One of the main attractions in Nagano is Zenkō-ji, a colorful 7th-century Buddhist temple with proud architecture and a humbling presence. The compound contains lovely gardens, a treasure house, sacred statues and a massive incense burner. Kids will love the “ancient” appeal of the Chausuyama Dinosaur Park, adjacent to the Nagano Chausuyama Zoo. Test your stealth skills at the Chibikko Ninja Village, then reward your hard work with a tasting tour at the Nishi-no-Mon sake brewery.

A very big hotel. We had only a small room, but it was ok. There is a restaurant in the topfloor with excellent view, we didn’t go there. Its at walking distance to Zenko Ji and Nagano Station. Very friendly staff. We stayed two nights, because of the snow-monkeys. Its a quiet part of town, with cute little shops. I can imagine that during winter this place is more alive.

I stayed for one night at the Hotel Metropolitan - a great place for business or pleasure. Being located next to the station and the Midori shopping centre, location and convenience scores high, and the rooms although a little simple are comfortable. The shower and bathroom was very clean and modern. Excellent price and particularly during the goto campaign this makes for a nice spot to stay for a short trip.

I really enjoyed staying here. The room was comfortable with nice furnishings. The room temperature was good. Check in was a little awkward, not sure why it’s automated when there were three staff manning reception. But everyone was friendly. Good location right near train station.

Hotel
We stayed with the family two days in this nice hotel, that is centrally located in Nagano. The rooms are modern and clean. The onsen is great. One outside, one inside, a cold bath and a sauna. Between 21:30-23:00 you get a complementary ramen soup in the restaurant. We arrived in the weekend, and than it is not possible to reach the hotel by car. We had to walk with our luggage 5 minutes. Minus: no English speaking staff or English information. We had a lost in translation situation.

For those of you driving along the Shinetsu highway you cannot miss Royal Hotel Nagano, located in an old castle town close to the Matsushiro castle ruins. This area is rich in history and local legends.Royal Hotel Nagano is a nice and spacious hotel boasting 35 square metre rooms, with free Wi-Fi and an open air hot spring! Matsushiro town also has many tourist spots, so for those who don't have access to personal transport there are plenty of places that can be reached on foot.
The official name of the hotel is Daiwa Royal Hotel Nagano. A very large hotel with good sized rooms. Large banquet rooms for large groups. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast with a good selection of Japanese and Western food. The French Toast was very popular. The Chinese food we had for dinner was better than average. The hotel is clean and the view was great from the room. But the location is a little out of the way from everything. Near the highway so it would be convenient for travelers passing through. There was a shop and cafe but no convenience store.

The location is really good which is one minute walking distance (across the bridge) to JR Nagano Station. Room is clean and neat. A lots of amenities around the hotel like convenience shop (seven eleven) just beside hotel, Mi Do Ri Dept Store (inside Nagano station), restaurants and many mores. What I did not like about this hotel : the room is small, double bed also small for us (2adults + 1 young child), old hotel with old furniture, only tea sachets provided as complementary drink.

Just what u need for a short stay. Bed quite short for two persons (120cm) . Its very close to the JR Station and middle way to the 2 places u need to visit in Nagano. Breakfast was japanese. Its not the typical tourist hotel. Its the one that the japanese workers use. 4 stars instead 5 because they need to renew some furniture.

Ok hotel. It is fairly clean. But was isn't in Japan. Room was OK, everything was OK, just not great. Thye had breakfast, guess what, it was OK, barely. I would go again if in town and it was the only thing we could find in the price range. I guess about 10 minute walk to the train station.
