Calm tranquility, healing nature! Bellevue Forest Reserve in South Africa’s malaria-free Eastern Cape is a family-owned property comprising 2500 hectares of mountainous virgin forest with free-roaming wildlife within the Greater Addo area. Here, 165 bird species, buffalo, leopard, giraffe, eland, kudu, and other wildlife find refuge among some of the most scenic and wholesome landscapes to be found anywhere. We know you will too. A short drive from the renowned Addo Elephant National Park, guests are offered two significantly different experiences in the heart of nature – the gracious and elegant 4-star rated Elephant Lodge or the wildly romantic Stargazer Camp. The remarkably moderate climate and perfect orientation of the lodge ensures that cooling breezes keep the rooms airy, fresh, and comfortable even in the midst of summer. On hot days, a refreshing dip in our earth pool with its mineral-rich waters does wonders for the skin. Bellevue Forest reserve is more than a destination. We offer an immersive, connected experience – a discovery of the multi-faceted bounty of nature and a soul connection to the world around us. Our part of the Eastern Cape is water-scarce, and each raindrop is precious. Every care is taken to be as eco-friendly and water-wise as possible without sacrificing comfort, and to treat nature with extreme gentleness and respect. At Bellevue, we embrace ecologically friendly principles and responsible tourism for the benefit of our community, our country, and our future. We look forward to the opportunity of sharing this with you!
We could only stay one night at Bellevue Forest and would have loved to stay longer. The service was on an amazing standard and a friendly smile seen everywhere. The giraffe walk is a highlight in this region and we enjoyed it a lot.

Olaf and family have a unique vision to create a wild African experience. Sitting on our deck watching elephant, buffalo, Kudu, etc, on the plains of the Addo. Walking and cycling amongst the giraffe and various buck on his farm, listening to the lion roaring and grunting through the night.... What a great African bush experience. Rustic tented accomodation made it a fun family adventure and the super helpful hosts, made for a trip worth repeating! Also to add that the 'hop-in' guide that you can arrange for the Addo is a definite must aswell

At a time when conservation is of the utmost importance it’s a privilege to experience this first hand at Shamwari. Strongly recommend visiting both the Born Free big cat sanctuaries and the amazing Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.

We stayed for three nights and enjoyed every second of our time at The Safari Lodge. The individual rooms were simple but luxurious, the staff was exceptional, as were the meals and guided safari drives. If we could have stayed longer, we would have!

From leaving the house to reaching the lodge took us 36 hours, but worth every second. We had been to Shamwari 6 years ago and stayed at Eagles Crag, from then on that had been the holiday to beat. However, Sindile Lodge surpassed all expectations and is now easily top of our holiday charts. From being picked up at the park entrance by ranger Patrick (a major contributor to the experience), the holiday really began during the short trip to the lodge with sightings of Giraffe, zebra, gazelle and elephants en route. On arrival at the lodge the greeting was so friendly we felt like we were family returning home, this atmosphere remained for the whole visit. Our lodge was beautiful, I remember thinking instantly, I’m not going home. It was spacious, well designed with plenty of glass, most amazing views, we saw 4 of the big 5 from our room, Comfortable, clean and tidy, with a luxurious big four poster bed. The only problem is you really just do not get to spend much time in the room around the two daily game drives. The restaurant too was beautifully designed, with some amazing views of the area, we had a large male lion turn up outside during one meal. Food was A1 gorgeous, morning, noon and night, with the staff again being genuinely helpful and friendly throughout. We had two game drives a day, each lasting around three and half hours (absolutely flew by), seeing Lions, Elephants, Rhino, Giraffe, Zebra, Gazelle, Kudu etc, up close and personal but we always felt safe. We saw hunts, chases, Lions eating their prey and on one drive, a young Elephant covered in a fresh mud bath, tapped the front of our jeep with his trunk as if to remind us he lived there. Our guide Patrick was amazing, very friendly, knowledgeable and more than happy to go off road to search for the rarer and more obscure sightings. We also bumped into Mino the ranger from our previous visit, who again made us feel very welcome and VIP. It truly was the greatest experience of our lives, special thanks to Kanyisa, Xolelwa, Uleen, Shanel, Luvuyo, Wendy, Andrea, Ayanda and of course Patrick for making it so (apologies for anyone who I missed out only we lost our list of names).
