Zao Center Plaza is centrally located with a short walk from the Zao Onsen bus station. On exiting the station, turn right and walk along the main road for about 10 minutes and you will reach the hotel. The hotel is old and dated, but rooms are big with plenty of space for luggages and ski accessories. We were given a room on the third floor in an annex building connected by a walkway to the main building where the reception, breakfast room and onsens are located. Our room only has a toilet with a wash basin but as is in most cases, bathing facilities are really not needed as showering at the onsen is pretty much the norm. The hotel adopt a strictly 3pm check-in policy but luggages can be self stored in a common room near the reception should you be early. None of the staff speak any English so communication mostly will have to be a mixture of sign languages and reliance on a translation app. Reception is not visible from the front as it is on the first floor while on the ground floor, you will find a souvenir cum winter accessories shop and a yakitori outlet next to it. Opposite the hotel and across the road is a Lawson convenience store and a shop away, a ski rental manage by a friendly local that charges very competitive rates. There are also a few eateries along the same strip with a small ramen shop being one of our favourites. Wi-Fi was efficient and reliable. The hotel was not at full occupancy and as we were there on weekdays, we did not encounter much noise disturbance and slept well. Breakfast was a simple mixture of japanese and western offerings though not much in variety, but ample and sufficient to keep us going for a day on the mountains. The hotel is a ski-in ski-out with the Nakamori course next to it, while the Sanroku Ropeway that lead to the Jizosancho station at the top for the Snow Monsters area via the Juhyokogen station at mid-level is about a 10 minutes walk away. Both the indoor and especially the outdoor onsen are great for a soak and relaxation after a day's exertions on the mountains. A minor problem we had being in the annex building, it can get pretty cold and chilly especially in the morning when we have to make our way across the walkway to the main building for breakfast or to use the onsens. Zao Center Plaza is an ideal choice to set up base for its location and easy access to both the Nakamori run and Sanroku Ropeway, nearby food and groceries options and reasonably priced accommodation. Would look to stay again if we are back in Zao Onsen.

Stayed for just one night at the Super Hotel. The hotel chose itself as when looking for a room in Yamagata there was very little availability. The room was small and simple, but clean and comfortable. Apart from the room the only other facility that I used at the SH was the breakfast offer. This was a small and very crowded area first thing in the morning. The buffet was small but offered a nice variety. Utilised the late check out offer, which was very convenient as the purpose of my stay was a local half marathon.

I spent 24 days traveling around japan with a friend, visiting a new city every 2 days. Before we hit Tokyo and prepared to fly home, we made a last minute decision to visit Yamagata and stay here. The entire trip was great, but as the title says, just staying here was my best memory about it. I don't have any descriptions to accurately portray the experience, just a warm thanks to the owner and other guest.

I like the Richmond Hotel Yamagata for the location. It is just behind the station, the quieter side. There is a convenience store and a grocery store nearby, plus a concert hall and a building which houses a cinema and several restaurants. Inside the hotel, I made use of the drinks lounge. Soft drinks and coffees and teas are available to be taken to our rooms or they can be drunk in the lounge. It is a nice place to sit and read a book or do a bit of work. My room was lovely and quiet, with a view of the concert hall's parking lot! It had everything I needed in it. I opted for the Eco Room cleaning and was happy to have an option like that. I often stay at the Richmond in Yamagata and always enjoy myself.

We stayed for 2 nites in this hotel. The front desk was very friendly, helpful and spoke in good English. It is quite a big hotel with very nice outdoor onsen. Our room is traditional type and it is clean and tidy. The dinner is fresh and delicious and served by very friendly staff in a dining hall. The hotel is ski-in and ski-out and so very convenient for us. The ski gear rented here however is a bit old. We can get refund for ski-card at front desk which is so helpful. During this high peak season, there was such a long queue to take the cable car to the top of the mountain to see the zao ice monsters. Unfortunately the weather is very cloudy and windy and monster are "babies" only due to the unusual warm climate. Overall it is a nice onsen hotel with excellent service and convenient for ski-in and ski-out.

We weren't sure what to expect travelling from our home in Niigata to Yamagata at New Year as there are few people from abroad fortunate to be in Japan right now but we received the warmest welcome. We were immediately shown where to park our car, given all the information we required in English and had a pleasant room on the 6th floor. The outstanding part of our stay was the restaurant well set out, a full range of fabulous food and drink on offer, the set menu was a treat. The star of the show for me were the sweet treats (see photo) There was a lot of snowfall during our stay so we were grateful for the restaurant and friendly service at the end of each day. The staff work long hours but were always attentive and cheerful. The hotel is well placed for visiting Yamagata, we enjoyed walking around in the snow! This hotel comes thoroughly recommended. Thank you ?

Stayed there for only one night in non smoking Twin Room, but i can say the hotel was a good deal for its price, location and service. The location is really close from Yamagata Station, make it a good base to explore the city. Only few steps away from the hotel, there are escalator and elevator to walkway toward the station. Really helpful since i went with a toddler on a pram. Kajo Park where i caught the cherry blossom was still within walking distance as well. I booked the room through Rakuten, and check in was prompt. Not to forget warm hospitality from the receptionist (i forgot the name, probably Mr Sato). The room and each of the twin bed were quite spacious, can slept comfortably along with my toddler. Breakfast was complimentary, with decent selection of both japanese and western menu, which a steal for the price. If it's not filling enough, convenience store is just next door. In conclusion, this hotel is really recommended.

Yamagata Nanokamachi Washington Hotel is located in Nanokamachi, the main shopping area of Yamagata City. With the city office and business district nearby, the hotel is a perfect choice for those traveling on business. Likewise, it provides an excellent location for those traveling for pleasure.
The location could not be found easily from the nearest bus stop Nanokamachi so I asked a pedestrian to find it. If I knew in advance the hotel has the convenience store Lawson on th ground floor, It should have helped me. It has a common bath inside called Meguminoyu and the water temperature is 42 degreeC which is just right i.e. not too hot nor lukewarm. Breakfast includes Local dishes which would be a good memory. 100yen/ride bus takes you to almost every places within the city center and the bus stop is near the hotel.
