WHAT A JOKE! We spent a couple of days in this hotel. The hotel is a total MESS! It s not a hotel but a CONSTRUCTION SITE and no one ever told us there is work done! The service is terrible and the staff is really unfriendly. I would suggest to everyone to avoid this hotel! There is NO SPA but a tiny pool and a tiny tiny Jacuzzi: TOTAL CON!!!!

Through a gift voucher we discovered this charming resort in the middle of Alsace. Easy to find by car, we arrived beginning of the afternoon and after parking our car, we were warmly welcomed by the reception team. After a fast check-in we were brought to our room which was ready. The roam was big, very clean and all needed equipment was there and perfectly working. For sure it could more modern but it’s like the resort in the traditional regional style! We experienced the spa and could perfectly relax. In the evening we enjoyed a perfect menu in the gastronomic restaurant of the hotel. The food was excellent and the proposed wine by the sommelier were perfectly matching. Also the whole service team did a great job and they made that we had a perfect time. In the morning you will enjoy a nice breakfast with a big choice of warm and cold dishes and as in the evening with a great service. All in one, we only can recommend this hotel for one or more days.

L'Ami means friend in French and L'Ami Fritz is my best friend when in Alsace. Excelent week-end in October after some years away. There is a new house included named Sopfie after the owner. There you can have a large appartment for your self or a nice room with a private balcony.

I booked a nice room. When we arrived we found that the room was in an annexe some 100m away up a steep cobblestone road in the main hotel. My wife is disabled and there was no way she could walk that distance. The car parking was round a few corners and no easy to find unless you were familiar with the road layout. There was no resident receptionist. We had to push a button to talk to the main hotel. After waiting some while at the door a young man turned up in what looked like an electric golf buggy. He guided me to the car park and put the luggage in the front of the buggy. I had to sit behind on an open seat facing rearwards. The driver drove very violently. The buggy had phenomenal acceleration and I was lucky not to be thrown off the back. A ridiculous vehicle for transporting guests especially when driven like that. I asked to change my room for one in the main hotel. The only thing offered was one that seemed to be in another annexe connected internally to the main building but which was just within walking distance. It had a bath rather than a shower but having driven 650km I was tired and decided to accept it. I should have looked more closely and tried to follow the receptionist’s rambling about costs but didn’t expect what I was finally presented with. But firstly the room. On my cursory initial look, I hadn’t realised the the room was in the eaves. The bath was positioned such that you could only climb over the side sideways and you could barely sit up in it. No way could one use the shower facility as one could not stand up. The toilet was in another very small “cupboard” with totally ineffective ventilation and no window. The light came on with a sensor but if you sat on the throne for too long the light went out on you and you needed a lot of arm waving before the sensor finally decided to turn the light on again. Very unnerving. The bed was squashed into too small a space so there was no bedside table one side. I had to pull a chair close to the bed to place glass of water just within reach and hope I didn’t fall over it if I got up in the night. The room ventilation was poor. It was all recycled air. No fresh air intake at all. If you opened the window just a crack it shut the ventilation off. The evening meal was bizarre event. The dining room was semi partitioned. We were shown to a table in the larger part. Other diners as they arrived went to tables in the smaller part. We ordered our meal and to our surprise, before it arrived, two waiters busied themselves putting out serving tables wth spoons carving knife and other paraphernalia. We had only ordered the pork cutlets! I suppose this was meant to be a gourmet meal but it didn’t taste like it. None of the other diners had this attention. They seemed to have been given a different menu. A simple one. Why we weren’t offered it I don’t understand. When it came to the bill I was amazed and angry. I was charged much more for the ghastly room than for the luxury room I’d booked. I was also being charged 48 euros for breakfast. We had between us 4 croissants, 3 small glasses of orange juice and 3cups of coffee. Even the Ritz wouldn’t charge that. The booking had free breakfast. I challenged the bill and after a lot of argument had the breakfast charge removed. I should have been paid to stay in that awful room. Many of the young staff were pleasant. The receptionists weren’t. A dreadful experience. Avoid this hotel.

What we wanted was a hotel in the Ottrott area, from where we could do some hiking and have relatively easy access to local sights. From this perspective, we got what we wanted. We actually booked rooms at the Ami Fritz hotel in town (my wife stayed there recently and enjoyed the experience) and noted during the booking process that our room was in an annex, the "Aux Chants des Oiseaux" (ACO). We continued the booking anyway. Upon arrival at Ottrott, we picked up our keys at the lively Ami Fritz Hotel and headed down to the ACO. The driving directions are misleading, so it took a couple of u-turns to find the place. As far as we could tell, we were the only guests in the hotel annex that night (dead quiet and only our car in the car park). The room has A/C, a minibar and the WIFI worked quite well on the first night. The bed was a split mattress that drifted apart too easily. The wooden window frames rattled tremendously during a period of high winds - call it character! This hotel has lots of stairs and no lift/elevator, so beware if you have lots of luggage! We were staying for three nights, so the experience could be seen to evolve over those days. As more people arrived over, the hotel got quite a bit noisier and the WIFI slowed drastically. So overall an average experience.

Spent one night with two rooms at this peaceful hostelleerie. We had been here several years ago and found it by accident and had wanted to come back and stay. How often do you get to stay in a 1000 year old place of worship? The novelty was definitely a draw. The location is not on a beaten track but at the same time not difficult to get to if travelling from North to South on your way to the French alps. I would use this accommodation as a stop over but not as a particular destination. The hotel is basic. It is very clean, and they have modernized it, but it is basic. A bed, a bath and a crucifix on the wall is what to expect . The price is probably right but would have liked to have working wifi. The breakfast is an additional 12 euros and while satisfactory is about 6 euros to much. There is no coffee or tea service or kettle in the room. There is no TV or phone in the room. No big deal for us, but don't expect it. You will get to meditate, dive into a book or catch some good sleep. The bed was firm but very comfortable. Parking. Parking is a problem. Expect to totally get lucky or hike a ways to the the hotel. They should enforce the hotel parking they have as day tourist will use the parking spots as well. A bit of a hassle and a negative mark on the hotel. Wifi. Don't expect it to work. Had a very kind receptionist try to no avail to get us on line. Food. Plan on eating before arriving. They have a self help cantina (dining hall) but don't expect more than a liquid refreshment. While the signs say they have quick food, they seem to stop that service around 3pm despite signs stating differently¿?¿ like most restaurants in the region dinner starts around 7pm and for some this might be a bit late, particularly if you are just stopping on locations elsewhere If you want to hike in the surrounding hills there is plenty to explore. If you want a grand view from Mont Sainte Odile you will have it. If you want to say you slept in a monastery then you will have checked that box. Just set your expectations for simple, non technical (phone/computer) stay. Think they have a real neat venue, not convinced they have mastered the art of modern customer service and the modern traveller. This could be a destination location, but as it stands, it is best as a quick stop off for a quite nights sleep on a way to some other destination.

We stayed 2 nights with our baby in the hotel. I don’t understand why it’s only a 2 star hotel! It deserves much more. Very nice hotel, very comfortable spacious room, nice and helpful staff who provided us with a boiler and everything we needed for the baby. We will definitely stay there again when we go back to this area. Very much recommended!
