Let’s start with the rooms: avoid the ones in the old wing. I was assigned to #3 which in order to get to, requires to go through their gift shop. Its location along with rooms 1 through 3 is on a hallway which is the thoroughfare to get to the games and pool, so pedestrian traffic is constant. The ‘view’ from the room is an enclosed dried yellow lawn. Son I requested to be changed which was initially denied because I had made my reservation months ago. Ignoring such a dumb excuse I insisted on seeing the manager. I was given room #10 on the other side of the old wing. Which wasn’t any better. It faced the highway. Ripped curtains, walls with brown stains, drafty ‘original’ flimsy, wooden door. Smelly bathroom. Let’s move onto the grounds: all the ‘landscaping’ efforts have gone to the entry courtyard which has potted geraniums and begonias in a boring linear arrangement. It’s colorful but a yawn. And there all efforts to beautify the other courtyards or the grounds stopped. There is maybe two uncomfortable metal benches throughout the outdoor place where one can sit a read a book. And lastly the restaurant: skip it. Buffet breakfast which as one knows or should, a grand excuse to get rid of all the leftovers from the week before. Same printed menu for lunch and dinner. No specials of the day. Ever. And everything was overcooked and tasteless. Their main focus and emphasis when I stayed, was to sell off the land they own. There was an in house real estate agent in the courtyard with a booth and giant TV doing her pitch. With such poor upkeep in the rooms, neglected grounds and food not even fit for a war zone, why would anyone buy land in this place?

This hotel desperately needed a review on this site. Its such a mixture of nice and tacky and comfy clean but lukewarm-water-in-the-showers.. recommend-but-not-recommend. Here goes: This hotel probably has the best view of the city in all of Tlaxcala. From our room we had a view of the full moon, two cathedrals and a beautifully clear January sky overlooking all the tiny lights of the city. And waking up drawing the curtains and overseeing the entire city was priceless. The hotel is also (surprisingly) just a few blocks from the main square. We had dinner and hit a bar in the Zocalo square that nite and returned to the hotel walking without a problem. Rooms where clean though they do look like they´ve had their share of years. Staff was friendly. Rooms where averagely inexpensive for the city at 480mn. The place has that ol´ Las Vegas´ Circus Circus feel (or an eastern european all inclusive family holiday resort in Slovenia): because of the tacky colors and decor, because of the pink color palette; because of the signs everywhere instructing you how to hold the elevator door open or to watch your step, every step of the way; because it feels a bit old. There was no hot water. Either its one of those hotels in Mexico where you have to wait forever and turn the water on and off twice before by some trick of the pipes and hot water is delivered to your room .. but we had no luck. We would´ve complained to management but battled it with a lukewarm water. That was my only real complaint. If staying here just check with management about the boiler rooms conditions. Tlaxcala is a Beautiful beautiful city. Overlooked by my account on most guidebooks, especially being so close to Mexico City. If in Tlaxcala make sure NOT to visit Huamantla (Pueblo Magico). Pay no mind to all the advertisments: unless your staying at that nice Hacienda in Huamantla or are there on the day of the Puppet Fair... there is noooothing there.

Tiny Tlaxcala is nestled in the mountains between CDMX and Puebla. It's a small town with a wonderful plaza packed with delicious food, art and culture. I stayed at this Posada and found it relaxing as well. Rooms are huge, with enormously comfy beds. Common areas include an outdoor gazebo and living room. It's a lot of luxury for a low price and the service is excellent as well.

A charming Mexican style hotel/boutique located right in the heart the historical Tlaxcala City. The main attractions are walking distance such as churches, restaurants, museums, etc.
Hotel La Casona de Cortes is a charming small hotel located only a few blocks from the zócalo in Tlaxcala. The rooms are situated around a lovely central courtyard and fountain. The King superior rooms and bathrooms are large, filled with colorful painted Mexican furniture and ours had a small balcony that looked out onto the street. There was plenty of hot water in the shower and toiletries were provided. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of blankets to keep warm on cold winter nights. As others have mentioned, there is no heat and because of the stone walls and tile floors, the rooms do tend to be cold. They would be great in the summertime with no need for A/C! We didn't spend a lot of time in our rooms so the cold didn't bother us or our friends but it may be a downside for some people. Also, around 8:30 am, the State Police barracks next door have reveille which might disturb some light sleepers but, other than that, our room was very quiet. There is free wifi access throughout the hotel and it is also pet-friendly. La Casona de Cortes has an attractive on-site restaurant that is open for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is not included in the price of the room but there were lots of choices, the portions were generous, prices were reasonable, everything was well-prepared and service was excellent. All of the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful which made our stay an enjoyable one. We loved Tlaxcala and would definitely stay at La Casona de Cortes again, if we should return.

With this pandemic, I really appreciate the safety measures this hotel has in place. Hand washing and sanitizer stations, temperature taken as well. The restaurant staff kept a log of each person with their info, temperature and any other issues.Masks are require. Food is prepare to order. From the Airport, transportation and the Hotel staff I was ask if I came in contact with anyone sick witch was a little tiring but I realize that it is for our own safety. Pretty safe I'll say.
