Normally, one wouldn’t equate "relaxing spa vacation" with "hanging out near an active volcano," but if you’re up for something more exotic than facials and massages, Banos might be the perfect place for you. The thermal mineral pools here are heated by the volcano, and while there are several, offering different amenities, the easiest one to visit is Las Piscinas de la Virgen. Banos also has plenty of outdoor activities, like rafting and biking on scenic paths.

What a nice place, far above my expectations at this price! It's not in the middle of the downtown area, so it's peaceful and quiet yet is only a short 10-15 stroll to get to the center of the restaurants and many excursion companies. The full breakfast was good and I loved the coffee. A kitchen was available as well as a few item for sale such as soda, water and beer. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was immaculate, comfortable and had cable TV. The internet ,however, was slow. It had great, secure parking as advertised. When I go back to Baños, I'll certainly stay there again.

We stayed here for one week and totally fell in love with this family. The business is very well run, the family works together beautifully to provide a kind, healthy and very clean atmosphere. (This place is IMMACULATE!) Breakfast was amazing: each day a different, delicious, healthy and sustaining amount of food with incredible juice and coffee. The other meals we ate were tasty, nutritious and colorful to the max. This was so important to us as we hiked around a good portion of Banos de Agua Santa and we certainly needed the energy, protein and vitamins. Some other notes: This Hostal gives you the impression of walking into a classical Mexican movie at first glance, but the next morning you wake up and find that it is indeed true...but it is the 22nd century and the staff is prepared for anything...internet, pandemic safety and just about anything else you need! The family is kind, generous and loving. We never heard a cross word amongst the staff while we visited. La Madre is the chef, and cooks WELL. She beautiful, calm, and a craftswoman. The sons are waiters par excellence and one in particular loves to speak English! :) Definitely go here if you are in the area for a meal or to spend the night. Keep in mind that the Hostal is near a recreation park (we always felt safe here) and things can be a bit noisy on the weekends. Just pack earplugs and all should go well. Five stars plus!! ~Marisa Hamilton

My boyfriend and I stayed 2 nights at Hacienda Guamag and the staff their catered to our every need. The Hacienda itself is in a beautiful secluded setting across a gorge (you take a stunning 2-3 minute cable car to get there) - it's in a protected area full of natural beauty so you can walk around the gardens there or simply look at the gorge from the stunning view from your bedroom. As far as I know, I think they only have 3 rooms there and we were the only ones staying and the staff were fantastic - served great breakfast and dinner at their restaurant and we could text the owner or flag down one of the staff whenever we needed anything. They couldn't have been lovelier or more helpful. Thanks so much for a great stay - would recommend! One of our favorite places we stayed on a 2 week trip through Ecuador

I was on vacation from volunteering in La Paz, Bolivia and wanted to see some of South America before returning to Canada. I decided to book with Ecuador Hop to see most of Ecuador since it's a relatively small country. I spent a few days in Baños and they booked me into this hotel. I had a private room with a massive en-suite bathroom. My room also included a TV, Queen bed, one end table with a lamp. Instead of a closet, there were hooks on the wall for clothes and under the TV, there was an open concept closet/luggage rack. The lobby looked warm and cozy and reminded me of an abuela's living room. The bathroom looked like it was partially upgraded. The shower could've been upgraded to a glass-enclosed shower, but other than that, it had plenty of hot water. What more could you ask for? Outside of my room there was a balcony which was shared with the room next to me. Didn't matter to me as I only used it to dry my towel. My room was cleaned everyday, which was nice to come home to after spending a long, hard day at the spa or any of the hot springs. My hotel was affiliated with Huellas Natural Spa, and they were able to book my spa services for me. There is a restaurant on-site and breakfast was included in my room rate. The restaurant is also open for dinner, which was not included in my room rate. Another nice thing about this hotel is the automatic late check-out at 12:30 p.m. If you're going to stay in Baños, stay at Hotel La Chimenea. You'll enjoy it.

Location is good but the bathroom was dirty... Price is above the overall price... They charged USD 12 per person... Other hostels would charge around USD 7-8... Hostel close at 2 o'clock in the morning...

This is a wood hostel built by myself, it has many rooms with private, shared bathroom and kitchen. we are located 15 minutes away of the center of Banos, out of the noise, but surronded by nature. it's a really quiet place where you can relax. We hire bikes, and we also have a travel agency, so feel free to ask for any tour, we will help you.
was drawn in the by the really cheap price. had a shared kitchen which was nice. about a 20 min walk from downtown, which is ok, but meant we ended up taking taxis back and forth more than i would have wanted (just far enough to be annoying to always make the walk). walls are just boards however, so not so sound proof. that said, guests were pretty respectful while we were there, not a party hostel per se, but nice common areas to make friends if you want. nice green feeling and views of the surrounding hills.
