The Tambopata Research Center (TRC) is a comfortable 24 bedroom lodge. Because of its remote location in the uninhabited wilderness, housing stable populations of endangered wildlife, the small scale of its infrastructure and operations and the presence of researchers and naturalist guides, Tambopata Research Center is an excellent headquarters for in-depth explorations of Amazonian nature and wildlife giving you the opportunity of unique wildlife encounters such as 35% chances to see a jaguar, 67% chances to see a troop of spider monkeys and its paradise of scarlet macaws. It is the only one located in a half-hectare clearing in the middle of the uninhabited portion of the Tambopata National Reserve, less than a kilometer from the two world's largest and most diverse macaw clay lick. The Tambopata Research Center is now only 4.5 hours away from Puerto Maldonado taking 1 hour by bus plus 3.5 hours by boat. The experience includes all land and river transportation from /to Puerto Maldonado airport, a set of activities and excursions that you can choose from, all meals and accommodation.
My son, my brother, and I visited TRC in May. We all agreed it was one of the highlights of our trip to Peru. We had an amazing room with an outdoor seating area and an outdoor shower and bathtub. The days can get a little warm, but the nights are cool and we slept well under the mosquito nets. The included food was great and we looked forward to our meals. The bar was a nice spot to sit and wind down after a day of touring/hiking. Jair, our guide, was amazing. He knows the rainforest well and spotted so many animals. He took many pictures for us. it was great getting to know him and the other guests in our group. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend this lodge and company.

Green House Tambopata is a local tour operator who has acomodations (LOCAL HOUSE ) near the Tambopata National Reserve and among the TAMBOPATA river. We have really nice views and landscapes from our place and a lot of chance to see wildlife from our hammocks at the same time we offer excursions, hikes, birdwatching activities, outdoorsport as kayaking, tree climbing, piranha fishing, lake Sandoval, Chuncho clay lick. Usually we spent most of the days inside the jungle, always with very kind and knowledgeable guides who want to make sure our travellers get a nice jungle experience At the same time our main office provide full day excursions for all travellers who came from all hotels in Puerto Maldonado.
Let’s just start by saying that I had an incredible trip. From the airport pickup, which was on time, to the ride to the lodge, Charlie was welcoming, enthusiastic and extremely informative. The trip was nonstop action, which was great cause we didn’t have time to get bored. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and very friendly and open to talking about everything. The food was absolutely incredible, as well, and that’s sayin a lot for me. I can’t wait to go back!

Refugio Amazonas is a charming 32 bedroom lodge, it is well placed immediately adjacent to the Tambopata National Reserve. Its location is ideal for stand-alone three-night experiences and for breaking the expeditions to and from Tambopata Research Center. Refugio Amazonas is built on a 200-hectare private reserve on the buffer zone of the Tambopata National Reserve. It is becoming integrated into the communities of Brazil nut extractors that surround it, attempting to extend the benefits of ecotourism to the families committed to sustainable forest use. At Refugio Amazonas, all our guest can choose from a wide variety of excursions and activities including soft adventure, nature hikes and cool science.
I came here originally in 2007. I unfortunately forgot my camera battery in Lima and dropped my disposable camera in the Tambopata river on my last day. So had no photos to remember the trip. But I recalled that my stay here was the highlight of my trip. So I decided to come back again. It was still as wonderful as I recall it. But I understand that animals have become more comfortable with people and so I saw far more than I did the first time. The food is still amazing despite the limitations. They now also have hot water and electric sockets in each room. And even WiFi with very decent speed. A stay here is a unique and special experience. I’m not a particular fan of bugs but forcing myself to immerse myself in nature seems to be a form of mental liberation. Special thanks to Tanya for her hosting. We always felt so welcomed. And to Lucy for being such a great guide. I do recommend attending the daily pre-dinner biology presentation. We only went to one on the last day and regretted not going to more. Ps I note a recent review about bed bugs. We fortunately didn’t have this issue and so should not be an issue for travellers from now.

Posada Amazonas is a 30 bedroom lodge owned by the Native Community of Infierno and managed by Rainforest Expeditions. Thanks to its accessibility, the lodge offers excellent wildlife observation opportunities, cultural context, and comfortable accommodations. It is located within the territory of the Infierno Community, built within the 10,000 hectares, private, communal reserve, which in turn is directly adjacent to the Tambopata National Reserve. At Posada Amazonas, you are able to get amazing wildlife encounters
What an experience!!! Mariella was excellent to work with for our reservations, she was so very patient and answered my million questions. Oscar, our guide, was very knowledgeable. He tried to accommodate as many activities as possible in our short time at the lodge. All the staff from the manager, to Brian (bar tender), cook, everyone tried their best to give guests a comfortable and memorable stay. The logistics - reservation, travel between airport and hotel, planned activities was very efficient. The resort itself is gorgeous, it was hard to believe the availability of that kind of accommodation and excellent food and service at such a remote location. I would definitely recommend.

We opted for a 3day/2night tour & stay & wish we'd have been able to stay longer. Transport was arranged from the airport and Lucho made us feel at home and safe from the moment we arrived. Juan was polite, helpful and fed us with beautiful food. The lodge is comfortable and well maintained, a paradise in the middle of nature. Our walking tours on the first day were breathtaking and we saw amazing wildlife. A well organised lake trip on day 2 and our final morning, whilst disrupted by rain, was fantastic to see the birds under the morning sun. Lucho and Juan could not have done any more to make us feel welcome and like family. This really is a must do if you are visiting peru. I am missing my time there already. THANK YOU LUCHO!

Inadvertently stranded in Puerto Maldonado due to a plane breakdown and ended up spending a couple of nights here. Very basic but functional and clean. Reasonable provision for Covid and a surprisingly excellent breakfast.
