Isn’t it romantic? The Caribbean island of St. Croix is practically the backdrop of a Hollywood love story. White sand beaches and lush rainforests set the scene for tropical bliss. Take in the historic small town charm of Christiansted and Frederiksted, sip your way through a spirited tour of the Cruzan Rum Distillery or explore the ruins of a sugar plantation. And the diving…oh, the diving. Think shipwrecks, think vibrant ocean life, think endless underwater possibilities.

"The Fred", is a historic 22 room, eco-friendly, beachfront, boutique resort, spa, restaurant, bar & gift shop named after King Frederik V of Denmark who is also the namesake for our town of Frederiksted on the US Virgin island of St. Croix. The Fred is the only beachfront hotel that is also located in town on the island and it’s the first new hotel to open on St. Croix since 1986.
My fiancée and I stayed at The Fred for a long weekend over Memorial Day and loved our time there! The Fred is a beautiful beachfront property with a sizable pool, hot tub, and bar. The property is kept very clean and employees are constantly maintaining the plants, pool area, chairs, and beachfront. The hotel is also gated and has security, which is comforting as the area around the hotel is not very populated at night. The hotel staff is attentive, accommodating, and friendly and routinely checked in with us throughout our stay. Our room was large, clean, and very comfortable with AC - we also enjoyed sitting on the balcony overlooking the ocean right outside our door. The Fred is great if you are looking to spend your day relaxing while looking at the beautiful scenery and there are a few bars and restaurants within walking distance as well - we enjoyed walking to Beach Side Cafe, 69 and Polly's for breakfast. The hotel is also a short walk to a well-maintained beachfront path and huge pier which is really nice as there is not much room to walk along the beach in front of the hotel as it's very rocky. Although Frederiksted is technically a "town," it is a very quiet part of the island though there are a few restaurants and bars within walking distance but it is very quiet at night and does not have nearly as much nightlife or shops that are found in Christiansted. If you're primarily looking for a relaxing vacation, lounging by the pool or beach, you will love The Fred. If you are looking to explore a bit more, I definitely recommend renting a car (we did) as taxis are not readily available - The Fred also has free parking for hotel guests right outside the hotel! Overall we loved our time at The Fred and would absolutely stay again!

All rooms are designed and furnished to be an intimate retreat surrounded by the beachfront beauty of St. Croix. Each room features a private patio or balcony for maximum enjoyment of our spectacular views and cooling breezes. Leisure rates include breakfast each morning, welcome rum or fruit punch, wifi, fitness center access, self parking, snorkel gear, kayaks and daily guest activities.
We traveled here for our honeymoon which ended up being a perfect spot to relax. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean - we loved the view from our patio overlooking the tidepools. We spent time at the two beaches with amenities (loved the delivery service at the beach/pool) which were both quiet and relaxing. We golfed a round one day and the golf pro, Kenny, was helpful and encouraging. The daily breakfast buffet was incredibly comfortable and offered a variety of choices each day. The front desk helped us with taxis to Christiansted when we did go into town for dinners. We would definitely think about going back to the Buccaneer!

One of the best resorts on the still struggling island of St. Croix (post-COVID, and Hurricanes Irma & Maria). Nice westerly facing beach and very quiet. It does require a bit of a drive to get here. Good bar, ok restaurant, polite staff. A/C in rooms is great. Layout is multiple bungalow type buildings. Remember everything here is “island time”. Plan for long waits for meals, etc.

Historic Caribbean charm is what you will enjoy throughout our 22,000 square foot island property. Uniquely situated on the waterfront in the vibrant downtown of Frederiksted on the West Coast of St. Croix, you will be delighted by the sweeping water views and spectacular sunsets every evening. Enjoy some of the best beaches on the island within walking distance. Each of the studios and apartments are fully equipped to anticipate your every need. In addition to the hotel, Victoria House has an air conditioned indoor event space, plus a large outdoor courtyard perfect for hosting your events, meetings, parties, weddings and more! Victoria House was built in the late 18th century, and has housed many prominent Frederiksted merchants and citizens. Its distinctive gingerbread trim was added after the house was partially burnt in the “Fireburn” labor insurrection of 1878. The Gardine Family has owned it since 1946. Victoria House has recently been lovingly renovated and restored, preserving as many of the original features as possible.
Victoria House is situated on the gorgeous Frederiksted Waterfront, steps away from the clear, turquoise sea. The rooms are beautifully done, inspired by all the colors of the Caribbean. We stayed in the Mermaid Room on the third floor and loved it! Especially the balcony, where we lounged in the evening, sipping wine and watching the sun sink over the water. Inside the bed was so comfortable and the a/c so cool that we didn’t want to get up! The charming town of Frederiksted is a gem with its historic buildings (including Victoria House!), lovely waterfront path, shopping, dining, beaches, snorkeling and diving, horseback rides, rainforest tours and more. All without being overly crowded! Plus, being on the west side of the island, the beaches are protected. The sea is welcoming, flat, calm, clear and free of sea grass. If you’re planning a trip to St. Croix, choose Victoria House and you are sure fall in love with Frederiksted like we have.

I called earlier on arrival day and talked to the proprietor about arriving by ten pm. All seemed ok. Then we arrived and could not get in. They had NOT sent the code. I used the red phone that was supposed to connect with office people. It rang but I could not connect with anyone. Our phones were useless because of poor cell service. We waited. After an hour we drove to find another hotel, and cell phones COULD work, and finally connected with proprietor. Only to find out wifi codes not listed. Had to call again on that. Midnight, we were settled. Good breakfast, though.
