Beautiful hotel, luxurious facilities. Interesting location.

The hotel is beautiful. Public areas are gorgeous. Pool area was a real treat after a busy days sightseeing and it feels a luxurious environment. Room was spacious, modern and well equipped with smart TV and a large bed. Wonderful shower in the spacious bathroom. Our room had a lovely terrace area (although it did not seem to get sunshine at all). The hotel looks very new and is exceptionally clean. Staff were generally friendly and helpful. The downside is that the local neighbourhood has very few restaurants etc and is located in a very ‘authentic’ part of the Napoli region. We found a ‘pub’ nearby which served good burgers but other than that there were few options to eat within walking distance. The hotel restaurant is lovely but very expensive. There is a train line that runs behind the hotel which may disturb you if you are sensitive to noise. It is easy to get to from the local train station and once in the resort it is set back from the busy road so quiet on the whole. We had a lovely stay here. The only downside was when requesting a taxi (meaning a local car) we were given a ‘private’ taxi driver who then proceeded to overcharge us and extraordinary amount for a short trip to Pompeii. Over double what it should have been. We complained to the hotel but there was no real resolution for the overcharge. It’s a beautiful hotel but the location would put me off returning I think. I would look closer towards Sorrento (again somewhere along the train line for easy access from Napoli).

Villa La Colombaia

strange place to stay. Avoid it and stay elsewhere.

Reviewed By LyonHelen o

staff were nice. room was nice. We stayed from the 17 to 24 July in 2018. Its important to note that this establishments main economic activity is events. Every evening they had a different persons 18th birthday party or whatever. Even once a whole day was given over to a meeting for a local bank. On these occasions, ie every night, guests are NOT allowed to frequent the swimming pool. Basically its an events venue, that generates extra cash with room rentals. I do not recommend because hotel guests are definitely WAY DOWN in priority. Nowhere else have i been asked to leave the pool around 5 or 6 so the nightly parties could take place and even once in the day for a banking group meeting. Breakfast consists of what is left over from the previous nights celebrations. This is not really a hotel and i think most of the good reviews are from locals congratulationing the hotel on the good planning of their 18th birthday parties or whatever. We were there in high summer. If you want a hotel when they swimming pool is available all evening and guests are treated with respect stay elsewhere. Also forgot to mention that they charge money for locals to use the pools in the daytime. So basically when you do have the pool it is loaded with loads of locals and their children from the surrounding area escaping the heat, obviously during the day the pools very crowded with the heat obviously. Although i must say i met some very nice locals and the stay were extremely nice. The building itself is also nice. But really people should stay elsewhere. We never ate their in the evening as other reviews pointed indicated that the prices were very high for bugger all. Lots of good restaurants in naples though, as long as you have a car. Hotel guest avoid during the summer months.

Step into the past and experience another world while having modernity within reach

Reviewed By ROSEnMICK

A grand family home, almost like a museum, with wonderful paintings and antiques abound to study at leisure, many labelled to explain their dates and artists. The grounds are wonderful and all secure behind electric gates - we parked our car inside, though there was space on the street. Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable and our bathroom just outside the room. Other then air-conditioning, double glazing and new mattresses, the villa has had no obvious modernisation that we noticed, which is its charm! The villa has been in the same family for generations. The senior owners were constantly at hand to open the gates or fetch us a bottle of water etc. Madam prepares a modest breakfast with homemade local dishes for self service - they speak Italian with a smattering of English. Their son speaks perfect English but is not present full time. The location is within a 5 minute walk to the metro which will take you into Naples in 15 minutes (must visit the archeological museum). A 20 minute walk from the villa will take you to the ancient site of Herculanum. The streets are pleasant to walk through, if rough pavements, without stress, observing the local colour. We found people were very helpful when we asked for directions, going out of their way to assist. Note: though the villa is grand, Portici is far from a sophisticated area, though is cleaner and quieter than Naples. Each evening we walked to 'La Traditionne' restaurant where we ate and were treated like kings. We had booked 2 nights but changed this to 3, preferring to stay in a quiet area with a great restaurant rather than move into Naples. There are plenty of modern charmless hotels which all seem the same, there is isn't another like this!

Excellent value for money and great service

Mario was extremely helpful in arranging to meet us at the end of long day riding from Rome to Portici, then gave us suggestions for some good restaurants within walking distance. The room was very clean and quiet. The B&B is located in small unit complex that is secure and well maintained. We only stayed one night as a transit stop from Rome to Sorrento and was the alternative option that travelling into busy Naples i would recommend this as a great option for the budget conscious traveller that does not want to forego quality and cleanliness
