The actual entrance to the lobby of this hotel is a little hard to find as you need to take the elevator up a couple of floors from the street entrance, although there were no signs indicating this. Other than that, the hotel is centrally located making it ideal for exploring the historic parts of this city. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and quiet, while the complimentary continental breakfast was quite good. In addition, the front desk staff were very helpful and at least some of them spoke English. We would definitely choose to stay here again if we are back in Xalapa.

The hotel has comfortable, spacious and clean rooms. The personnel keeps good attention when you need it. There is a nice swimming pool, but I never used it. The hotel has a parking lot of its own, no extra fee for usage. The restaurant is good, but again I was there just for breakfast, which is a nice and wide buffet of Mexican food.

The hotel is clean, the staff is nice and accessible, they have a restaurant and a place to “chill” in the lobby. The room was really clean and they provided bottles of water. In my experience the bed linens smelled like humidity( but I think it was just in my room). The water from the shower was either extremely hot or cold, I found it difficult to get a warm spot because the water temperature fluctuated with time. Breakfast and dinner were good( they have a restaurant). The phone from the room didn’t make calls to the lobby.

We spent a while at this hotel and really enjoyed our stay. They have beautiful spacious rooms, and great service. Location is not great if you plan on walking but if you're driving it's close to the center and other great areas. The terrace has a beautiful view of the city also. My son loved finding towel animals on the beds. We would stay here again.

Unfortunately my stay here was not so good. The hotel itself is a nice building and indeed the breakfast is very nice and good. However, the breakfast voucher you get with your booking does not give you access to the buffet with all the good stuff. At least this is what I understood with my limited Spanish since nobody, yes, nobody speaks English in this hotel. On top of that I relocated rooms since the first one was in the basement (room 103) and was quite noisy so I was hoping that it would be better in the second room (307). Unfortunately, it wasn't. Employees of the hotel worked till late in the night and didn't bother being quiet for the guests. They even turn on some music at 1:30AM. Since the room is attached to the souterrain of the restaurant the light outside the hallway is always on and the curtains do not cover the light, so it will never be dark in your room. In the morning there are families with kids that run around the restaurant screaming. On top of all of this even washing clothes is too much effort. When I turned in my clothes on Thursday I heard on Saturday they weren't washed and weren't going to be washed because there was no laundry on Saturday... So, I bet there are many better places for your money in Xalapa, I would definitely not recommend this one

The experience of staying at a colonial mansion. Meson del Alferez Xalapa is a charming colonial style hotel with cozy rooms, each with its unique decor. Centrally located in downtown Xalapa, the hotel is home to the most famous breakfast in town at La Candela restaurant.
One-way streets and a tunnel sent us around the parklike zócalo three times before we found our hotel, Méson del Alférez Xalapa, a 16-room inn with a very discrete sign. The hotel was everything I had hoped in my colonial fantasies. Despite the busy street running in front, and the one alongside descending steeply enough to be worthy of San Francisco, the interior was tranquil, all white stucco walls, red tile floors and tall wooden doors leading into our spotless room with two comfortable double beds and such mod-cons as a flat-screen TV, a coffeemaker and a hairdryer. Our companion reported that his room, a single in a separate building, was also comfortable. Breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, Hosteria La Candela, was delicious. My husband ordered the yoghurt with fresh fruit, granola, juice and coffee, one of the two selections included with our room. (The other was continental, with a croissant replacing the yoghurt and granola.) I splurged on the huevos albañil, eggs scrambled with green sauce and a side of mashed black beans. The sauce reminded me of my own using tomatillos, cilantro and jalapeño. As the name suggests, jalapeño peppers are native to Xalapa.

Merging history, design, landscapes, details, food and service. Here, your experience is exceeded in every way: The Art of staying (El Arte de hospedarse).
It is a 60’s/70’s art decor hotel which would’ve been great during its time, however it is now tired and worn and the decor is still from that time. We had a terraced room overlooking the pool on the bottom floor and it was filthy. Lady tried to tell me it was the wind. The inside and outside of the fridge was dirty, I wiped the inside with a tissue and it came back black. I asked the receptionist to clean the room again and they just came along and wiped it with a dry cloth. I took the trays out of the fridge and washed them in the sink. The dresser top I wiped down, tissue was brown with dirt. The duvet covers were stained. Mould on the curtains. The plastic coffee maker had solid dirt on the button which I wiped. The safe didn’t work (had no batteries), I touched the tiles in the bathroom and it was dusty. Room smelled musty. Air con packed up when we were there aswell. External areas didn’t look like it had been swept in months. Pool was murky and dirty, this is a health hazard. The area around the pool wasn’t very pleasant. Am not sure how this hotel has got good ratings in the past. It has the potential to be good if more care and attention was taken with cleaning and make sure things in the room worked.
