Fosshotel Stykkisholmur is a recently renovated 3-star hotel in a lovely little fishing village of Stykkishólmur, sometimes called the town of thousand islands. This beautiful town's atmosphere is set by old houses that make you feel like a time traveller. Stykkishólmur is the center for service, trade, and transport for the whole Breidafjordur area. The hotel restaurant has a warm atmosphere, a modern bar and a superb conference room that welcomes up to 300 guests.
I arrived in late May for a 3 night stay. They met my request for a quiet room with an upgrade to move me away from tour groups. Rafaela at the front desk was amazing! She's friendly and efficient handling check-in & guest concerns with a personal touch. Breakfast was $17 but my best option with eggs, sausage, bacon & pancakes plus an array of cold choices. My room was spacious, quiet, comfortable with a great view of the mountains & sea. I had a rain shower that was nice. They have an elevator. They have one of the only bars in town with a friendly Hungarian bar-keep. I don't usually stay Fosshotel but this was very nice

Guesthouse and Cafe
Terrific place. Off-season so I was one of two guests. I was met to be given access, very friendly and efficient. Rooms are simple however perfectly fine. The area upstairs is 70's style and very well done. The common area and kitchen downstairs are both great. I had a twin room which was well priced . Bathrooms all good. In summary I thought it had character and was perfectly located and spotlessly clean.

Akkeri Guesthouse is a new guesthouse in the heart of the old town in Stykkisholmur. Quite a few restaurants are in walking distance from Akkeri Guesthouse as well as the harbour and a few interesting museums. A perfect location to stay for a few days and get to know one of Iceland's more beautiful towns.
In 7 nights we stayed at 6 different accommodations. Since they were each unique I can’t pick a favorite, but I must say this was the friendliest. I enjoyed speaking to the innkeeper about the wildlife, and the local lifestyle. I find these subjects fascinating. I am glad I spent a night in this town. I felt like I had the opportunity to see how Icelanders live. About our room. It was small, but spotless. The bathroom is small, but modern. The view was beautiful. We could see the harbor, and the quaint architecture of the town. We had a TV which we actually watched Eurovision on. We purchased breakfast which was good. The price was very good for the quality of accommodation. I highly recommend this Friendly guesthouse.

Lovely spot to stay in Stykkisholmur Very clean, nicely appointed rooms with a lovely view of the harbour. We were given a map of the small town and suggestions of 4 places to have dinner. A nice easy walk around the town from the hotel and to the restaurant Skippers Gastropub. There is a little bar sitting room on the main floor beside a little chapel. In the morning a delicious breakfast with a good selection of foods. Highly recommend staying for a night!

I was really booking blind when I picked our hotels for a trip around the Ring Road (and a detour onto the peninsula) and Hotel Stundarfridur was a lucky hit, for sure. Very well located, about a 15 minute drive outside of Stykkisholmur, 8 minutes to Helgafell, and less than half an hour to the Bharnarhofn Shark Museum. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and while breakfast is not included, you can book it on arrival for your next day if you want. There's a tiny gift shop, too. Next time we might opt for one of the Stundarfridur guesthouses, rather than the hotel itself, just because they look so cute, but we were very happy in the hotel and slept very well- much needed after a busy day of sightseeing. Highly recommend.

This is a family run business and they do a great job. Our bed was comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. I was able to let Sara know ahead of time that we would be arriving late from the ferry and she was helpful and had our key waiting. All the lovely plants made it feel like we were staying at a friends house. Also, I still regret not buying one of the lovely sweaters for sale in the hallway, they're much more expensive the closer you get to Reykjavik.

Quiet, well appointed, little cottage on the shore of a small lake at the base of a holy mountain. What mor do you want? We were initially greeted by a friendly and efficeint dog. She saw to it that we got in, wiped our feet, scratched her neck and satisfied that we understood life, left us. We met ourhost Lara, later on as we eplored a bit. We hiked up the hill the next norning before heaing out to the ferry to Flatey. I would go back in a heartbeat. Hosts were communicative, but repectful of privacy and quick to respond to questions and issues.
