way. We drove down the 300m laneway and were greeted by someone showing us where to park our car. We went to our condo/apartment, and were immediately surprised how clean and well appointed this room was, with lots of space, and very clean bathrooms. We dropped our bags there and went to the open air kitchen which had a few others there. we were told that we could order what we wanted, and while we waited, you could smell coffee being roasted in the air, some thirty feet away. woke in the morning early, and walked out the side balcony door and had a tremendous view of the Magdalena river valley. Stunning!

Lovely place with really genuinely friendly family. You don't feel like a guest in this place but become a family friend. The rooms are rustic but comfortable, the breakfast is delicious and the best included breakfast we've had on this trip. The place is about a 10 minute walk from the main town but I liked that as you're in a quiet, country environment where horses with carts pass you frequently. I loved it, go and spend time with a lovely Colombian family.

The owner of the hostel was super friendly. He recommended us to do the guided tour through the tatacoa dessert the very next morning. We startet at 9am and it was 120000 per person, but it was worth every single peso! The tour guide was super cool and we had a lot of fun. We did a tour through two different areas of the dessert, had lunch at a locals‘ place, went to a swimming pool to cool down and ended the day with star gazing. It was absolutely amazing. Had a great time, met lovely people and enjoyed our stay. Btw breakfast is included and was pretty good. Only thing: it is super hot, but whar might cool you down a bit during the night is a ventilator.

Finca Ecologica El Maco is a unique combination of farm and hotel, located in San Agustin Colombia (1700 m a.s.). San Agustin is famous for it's archaeological park, one of the most important archaeological sites of the continent. The region was inhabited by a mysterious civilisation which left behind several hundred freestanding monumental statues carved in stone, as well as a number of tombs. This and the beauty of the unspoiled vegetation, caused by the mild subtropical mountain climat, attracts travellers from all over the world. Be it riding horses, trekking, river-rafting or archaeology, San Agustin is one of Colombia's best adventure destinations.
We planned to stay for 2 nights and ended up staying 4. This place is full of warmth and hospitality. The designs of the cabins are unique and interesting. Hot showers and comfy beds! And the restaurant offers fantastic food: pizza, pasta and Swiss Röstli - thanks to a Swiss owner, who understands about hospitality, food and wellness! The staff was excellent and everyone really seemed to enjoy work at El Maco, they were like one big family, which makes for a great atmosphere. They also set us up for local tours, guides and activities and we did not have a care in the world and could just enjoy the beautiful ride! We will be back!
