It’s true: parts of Belize are getting touristy. But San Ignacio remains rustic, making it a great base for budget-friendly tropical adventure travel. Canoe on the Macal River, or walk to Mayan ruins at Cahal Pec (just be warned: it's uphill).

A new boutique hotel in downtown San Ignacio, Cayo, in the Caribbean country of Belize. The MBDH aspires to be the quality choice for downtown San Ignacio. We are exclusive to our guests and have all the information on downtown activities, shops and restaurants. Our rooms are minimalist in design to evoke seclusion and rest. When you enter our lobby, you will see and feel how separated the facilities and rooms are from the energy of downtown. As a guest, you don't need to buy water or coffee locally as we provide those with your stay.
The price of a room is high compared to what it really is. They don't do room service every day. When we got to our room we couldn't find a towel or soap, the fridge was turned off and there wasn't even a bottle of water in the fridge Luckily we booked only two nights Bad experience

Very friendly, well-organized, and efficient. And beautifully grounds within a beautiful setting with a rich array of bird life and other fauna. It's difficult to think of how a stay at Chaa Creek Lodge might be improved.

Black Rock Lodge's stunning rainforest location offers unmatched opportunity for adventure. Whether canoeing the Macal River, horseback riding to Flourcamp Cave, or touring nearby Tikal & Caracol, guests are inspired by the diversity of the local wildlife, including over 320 bird species sighted on the property. Our commitment to environmental stewardship is evident in every aspect of your stay and our knowledgeable and friendly staff go above and beyond to ensure your comfort and enjoyment.
This is not an upscale place by any means. No Mini fridge, AC and wifi is only in certain cabins, however if you want to see lots of wildlife and enjoy the jungle this is the place to be. The staff were so friendly and helpful, particularly Lloyd and Fernando.

This characteristic has dubbed the Resort as “the only jungle in town”. San Ignacio Resort Hotel has been the recipient of numerous awards including “Hotel of the Year” (2016, 2012), “Restaurant of the Year” (2016), and “Hospitality Award” (2015) from the Belize Tourism Board.
My 15 year old daughter and I spent 4 nights here. The room was comfortable, with very good A/C, comfortable beds and clean, spacious bathroom. We ate several meals here, although we'd intended to do more in-town restaurant exploring than we did, because the hotel restaurant was so convenient and delicious. the pool was beautiful and felt great after tours in the heat and humidity. The Green Iguana Project was also worth a visit. The employees were all very courteous and helpful. We booked several excursions through the hotel and although they were slightly more expensive than I could have gotten elsewhere, the tours and guides were exceptional! We especially enjoyed Cruz and Jason - so thorough, knowledgeable, and personable. I could tell I was getting a better experience than other tours around us. I would stay here again and book with Cruz and Jason, for sure.

Friendly staff that remember you after the first meeting. Thank you, Rita! I was there with 3 teen boys and they literally thought of the staff as family and the grounds as home by the end of our 4 days. We took the ATM Cave tour and the Xunantunich Ruins by horseback, leaving an entire day to tube, canoe and relax by the pool and on our treehouse hammock. One issue we had was with their booking agent trying to charge us an up fee on transportation. We had the all inclusive package and before we left for our trip they tried to charge me for transportation from the airport. I got that taken care of and then they did it again when we left. Thank goodness I had my confirmation emails where they clearly stated what was included with all of my details. Thankfully the front desk knew what they were doing was wrong and helped us clear it up. I’m sure it’s because the cost of gas has gotten so high, so be careful! The rooms are dark, so bring a reading light if you like to read in bed. The beach at the river is beautiful, but rocky, so bring water shoes. Bug spray.

Ka'ana Resort is Belize's first Small Luxury Hotel of the World. True to its Mayan name 'Ka'ana' meaning, 'heavenly place,' this delightful resort, set in tropical gardens, offers exceptional accommodation in charming cottages with fine dining, superb service and easy access to ancient Mayan sites and numerous thrilling activities. Enjoy the best of Belize - its people, its food, and its attractions at a world class resort.
Minus 1 star for mediocre onsite restaurant. Waitstaffs and open air restaurant vibe were excellent but food was bland and uninteresting. I had a dinner & 3 breakfasts there. I repeated the breakfast meals only because it was included, & I was able to pre-order the day before. Pre-ordering really help since it takes 30-45 minutes to get your food otherwise. We had ordered 3 steak and egg for the 1st breakfast and only the eggs were edible. All 3 steaks were chewy-rubbery and had almost a rancid taste. Needless to say, none of us ate the steaks after the first 2 bites. We stayed with the safer choice of oatmeal and the stuff fry jacks after that. Portions were generous but we wasted food because nothing was especially tasty. Minus the 2nd star because the property did not live up to its expensive rate with direct booking. I was charged $2731 USD for 3 nights & 2 casitas. The rooms were basic and did not look like the website pictures. One safe did not work & the 2nd safe ran out of battery the 2nd day, requiring me to wait in the room while handyman replace the batteries. There were tiny little white bugs around the counter above the mini-refrigerator. I did not put my items on counter space or touching walls to avoid transporting any unwanted passengers. I did not report the buggy issue since bugs are to be expected in a tropical clime and there were only about 5 dozen bugs scurrying about. The water pressure was low and tepid for the outdoor tub and shower. It was not relaxing to soak in a tub of lukewarm water while trying to commune with nature. Thank goodness the indoor shower only has the low pressure issue. Some of the pool loungers are stained & has rips with the stuffing visible. The pool was tiny and the water was cloudy, hopefully from over-chlorination and nothing else. Cleaning staff was awesome & the room was cleaned twice a day. I drove 5 min to the Rumor Resort next door and gave them a bag of 25 articles for washing at 2PM & requested a 6PM pickup. They were glad to do it for $10USD. I did not even enquired at Ka'ana since I had read in a review that the resort charges $3-5 USD per piece. This brings me to my next point. You need a car when staying at Ka'ana otherwise you are at their mercy regarding food and laundry. It is outside of San Ignacio. Luckily, it is very simple to drive in Belize. You only have a handful of highways that are 1 way in each direction, making navigation around the country simple. There are very few cars on the road since gas is about $6.5/G and minimum wage is $1.65/h. There are frequent speed humps so you can't race anywhere.Going above 10mph over the higher speed bumps will launch you with a rather jarring landing. Even driving on unpaved roads to the San Ignacio garden, to meet up with our guide at the ATM, or to the Coxcomb Jaguar Preserve were not problematic in the 4 wheel drive. I think a teen with a learner permit can handle these roads. I am not an adventurous driver & would not attempt to drive in Bangkok or would only reluctantly drive in NYC. Don't expect luxury at Ka'anna. It was a poor choice but Cha Creek was sold out when I booked 1 month in advance. Luckily, my 2 other bookings for San Pedro & Hopkins were less expensive but were 5/5.

The resort is wonderful! The room was clean and had a great fan and AC. The resort itself was beautiful and unique. We are not birders but loved seeing the Toucan and Parrot on the property (only place in the country we saw any!). The property is stunning. Very safe place to stay. The homemade food prepared for us was delicious! Some of our favorite meals were here. The family was kind and went above and beyond to meet all of our needs including our accommodations, food, drinks, transportation, and arranging COVID tests prior to leaving. I would highly recommend staying here and I would happily come back!

Cahal Pech Village Resort is located in the heart of the Mayan world, San Ignacio, Cayo District, Belize. We offer professionally guided tours of local and other Mayan ruins in English and Spanish, as well as access to Mayan Healing, Culture and Art. We also offer Eco-tours, Jungle Adventure, Horseback Riding, Reef Diving and more. Relax at our Pool, or see Belize’s Beaches and Caves, Waterfalls, Sink Holes and Zoo.
It's easy to see that Cahal Pech Village Resort has the best views of San Ignacio, perhaps the best grounds (the pools!), and I would argue the best drinks in town. But what makes Cahal Pech really special is the people. Every single person who works at the resort: from the front desk, to the restaurant, to the bar, and on all of the tours, went above and beyond to make us feel special, and to welcome us to Belize. I recommend Cahal Pech and would definitely stay again. We stayed in one of the cabanas and enjoyed the privacy and servicing of the room every day. The A/C was comfortable in the extreme heat. The porch with the hammock was especially relaxing! It is really unique to be able to experience small group tours with knowledgeable and friendly tour guides. I can't recommend Derek (Caracol / Waterfall Tour) and Basilio (ATM Tour) any more- they were both amazing! It is a nice walk into town to try other bars and restaurants, as well as the market (15 or so minutes). I definitely encourage taking a taxi back- it is worth the small fare. It's also worth checking out the Cahal Pach Ruins which are right next door. We love Cahal Pech & hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did!

We stayed here 3 nights with a party of 11 and it was great! The location is great for going to Tikkal and the ATM caves. They will set you up with great tour guides and arrange for pick-up and drop off. Our tours were great. The accommodation is clean and has such an adventurous appeal. Pool was small but perfect for a dip and relaxing. The restaurant was not open but we ate nearby at some great finds and it was so easy to navigate the town.

Our place is close to parks, tourist attractions as ATM, Caracol, Mountain Pine Ridge ..... You’ll love it because of the outdoors space, quietness and showering under the stars. We welcome couples, solo adventurers and business travelers. The rooms as well as the tree house have electricity, coffee makers, fridge, ventilator, private porch, inside bathroom and outdoor showers.
The Green Valley Inn in Western Belize was the middle of our 25th-anniversary trip stay. We had so many adventures touring Mayan ruins, adventuring through ATM (not for the meek!), exploring San Ignacio, and spending so many quality meals with Marcela and Eva. Marcela was able to set up wonderful guides to ATM and Caracol, and then she sat with us and gave wonderful suggestions on day trips to San Igancio, Xunantunich, Cahal Pech (surprisingly our favorite site!), chocolate making, and wonderful places to eat. We had a rental car and wanted to explore and were able to do so to our heart's content. Speaking of wonderful food, we had most of our meals with Marcela and Eva and wouldn't dare change it! Great food and great company! We stayed at three other places, but the Green Valley Inn was the best of them!
