Last Minute half term adventure

Reviewed By space-elf

I booked as a last minute surprise for the kids at the end of half term. The hotel was great. The room wasn't massive but it had plenty of room for a double and a single bed and a large bathroom. Both spotlessly clean, well maintained and modern decor. Kids loved the indoor pool. I loved that they could go in and I could just sit and watch them! The best thing about this hotel though are the staff. Welcoming and helpful front desk. Friendly housekeeping (who were doing an amazing job given that it was busy and they are very short-staffed) and lovely waiting staff in the restaurant. Like everyone else, a massive thank you to Louise. She looked after my son's dietary issue at short notice for dinner and checked on us in the morning too. And the chef who prepared food especially for him. I've stayed at many grander hotels where the staff are pleasant but uninterested but I'd much rather stay somewhere like the Doric where the staff make you feel genuinely welcome.

The Hotel was so, so much better than I expected. After viewing so many other places in Blackpool online and not being overly impressed I opted to book a room at Park House Hotel after speaking to the lovely Amy on reception. I was not disappointed! The breakfast was great offering a continental AND a full English. I was on the third floor so two elevators was great. The refurbished room with a side seaview was spacious, tastefully decorated and very clean with white fresh bedding. There was adequate seating, a dressing table and hangers in wardrobe space aswell as a kettle. (tea/coffee/milk/cookie provided) . The bathrooms are clean and offer both a jet and overhead shower with room for two. Shavers point mirror and light over sink, plently of white crispy clean towels and a bin. There's three bars serving a good selection of drinks, two serving food. The seats are clean and comfy and theres lots of areas to sitback. The ground floor maintains its wonderful period features and there's even a piano. The Staff: The staff are truly a credit to the owners. Amy sold this place to me. Ameilia and Conner both added an extra touch (see pics) which overwlmed me with appreciation. As a solo traveller for the first time I felt like i was amongst friends. Tim was lovely serving affordable drinks at the bar and friendly conversation. There was a sincere willingness to help felt, from all the staff. Thankyou to the staff members who helped me get my gift home. Some of the guests have been returning for years and equally made me feel comfortable, at ease and very welcome as a solo traveller. Thankyou Mavis, Sue & Mark and Joy. Location Perfect! Theres a tram service outside that runs every 12mins for those who may have mobility issues. Scooter hire is available (ask at reception). I loved strolling the promenade to the Pleasure beach and back, browsing shops and sitting by the sea periodically. The hotel iis in North side, 3 mins by car or 10min walk from Blackpool North train station. I would highly recommend this hotel all day long!

Lovely stay

Reviewed By Y8867SGjohna

My wife and I were in Blackpool for a show and chose to stay at the Imperial. The location is superb as it right on the seafront. Check in was welcoming, quick and efficient. We had a couple of issues with the room allocated and the Duty Manager (Jordan) dealt with the situation immediately and professionally so a big thank you to him. Breakfast was extremely enjoyable with a good selection of food. Very helpful staff and not rushed. A big thank you to all the staff! Every employee I encountered always had a smile on their face and went out of their way to help. I understand that the hotel is going through a refurbishment and I know it takes time. In all honesty I wouldn't have known if I hadn't been told. A big thank you to all and yes I would recommend the Imperial.

Needs a little polish

Reviewed By 415carlk

We booked this hotel pre covid for a concert at The Grand Theatre, but due to a bit of a pandemic two year have passed, but the gig was rebooked so we stuck with our original choice. The hotel has rooms that overlook the pitch, but as I am not a football fan we decided on a standard room. We arrived early about three hours, but spoke to reception and we were allowed to park on the car park. Which was a great help, albeit there are loads of car parks nearby. When we checked in the lady on the desk was great. Very welcoming. The room price with breakfast for 2 was £85. Very reasonable. The room was spotlessly clean and smelt very fresh. I would say it needed a bit of polish and tarting up. The towel rail was loose on the wall, the wall near the bathroom had bare plaster and a crack on the edge. The shower gel dispenser was empty, I forgot ours so had to keep hopping out to use the one by the sink. Minor again but it’s attention to detail that dropped the rating. This didn’t detract from our stay. Bed was very comfy. Tea, coffee and and iron in the room. Main gripe and we did relate this on leaving. It was very noisy. There were a group of youngsters 10-12 year olds at a guess possibly using the venue for a football training camp. They all had football kit. They were running about till just before midnight. Expect a bit of noise in peak times. You can also hear noise between rooms. Take ear plugs if you are sensitive. Or drink more wine and sleep heavy. The breakfast was fantastic. Not sure how chef did the scrambled eggs but my missus said they were better than mine. Other than that value for money, location, breakfast and staff all very good. Sadly Blackpool needs a great deal of regeneration but the gig was awesome.

Check-in from Hell (taking over 2hr 45mins)

Reviewed By sdwardle

Booked this hotel for a special birthday treat for my lad as we was going to watch Mrs Browns Boys D’Live Show at Blackpool Winter Gardens. Drove past this hotel many a time and for years. Sea fronting hotel that looks nice on the outside and images of the hotel seemed nice from several booking sites. Where do we start…. We arrived at approx. 14:20pm to be shown a room that was sub-standard and not as per the websites photos. Dated decor with very worn laminate flooring and a fantastic view of the rear service yard (not very picturesque). Stained/rusted ceiling to the en-suite shower room, and a mattress that had more bounce than the bouncy castles on the Central Pier! After my partner requested a room change, the experience started to get worse! A room that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned with dusty dressing tables, cobwebs, stained carpets and rusty sanitary fittings you would be susceptible to catching tetanus if you touched the plug chain or shower shelf! Again another fantastic view… this time of a brick wall and decor that was dated and befitting of an old peoples home. This time I went down to speak with the Duty Manager to request a room change. Unfortunately the Duty Manager was “busy” and got shown a room that was cleaner, however smelt like an cigarette ashtray - maybe due to the bedroom being situated directly over the smoking shelter outside. After over an hour and a half of trying to get a room that was of an acceptable standard to sleep in we got to the point of requesting a full refund to source an alternative hotel to stay the night - we even contemplated at sleeping in the car at this point! The hotel reception staff said they would provide a full refund which would take 2-5 working days to refund, however I would need to contact the travel company I had booked through. This was a nightmare in itself to try and speak with a human rather than a virtual robot. After coming to no avail with trying to contact the travel agency, we was able to speak with the Duty Manager to see what he could do (if anything). Half an hour later we was shown to a room that was of an acceptable standard, that smelt/looked clean and didn’t have any rusty fixtures/fittings. Why did this take over two hours and 45 minutes to check into a hotel to a suitable standard level of hotel hospitality? The hotel is like an obstacle course and maze of corridors and steps, not the best for mobility impaired guests. Lifts are available, however Wayfinding is difficult to navigate around, and we got lost on multiple occasions. Better directional signs would help for the exit/reception. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to experience the restaurant, drinks or entertainment offer as we was on the minutes to get to watch our show; however a selection of evening entertainment is available in both the two lounges. Breakfast was served between 08:15am-09:15am. Not the best. The waitress staff looked like they had just woke up, with creased uniforms and looked like they needed a coffee more than me! The supervisor however was on the ball. There was a poor selection of cereals - bran flakes, special k, cornflakes, porridge; with a substandard English breakfast (bacon, sausage, egg, tomato, baked beans). Toast was available with a choice of strawberry jam, marmalade or honey. Fresh waffles was also available. The food was of poor quality. The 2.45hr checkin experience tainted the whole birthday staycation. This will certainly be a birthday to remember!
