Comfortable

Basic, but comfortable. No hairdryer though. Very clean and tidy. The room we had was quite large. A comfy chair would have been nice as I do not like sitting in bed watching TV in evening. Could also do with bigger bedside shelf, and USB sockets

Stayed here for a treat. Executive room was worn. Bed damaged - the slats fell through. Chair arm was ripped and the balcony hadn’t been cleaned. The layout was lovely but it needed updating. Pool was ok and breakfast was gorgeous. For £195 for a night I was expecting more luxury. Deffo needs an upgrade

A beautiful place to stay!

Reviewed By John S

Our family of 6 stayed in Cottage 1 last week and I can’t praise the whole experience too highly. Our hosts Kath and Mike, together with all the rest of the staff, couldn’t have been more friendly and welcoming. My wife Joan was born in the area and her brother lives nearby so the rapport was instant! The cottage was warm and comfortable and was well provisioned when we arrived. Breakfast was first class with plenty of choice. There was plenty of parking and you’re in easy walking distance of 2 pubs. Thank you for a lovely stay! Joan & John

The Tiger Inn

What a gem!

Reviewed By TommySangers

My family and I had been to Treharris in the morning and came to Merthyr Tydfil in search of somewhere to eat. Thankfully we found The Tiger Inn. What a find. A gem of a place! Seek this spot out. Go out of your way for it. It’s worth it. The staff are so nice and the lady in charge is a ray of sunshine! So friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. If having wonderful staff is not reason enough to seek it out then the food certainly is. There was so much I wanted to try but in the end went with a traditionally Welsh lamb cawl. Spot on. Served with a chunk of bread and a wedge of cheese plus real butter. Just what I needed. We also shared the camembert loaf - one of the best things I’ve eaten in yonks! I live in Somerset UK bit would travel here again just for that! You won’t regret a trip here - check this place out.

Excellent bike friendly B&B

Reviewed By TobyAnscombe

My daughter and I stayed for a weekend so we could hit Bike Park Wales. Nikki and Gethin’s hospitality really is second to none; very accommodating and the attention to detail was stupendous! We stayed in the (red) family room which was well kitted out and included muscle-relaxing shower gel (its like they knew that I would be suffering on Sunday!). Beds were super-comfy and the room was equipped with a decent TV and all the apps etc. Breakfast was pre-ordered to make life easier; a very tasty bacon sandwich and toast, as well as juice and much coffee. The recommendations on where to eat in the evening was spot on (Thai in Brecon) as was the suggestion of a nice short-cut walk to the waterfalls in the area. We didn't need it but there is secure bike storage should you bring your own. 100% will be back - there is a promise of chili chocolate so y'know.. highly recommended as a base to explore the area on foot or by bike

Studios at Glenthorne offer self-contained, serviced, studio apartments securely located within a fine Victorian house. Each studio has a beautifully appointed modern kitchen with fridge, washing machine, microwave and convection oven, along with all of the crockery and cutlery you could want during your stay. Tea and coffee are complementary, along with shampoo, shower-gel and hand wash. The Studios also have a drying and ironing facility. The tasteful and relaxing Studios have flat screen free view TV with DVD, USB connection and HDMI (10 metre cable provided), along with a double bed, a comfy sofa bed and a dining table. WiFi access is free and reliable. If you would like us to provide your breakfast, we offer a delicious continental breakfast of yoghurt, croissants, jam & marmalade, granola and fresh juice. We provide secure bike storage, as well as washing facilities for your bikes. Glenthorne is a no smoking establishment. Sadly, we cannot accommodate guest's pet (as we have our own!). At present there is no wheelchair access to the Studios, although Studio 1 is on the ground floor.

Spotlessly clean, beautiful decor and helpful hosts - location not ideal for us

Reviewed By Ailurophile1

We stayed at Glenthorne for two nights recently we had a double room with an ensuite which was beautifully decorated, it was spotlessly clean and although we didn't meet the hosts due to covid Claire was available via text to give recommendations. Genthorne is a very quiet house we hardly heard a noise during out stay. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom had high quality toiltries and there was complimentary welsh cakes, milk and water in the room which was a really nice welcoming touch. We stayed here to hike up Pen Y Fan and it was an ideal location in terms of distance its around a 20 minute drive and although we made the most of our stay I wouldn't be in a rush to return to this area of Wales. The Reasons I have given the review very good instead of excellent are as follows When booking the room I was made aware that there was no parking but it stated that the parking on the road was unrestricted however we did find that the cul de sac was too busy to park in and the next road had quiet a bit of double yellows and dipped curves which made it difficult. We did struggle to park nearby but eventually found parking on the road but given the area and the busy road it wasn't ideal. The town itself is very run down as we drove through the centre to look for a nice place to have a couple of drinks or some food we where shocked at the atmosphere in the town there was bouncers on all the pub doors and lots of drunk people falling in and out of pubs. Coming from Birmingham it takes a lot for me to consider somewhere unsafe or even unpleasant but we actually stayed in both nights because the local pubs looked so rough. I would say if you are looking for a nice base to stay and stay in on an evening and chill out in your room this place is ideal but if you are hoping to go to a nice area, with nice cafes, restraunts pubs etc I wouldn't recommend. The location really put a dampener on our weekend away and I wish I had realised how run down the local area was before learning the hard was and having a disappointing weekend compared to what I had in mind.
