On the Swiss Riviera, Vevey is perched between Mount PÂlerin and Lake Geneva. Writers, artists and intellectuals have long been attracted to the village: Henry James's "Daisy Miller" is set here (you can still stay at the Hotel des Trois Couronnes) and Charlie Chaplin made nearby Corsier his home. Today, it's the headquarters for Nestl yet retains its old-world charm. To see for yourself, meander the alleys of Old Town, visit the fine art collection at the Muse Jenisch and shop at the weekly market.

Welcome to the Hotel du Lac in Vevey, Switzerland. Since its establishment in 1868 the hotel offers a superb location where charm and elegance are blended with modern day comforts. These elements are perfectly suited to the experienced traveller. True to world renowned Swiss hospitality, the hotel staff treats all of the guests to an intimate and pampered environment where an attentive service makes you feel unique and special. Pets are welcome and allowed in the rooms only.
Over the years the Grand Hotel du Lac (GHDL) became our home away from home. This year, I was curious to see how they had fared through the Covid crisis. It is.a member of the Relais & Chateaux network and epitomizes all what makes a luxury hotel a true 5-star. During Covid, the hotel went through a renovation in keep with the original interior design. This year we were not surprised to see a lot of new employees, however we were really surprised to see that they were all working hard to keep the GHDL’s reputation at the top. Many establishments have gone down in service quality, or even closed, not the GHDL. Yes, there are some very minor quirks, little details that do not need to be addressed here, and they were resolved immediately. When you enter this 50-room small boutique hotel, you know you are in for something special. The decor is superb enhanced by beautiful fresh flower arrangements. The welcome at the front desk is extremely professional, friendly and courteous. The rooms are nicely appointed, lake view is definitely a plus. The room service is very good and they will accommodate to your schedule, whatever it is. The bar is small and intimate and when the veranda on the lake side opens, you definitely want to be there for a cocktail or glass of wine. From June to August, the GHDL partners with the Buddha Bar from Paris, and proposes a bar right above the outdoor pool. This is a great spot to people watch while enjoying their specialty drinks. The one-star Michelin restaurant, run by Thomas Neeser, is up to par and absolutely delicious. His wine selection is also very good and pairs perfectly with the dishes. In the morning, Les Saisons become the breakfast place with a great medium sized buffet. If it is sunny, go on the terrace, it is beautiful. Overall, the GHDL is a true 5-Star in my book. We were really impressed by the management and the fact that the hotel has not lost its touch after Covid, and will definitely be back.

Christophe and Nicolas Ming welcome you to the Hôtellerie de Châtonneyre! The 3-star establishment has been proudly located in the centre of the wine village of Corseaux, in the majestic vineyards of Lavaux - UNESCO, for 50 years now. It enjoys a magnificent view of the lake, the mountains and the town of Vevey below. It has 17 newly renovated rooms and suites, seminar and banqueting rooms for up to 300 people and a restaurant with terrace offering bistronomic cuisine using local and seasonal products, accompanied by the best wines of the region.
I don't know exactly where to begin with this. Let's point out at first, that the room (for two) was around 150.- CHF per night, just to set up the stage. But what do we get for that money? The hotel was NOT fully booked when we arrived. You could easily tell by the amount of customers having breakfast in the morning that there was still some rooms available. And yet, they decided to give us one of the rooms on the 3rd floor, directly under the roof. With a wooden ceiling and some angles. During a very warm September with up to 27°c during the day - and no AC in the room. So things got pretty hot actually which was definitely not a pleasant feeling. It didn't help either that the room itself is not too big. A decently sized bed, a minibar (empty), a safe, a tiny TV, 2 chairs and a tiny desk plus to bedside tables. It didn't even have a wardrobe, just some hangers for coats and such. No wardrobe. What the actual f*** ?! The mattress was on the harder side, but that's always subjective. We didn't particularly like it. At least everything was clean, just as the very small bathroom. You could hardly turn around in there, it almost felt as a phone booth with running water, but without a phone. Not great, but it served its purpose. Definitely not enough space for your personal items and utensils though. The restaurant is only open on 4 days a week, which is a very weird concept. At least they serve breakfast every day, albeit not a great one. Basically it's all of decent quality, even the bread (which is more than other Hotels can claim), but the variety us just not there. Some cereal, two types of meat, 2 types of cheese, a bit of fruit, eggs, yoghurt and 5 different kinds of bread. Go nuts. It's okay and gets you fed, but I would not dare calling it a good breakfast. Sort of the same goes with diner, if you manage to catch one of the 4 days they are actually open for business. It's all cooked well, but the portions could be a notch bigger sized. Plus, all the dishes sound very fancy on paper, but the taste doesn't really match that picturesque description. But it seems that 'making it sound fancy' is their way of setting up the prices. A pork chop with a handful of veggies and some polenta for 40.-? That's steep. Last but not least we got the 'service quality', which is basically nonexistant. Some of the staff speaks English and some German, whereas others only speak in French. I might be alone with that opinion, but if you work in a touristic place, a 2nd language can be expected, even if it would not be perfect. But the language barrier is just the tip of the iceberg. If you check in on MO or TU, there is no reception. You are emailed a code for the door and the key to your room lies on a table at the entrance, for anyone to pick. The reception desk is never occupied at all. It's the staff from the bar/restaurant that handles this part as well. So when you check out, you just hand them your key and that's it. Cutting corners, eh? That's one way of doing it, just don't have a freaking reception at all. Wow. Sometimes during the breakfast it was almost impossible to order some more coffee, as the (only!) waitress just didn't even look at you. I understand that you got quite some work if you have to handle the breakfast all on your own. But aside from the drinks it was all on buffet and no orders had to be taken. Plus, I rarely saw more than 5 tables busy at once. So it should be manageable to be a little more attentive and check if your customers would possibly need something. Similar situation at diner. There were only 2 servers and it took way too long to actually clean off the table after we finished our plates and if we wouldn't have called for service, we would have waited even longer. If you actually manage to catch the staff (and you might even understand each other) they are very friendly. There's no argueing about that. But the level of service was actually not there. In short: if you're just on the lookout to spend some nights in a clean room without ANY extras at all, this serves exactly that purpose. But for that alone, 150.- are way too much. You can get exactly the same level of room- and servicequality in Hotels that are 50.- less per night. Not recommended.

Welcome to Hotel de la Place, a flagship of Vaud heritage, located in the heart of the vineyards and the village of Corsier, above the city of Vevey. Installed in a beautiful building listed, dating from 1592 and well representative of the Bernese in country of Vaud architecture, it houses a typical Vaud « Café » which kept its beautiful beams of origin, as well as a small warm room with fireplace. Framework for an evening with friends, a little family reunion or simply a welcome stop. The most recent part was completely renovated and converted into a small hotel modern and comfortable. The comfortable rooms at very friendly price have sink, shower/WC, TV and wifi.
While this hotel is quite lovely, note the times they are open prior to going. There are about 80 stairs to take from the street level to get to the hotel, you may want to inquire ahead of time how the best way to get there is. They also do not have air conditioning which is probably fine except that I was there during their recent heat wave. They did have a small fan. The hotel is clean, nicely decorated and there is a restaurant connected to it which is quite good.

Room is compact, so you have to take turns moving around. Loved the warmed tile floor in the bathroom. Very close to lakeshore and weekly market. About 5 to 6 minute walk from train. Great shopping around and dining choices. Breakfast buffet had fabulous croissants. Very good coffee came was freshly brewed, came to the table in a pot with another pot of hot milk. We don’t give this a “5” because of the noise....lots of human traffic in the street well past midnight (it was a Tuesday) and at 10pm our next door neighbours, about four people, sounded like they were in our room....having a great visit....not drunk, not arguing...just noisy. I mentioned this in the morning as we were checking out, to be told ten pm “was not late”. So it’s a “4”!

Despite an amazing eye for detail and a fantastic house with an amazing view, the host lacks friendly social skills and etiquette. We did appreciate that we could leave our suitcases in the garage. (We arrived admittedly before the check in time of 1600 because we wanted to see some of the area and I was at fault that I didn't inform her before) However please be aware that you are taking money from us and we are guests in your B&B yet were made to feel like intruders. Also it was a very uncomfortable feeling to realise that our rooms had been entered while we were at breakfast. (We noticed the bins had been cleaned). Of you are going to have a strict check in time of 1600 then we request that you respect your own check out time of 10:00 and to not start doing the laundry or cleaning the rooms before.

booked a table on the terrace. The menu was quite limited with some shocking items (ex: filet de Perche from Estonia) charged CHF 43.--. This would be the price for the local product. We also ordered entrecôte, meat was OK but "sauce au poivre" was tasteless & vegetable totally overcooked and just smashed on the plate (CHF 40.--) . When they cleaned our table I made the comment regarding the vegetables, another employee then came to understand where they failed, which I kindly explained. This did not seem to matter to him "we cannot make everybody happy" was his reply. I wish them good luck for the future as with this attitude, only luck can help.

I often travel to Vevey, and have always stayed in Hotel Astra, which is amazing hotel, but sometimes overpriced. This time, my friends and I booked four rooms at Vision Apartments, which is just across the road... but we really wish we hadn't. In the lobby, and the upper floors, everything was fine. But as soon as you I opened the door to go to the lower floor (where my "Deluxe room", VCU001, was located), I started noticing a smell. In the corridors, which were perfectly clean, it got worse. And in my room it was even worse. It's like a mixture of mould, and cigarette smoke. When I got home, I had to wash all of my clothes, even the clean ones, as they all smelt so bad from the room. Just to add to my misery, one of my neighbours had a shower at 5am on the Saturday morning, and it sounded like my room was in a washing machine. I was genuinely Googling for nearby hotels at 5.20am. The apartment block is right next to the train station, so despite incredibly thick windows, you might be woken up by the noise and vibrations every few minutes (particularly if you're on the lower-ground floor). The air conditioning was useless. It had three buttons which did nothing but vary the amount of noise, without ever making the room cooler, even on the coldest setting. The room itself is quite nice (if you don't breathe in). It's modern, has a fairly small but comfortable bed, and the bathroom is genuinely beautiful. You have a fridge, microwave, a collection of glasses and a coffee machine. There is a Coop Pronto at the train station, which is two minutes away. The confirmation email from the hotel says you can request a free "Montreux Riviera Card", but as reception is closed during the weekend, you need to request this in advance if you're arriving after 6pm on Friday. Two of our group of four DID request this... but they didn't receive a card. And as they arrived at 6.15pm on Friday, there was no way for them to get one. (Sigh.) And as other guests have mentioned, there's no room key or card. You always need to enter the building and into your room using a 6-digit code. Personally, I miss having a key, and there's no safe in the room to lock away valuables. And you'd often get people outside, waiting for you to enter your code to enter the building, then following you into the building. With absolutely no staff working throughout the weekend, was it meant to be up to the clients to stop this happening ? There is also a Spa, which, according to the sign, was completely closed due to COVID. This felt like an excuse... the spa area in Hotel Astra, next door, has been opened for weeks, with restrictions on the number of people using it at once. Update: the reception is completely closed during the weekend, but I received an email apologising for the smell, and they said they'd "inform our cleaning department about this issue". Errr, no. The apartment and corridors were immaculately clean... but they stank. It hits you as soon as you leave the ground floor and head downstairs. And in my room, it got even worse. And no, they had no other rooms I could move to. Honestly, my friends (whose rooms weren't on the lower-ground floor) were perfectly happy with their rooms. The best tip I can give you, when you receive your confirmation email, showing your 6-digit entry code, if the "Deluxe Room" number is VCU001, VCU002, VCU003 or VCU004, politely decline, and demand another one. Or go elsewhere.
