If you’re visiting Oberammergau in a year ending with zero, it’s all about the Passion Play. Villagers have performed it since the 17th century. It’s seven hours long (thankfully, with an intermission), and about half the townspeople participate in 100+ performances between May and October. And since hundreds of thousands are expected to attend over the course of those performances, if you’re in town, you’ll have company.

Hotel had a luxury look and feel, the room was big and well equipped, balcony, flat scren tv, bathtub, bathroom with glass wall to room and electric curtains to increase privacy. Breakfast was special, variety of different foods and drinks in small glass bottles and cups and all really tasty. Especially fresh honeycomb...i have never seen that before offered in any hotels! Hotel have a small day spa / sauna area downstairs witch is complimentary for guests and you should really try it out: special theme saunas, light & sound showers and relaxing room, uuhh! Service was superb, special thanks to breakfast lady who kindly helped us with gluten free food! If you travel by car, you can pre book garage space for your car. @ check out we received a little gift from hotel, a few small local jam jars, how cute is that! All that been said it was quite expensive stay for us, but it was worth every penny! This was very pleasant experience and we would definitely stay there again.

“Feeling well has a reason”. This is the motto of the Parkhotel Sonnenhof in Oberammergau. The Parkhotel Sonnenhof is a family owned hotel in the higher middle class, build 1977 in an alps - country style. The Parkhotel is located in the beautiful scenery of the Ammertal, on the outskirts of the village and right in front of the “Kofel”, the main mountain of Oberammergau which is inside the Ammergau Alps. Hiking, nordic walking, cycling or simply swimming and sun bathing - the possibilities are almost unlimited in the Ammergau Alps. In wintertime the Ammergau Alps offer a lot of activities - cross-country skiing, skiing, tobogganing, snowshoeing - the snow-sure situation of the Ammer Valley allow almost everything. The Bavarian fairy tale King Ludwig II is closely connected with the Ammergau Alps. Here stands his Linderhof Palace, the only one which he also lived for several years. Also castle Neuschwanstein which is just 45km away.
Stayed here mid May for the Passion Play. Nice suite with balcony and view of river and church. Stunning location! Excellent food and service. Would stay here again. 10 minute walk into town center and to the theater. Good parking and hotel is located near entrance into Oberammergau from direction of Ettal.

Firstly, the photo IS NOT of the Alte Postvilla. We spent 45 minutes, in the cold, pouring rain looking for the hotel that is depicted in this photo. Instead, we found a large, dark and looking abandoned, building with a small wooden sign leaned against it. When we finally found the "entrance " door, we very cautiously entered to find a dark, empty area. There were no lights. No receptionist. No people. It was very spooky and ominous. We contacted our agent in Canada. Using our flashlight, we observed a paper on the small, cluttered desk. It had our names listed. We stated yelling "Hello; anybody here?" several times. Finally, a man came down the dark hall and a motion light finally came on. The man stated that nobody was there, it's an apartment building and that we had to call the number to have someone come. I called 2 numbers which were not in service. I finally Googled the "establishment " and called the number that I found on a booking site. 20 minutes later, a woman arrived. The apartment was clean but very musty smelling. The bedroom window opened onto the entrance. I couldn't sleep because it felt like we had entered the Bates motel. Breakfast included? Sure...a bag with 4 rolls was hung on our door each morning at 7:30 and a package of cheese slices and salami were in the refrigerator. Not even a small soap or shampoo. I would never recommend this place.

With the Kofel Mountain as a backdrop the 'Posch' Hotel offers Bavarian hospitality featuring bright and airy contemporary accommodation. Our charming service includes a glass of wine by a cosy winter fire after using our wonderful saunato refreshing drinks on the patio by the pool. Rooms offer exceptional comfort levels. Our quality continental breakfast buffet delivers a wonderful daily start. On the doorstep is x-country skiing, cycling, hiking and walking trails. Oberammergau’s beautiful town centre a 4 minute walk.
The Posh hotel is situated just in outskirts of the inner part of the village. It is in a nice traditional building. There is of course no lifts so you have to carry your bags one or two stairs up. Our room had a very nice view over the mountains that surrounds the village. It also had access to a large balcony. The room was rather simple, and the pluming was not OK. The water in the wash basin took a very long time to disappear and it was hard to get a decent temperature on the shower and it was not stable. You had also shower in a bathtub that I dislike. The breakfast was just OK and the dinner was dull and not very tasty.

Location 10 minutes' walk away from the station according to their website, 13 mins. according to Google, but if you are not a professional athlete and have any luggage, it's about 20 minutes or more. The bedside lamp by my bunk didn't work. I reported it to reception, who promised to have it fixed. They never did -during my entire week-long stay. The en-suite bathroom stank chronically, as if something were rotting out of sight, and the smell would waft out and take over the whole dorm. The only way to prevent this was by making sure the bathroom door was always kept shut. I didn't report it because I reasoned that if they couldn't change a lightbulb, they're unlikely to manage plumbing. No drinking glasses at breakfast, even on request -you are supposed to drink water out of mugs, which I intensely dislike, because their policy is not to provide drinking glasses in the interest of safety. Likewise, no trays. You need to bring food to your table plate by plate -and the plates are small, side plates, not dinner-size. Again, it's a house policy. On my last day I asked them to print a train ticket. They refused without as much as an explanation, but probably for the sake of cybersecurity. Still, nowhere near top customer service! I have decided (maybe generously) to give them an overall "two star" rating because, in spite of everything, my room was quite spacious, access is relatively easy, and I enjoyed the international TV channels in the (tiny) adults-only room.

Warm Welcome at the Landhotel Böld Oberammergau! With naturalness and warmth, we create the atmosphere, which is necessary to fulfill the high expectations of our guests think. * With relish sleeping under our 4-star sky * Fine Dining in our restaurant or conservatory * Creative days in a rural idyll In our hotel you will live with all the amenities you could wish for in a family-run, is very important in the hospitality. Our rooms are spread over 2 wings of the hotel. The country-style rooms feature amenities such as satellite TV, radio, telephone, wireless, or LAN connection, desk, safe, minibar and some have a balcony or terrace. All rooms are Non smoking rooms. Our hotel offers a total of 52 Non smoking rooms including 7 suites and allergy sufferers and rooms for disabled guests.
Hotel is on a fairly busy street, and seems to be a bit away from the center of town, but the walk is not even 5 min. Not sure why it is called romantic, certainly 1-2 buses of tourists a day from the likes of Globus tours do not convey any impression of romantic seclusion. We booked superior room for 2, and were situated in a top floor suite of the old building with the bedroom, living room, and a large balcony, overlooking a river and Kofel mountain. The suite was large, although the usable space was limited by sharply slanted ceilings. N.B.: There is no AC, and the heat is by radiators, which are controlled by the hotel, you can not just turn them on when you get cold. As mentioned by many, internet is disastrous, we had no signal in our room. It is annoying, there are only 2 amateur-level routers for the entire building, nowadays it only takes a couple of hundred bucks to improve, but I guess the owners do not read Tripadvisor. Breakfast was pretty good, if you compare it with US chain hotels, but certainly not what you would expect in a reasonable European hotel which bills itself as high-end and romantic. The service people are reasonably friendly. but the note in the room informed us that the bed linens are changed every 3rd day, unless you pay extra E5 a day, and if the linens get too dirty - they will charge you E80 extra. Very romantic! Overall, it was a good base for us to explore the area, but I would only stay there again during the moderate temperature season, and only if I get a good deal

With its first-rate facilities, the Hotel Alte Post is theperfect accomodation for all visitors to Oberammergau, whether for vacation or business. There are many sightseeing activities nearby, the Passionplaytheater is a five-minute walk away and there are a variety of shops in the pedestrian zone right outside the front door.Day trips to the nearby castles of Linderhof andNeuschwanstein bring the royal flair of Ludwig II tothe present. The cheese dairy and distillery in Ettal Abbey are definitely worth a visit.
À hotel that could be getting à better score if the employees was sent off to a School where they can learn politeness and guest service. Room was good With great Size and clean. Breakfast was overall ok, unfortunately they did not refill the hot food, the cheese was old as it was dry and hard. I would recommend to search for another hotel.

Come and be dazzled by our many facets, both cultural an natural. Enjoy!
I stayed again in Wittelsbach for business. Reasons to come back were the comfortable rooms, good breakfast buffet and above all the friendly staff. All boxes were ticked again. Hope in June they will have rooms available during the Passion plays season.

We were impressed by the friendly hotel staff, the personal attention from the owner/manager (who is in the 2022 play as a soldier) and the breakfast ladies. Sadly we only stayed one night after seeing the passion play but enjoyed being right in the heart of the village with a magnificent view from our balcony. The breakfast was a good range of quality items.

This is a beautiful hotel right next to train & bus station, short 5 minutes walk to Passion Theatre and centre of town and a mini mart at the petrol station opposite the hotel (which opens till 10pm while we were there). We had a junior suite - a huge corner room with separate sitting area, fridge and mountain views. The staff members were friendly and helpful and food (breakfast & dinner) there was good. Given the peak Passion Play period, I felt that the price was reasonable for a junior suite. We were lucky to be able to secure a room there as the town was mostly booked up and whatever is available had higher price tags. Free parking is available on the hotel premises. There are more than sufficient power sockets in the room. But note that there is no elevator or air conditioning. There's shared balcony areas at 2 ends of the building where you could sit and enjoy the mountain view. Overall we are very satisfied with our stay and it is nice to be able to walk back to the hotel for a short rest during the 3 hour Passion Play break.
