From the moment I contacted Wakka, they were attentive and knowledgeable. We cycled the Shimanami Kaido as a group of 4 and rented the a 4 person dorm for one night. It was spacious and clean. The property is beautiful and modern, with a cafe/community space that looks onto the sea. The staff were the best part of Wakka. I was in contact with them before and during the cycle, they had recommendations for best bus routes to start on the Imabari side and even offered to arrange a taxi. I got a flat tyre on my rental bicycle and Wakka drove to meet me within minutes with a pump after contacting them to get me back on my way. I can’t recommend this place enough.

Dougoya is only Guest house with hot spring in Dogo area. Our building has built about 80 years ago, and it's so beautiful CLASSIC ryokan even NOW.You will love our Japanese atmosohere and historic building. We waill wait for you with our hospitality!
The staff in the hotel are friendly and helpful. The Ryokan is small. The rooms are spacious traditional Japanese rooms. Building has a lot of charm but the surroundings do not. There was currently demolition work around the hotel so it was not suitable to stay in between 8 and 6 any time, until sometime in May 2017. Breakfast is basic, serve and clear up yourself. Used public Onsen but there are facilities in house. Living room with TV if you want it.

I have been a frequent user of hostels in Japan and this is undeniably the WORST hostel I have ever stayed in my 10+ years experience of travelling in Japan. Normally, I have no qualms in staying in any hostel in Japan because no matter the price it would be hygenic. But this place!! It's unbelievable by Japanese standard and for its price. It costs me about 6000 yen per night while I usually can stay in a FAR BETTER place for half this price in Japan. The place is the most shamelessly rundown establishment I have ever come across in Japan. As soon as you step in, you can smell stuffy homes and moulds, reminding you of a council house of homeless people in 1950s England or worse. I bet this is a relic from the world war. They say it is 100+ year old but it is the worst kept old houses I have ever experienced in Japan. The common kitchen stinks as if some gutter rats have died. Their fridge is full of old and expired stuff. This is like nightmare incarnate. The bathroom is beyond salvation. It is very disgusting almost as if built in the 80s and left like that for a few decades. It was so disgusting but thank god it is in an onsen town so I can go and shower (very expensively) outside at other onsens and avoid the horror of their bathroom, The staff was nice but no different from any other hostels in Japan. Actually, it sort of borders on rudeness if I take into account the instance where I try to ask the staff if I can turn on the air conditioner in Japanese (I'm a proficient Japanese speaker) and he rudely spoke back in English assuming that I am Chinese or something. To make things worse, I was told that air conditioner can be used only after 7pm. If I want to use it before that , I have to pay 500 yen!!! And in the sweltering and humid hot of Japan August, this is not a joke. The only redeeming quality about this place is its location, being 2 minutes from the Dogo Onsen tram stop. Anyway, just DON'T stay here.

It is a resort hotel newly born in "Nakajima". "THE BONDS" means "edge" "bond". We are hoping to create a "place" connecting the faces born in the land named Nakajima to the people who we will meet. The origin of Bonds is guesthouse. In a typical guest house, there are no hospitality services, people who are familiar with the guest house are the main, and the first one is difficult to stay at many facilities. While incorporating the goodness of the guest house where it is not uncommon for customers to interact with each other, delicious rice such as an inn or hotel will come out, and I would like to aim for the style of a new accommodation where private and clean rooms are secured properly It is. The entire building is smoke-free.
We had the room with a balcony facing the sea. Very nice, beautiful view. Plusses: + friendly hosts pick you up at the ferry and take you back there + dinner is not cheap but very nice - red snapper eaten three different ways and with lots of small side dishes + great beach with water that still comfortably warm for swimming at the end of October + bike rental reasonable and in good shape Minuses: - the island does not offer much except for a nice setting for all the triatholon sports, no other restaurants, shops, attractions - when we were there, there was quite a bit of trash & junk in the yard and in the immediate area on the promenade - that doesn't go with the ohterwise romantic ambiance and would have been not much of a thing for the hosts to take care of General tip: - avoid the high speed ferry, it's not that much faster, much uglier and twice as expensive - take note of ferry times, they are very limited during the non-rush hours

Welcome to Cinnamon guest house dogo - a brand new, cozy, warm atmosphere and stylish hostel accommodation which is most closely located hostel to main area in Dogo. Located just 2min walking distance from Dogo onsen hot spring. We are the only hostel which has a nice bar in Dogo. We ensure your stay comfortable, enjoyable and memorable. Just call on our english speaking staff at reception.
Wow did we luck out. My daughters and I discovered Cinnamon House by chance and will never stay anywhere else in Matsuyama. Pristine, cool, laid back. Shimpei-san is cool with great English. He actually drove my car up the hill to the free parking so I would know how to find it later. This place is a gem, just steps from Dogo Onsen. Our 3-person traditional Japanese room was immaculate. Air-conditioned. The only drawback is that it's not wheelchair accessible. Guitar on site, kitchen / fridge / free coffee (make your own), tea, and biscuits. Free little shampoos and conditioners to bring to the onsen. In and out privileges all nite. Get here!

We stayed here for a night because the other hotels available were quite expansive (it was close to a holiday). We didn't really have a choice. Well, I wish we had. We were in a tiny, not confortable private room. You have to move the furnitures to prepare your futon. The whole place has a bad isolation, so it is pretty noisy, and you have ray of lights coming from everywere at night. Not the best way to rest right ? The bathrooms are old and you don't event have a toothbrush provided. The staff doesn't speak english but is willing to put some efforts to understand what you need : we managed to send our luggages to our next place via Takkybin. If you can afford it, go anywhere else. The money saved here isn't worth it.

Hostel/backpacker Accommodation
There aren't that many choices when you travel to Omi-shima. Our family ended up picking this not-too-pricey one. Before we arrived, we prepared ourselves mentally for a youth-hostel-like sleeping bed. Sharing toilets and bathrooms is fine with us. That's it. You simply have to remember bringing your hair conditioner, shampoo and soap. And towel, please. The only mistake is that we forgot to bring our earplugs, and my daughter woke up at least five times in the middle of the night (when the traffic is easily audible). Kabooooom!

JPY4,000 per person per night without meal. JPY30,000 per night for entire house rental (price is flexible) The Shiomi House is a really old style house in Japan. Room separations are "Fusuma", no bed but "Futon". "Goemon bath", traditional Japanese bath and well with hand-pump are rare even in Japan.
Only 5 reviews so far, all give a 5 star rating and have special titles. How to give this place what it deserves ? We too stayed only for one night as we followed a strict schedule and I too regret this. There is nothing grand or even - what ? One can read the story of the house on the website, an interesting story of an emigrant doctor who helped his family and many fellow emigrants, and the family reconnecting with their roots. That is maybe what I felt : it is an old home of a genuine kind person, simple but real. Words as poetry and fragility come to my mind, very personal indeed. And most respectfully and artfully restored. So if you are looking for a convenient stop on your Shimanami biking trip : this is not the place to come : it does indeed take you to the orange route, not the most scenic one, with lots of climbing. And if coming from Onomichi you do not even get half way, the following day you have a very long and difficult trip, or you can skip a part by taking a ferry. But if you are not in a hurry, it is a very special find. Only 3 of our party biked here, the other 2 came by bus and ferry. So both are possible. And this is the perfect place to rest, to reconnect, to be. The youngest one of our party did appreciate it she was allowed to play on the piano, we all were so happy. Thank you for the hospitality. And maybe, wo knows, I will manage to come back. For more than one night, rest assured !
