Pazo da Trave

Welcome to the Pazo da Trave, a palace built by the ancient Galician nobility more than five hundred years ago. The palace is set in an exceptional spot of the coast of Lugo, an area known locally as the Marina de Lugo, three kilometres away from the estuary of Viveiro tidal inlet, between beaches and mountains, in an enchanted valley surrounded by calmness, silence and nature. The palace has 18 rooms (three suites, one of the latter is truly outstanding), and spacious common areas. Its large garden is populated with traditional trees and the autochthonous vegetation of Galicia, which sway together around a well, a typical Galician granary (locally referred to as horreo), a palm tree, a pigeon-house and a chapel, all surrounded by a small forest which is also part of the palace's grounds. Also we offer our hotel premises: a dining room and a glass enclosed arbour, a sauna, a gym, a swimming pool, a lounge/reading room with a fireplace, conference rooms, balconies and galleries as well as several tables and benches scattered among the perennial green vegetation. An ideal setting for spending a few days alone or with your partner, relatives, a group of friends, holding meetings, incentive events, parties and celebrations.

Almost Perfect Country Inn

Reviewed By ndser

We stayed at the Pazo da Trave near Viveiro for 1-night in early June (€93/night). The pazo is beautiful, its 15th century stone buildings set amid lawns beautifully landscaped with rock walls & gardens scattered with interesting sculptures – it even had an old chapel. Our 2nd floor room was spacious, with white walls, dark wood floors & ceiling beams and a shuttered double window opening through meter-thick walls onto the lawn. It was furnished with a king bed & side tables, an old wood armoire, table and huge wooden chair, and a small TV (no safe or mini-refrigerator). The bathroom had a single sink and a reasonable sized bath/shower. The large sitting area on our floor had couches, bookcases, seats, fireplace, large TV – we were the only guests on the floor, so it became our sitting room. All of the common areas were richly decorated with art – a previous owner was a ceramics artist, & the daughter of the current own is a painter. There was a small pool table in the former stable, and a small kidney-shaped pool that was covered, but open at each end so it didn't have the indoor pool stuffiness. We had dinner at the inn – the only other option was to drive into Viveiro – a set menu with very good regional dishes at a reasonable price. Breakfast was also good, with cold cuts, locally sourced baked items, jams made from the many trees on the property, plenty of fruit, coffee & orange juice – no hot food items though. The manager was very personable – one of the nicest we have met in our travels. She toured us through the property, explaining its history, and was very helpful with suggestions for our travel the next day. Overall, the Pazo da Trave has it all – a tremendously atmospheric & historic inn with comfortable rooms, large and comfortable grounds, good food, great staff, and absolute peace & tranquility – all at a reasonable price. If you are in the area, you are not likely to find a better place to stay.

This hotel is an absolute delight!

Reviewed By michael b

We stayed at Complexo Alameda in June 2017; we were undertaking a road trip of Galicia and were so taken with the hotel that we decided to base our travels from it, eventually spending eleven nights there. Our room was modern, comfortable, scrupulously clean, and the bathroom and the room itself were of a good size. Our balcony, complete with table and chairs, had a view that can only be described as idyllic - overlooking a gorgeous sandy cove, and we enjoyed many an afternoon cup of tea and home-made cake just basking in the beauty of it all. The setting is tranquil, yet only five minutes from the attractive town of Viveiro. The beach is a short walk away and is excellent for swimming, sunbathing and beach-ball. The hotel has only six rooms and is run by the redoubtable Sophie, an engaging young Galician maid-of-all-work who, among her wide ranging skills, speaks good English. She strives to make your stay truly wonderful - for instance, she went out and bought muesli and PG Tips for us. So good are her powers of organisation that she even manages a daily bake of biscuits and delicious cake. Breakfast is served with Sophie's customary cheeriness, and consists of varied fare, always freshly prepared. We would urge you, if you find yourself in the area, to book in without hesitation and are confident that you will not be disappointed.

Modern, ideally located, comfortable

Reviewed By FJGonzalezG

Hotel Urban is small, but modern and the rooms are comfortable. The west facing rooms offer pleasant views of the bay and the old bridge. The hotel is located right on the Rua Ferrol, between the two bridges, and just a couple of minutes walk to the old walled part of the city. Parking is free at an underground garage about 100 yards from the building. We used the modest gym on the 2nd floor for a light workout, before breakfast, which was served on the top floor and was quite good. The receptionist was very helpful, and gave us helpful suggestions on where to get dinner nearby.

Awful customer service and old, noisy facilities

Reviewed By emgr13

The rooms are big but very badly maintained. The hotel is specialized on celebrating party, weddings and so on. People tend to be drunk, made a lot of noise on the corridors and if your room is located close to the garden (with amenities) or to the main entrance you will have problems to sleep because of the noise. Rooms smell to smoke a lot, Hotel attention to individual, foreign customers is non-existent, including when problems when drunk guests happen. A complete deception, I will not recommend to any friend.

Lovely, boutique hotel with good views

Reviewed By robertwX2677ZI

First, the “worst” part of the stay was that the A/C seemed to be out of coolant, the bathroom window latch was intact, but didn’t work, the bath faucet needs instructions to use ((but is nice looking)and the provided hair dryer quit after about two minutes of use. In a lot of places, I would not have been happy. However, this hotel is very well put together, extremely clean, with elegant lines and tasteful decor and fixtures, and the staff are great. I notified them of the issues and I know that if I had stayed one more night, they would have had all in working order for the duration, but this was just an overnighter for me. I also note they have a nice breakfast, but I did not sample it, as was too full from the night out before. That said, they make good coffee. In any case, the hotel is a great choice if you are in the area. Book it and enjoy.

Great location, great price, a little noisy

Reviewed By jenth0mps0n

This hotel was great for our needs. The rooms are spacious with everything you need and the location is right next to bars, restaurants and best of all, the beach! You're close to a nice path along the beach with beautiful views. Breakfast was small but tasty and the service was great. The walls are a bit thin and the pipes make a lot of noise anytime anyone showers/flushes the toilet, but we still slept well. Great value!
