Lapland holiday

Reviewed By Karlijn47

During our camper Lapland holiday we stayed for 2 nights at this camperplace. It's a nice and clean camping with very good facilities, for ladies and gents separated showers, toilets and sauna. The wifi around the reception was okay, but on our camperplace we had only sometimes internet. We also had diner in the restaurant, not much choice, but what we ordered was very good. The service was excellent. We ordered 2 glasses of pinot grigio wine, € 13,00 each. But, that's a normal price in a Scandinavian restaurant. For my husband a main and a desert. For me a starter and a desert. My husband had : oxe and dragon with several grilled vegetables, very good, and 2 boles of vanilla ice cream with wild berries, also good. For me: slices of salmon with wasabi mayo and salad, excellent, merenque with lemon-cream and wild berries, very tastefull. At last a cup of coffee with a truffle. We had a wonderfull diner.

Nature at its ultimate

Reviewed By SubhadeepDas83

The camp is situated around 25 kms from Kiruna in the midst of nature. There is forest around and is definitely a must place for a nature lover. The entry to the camp is a bit tricky (though you have sign board) from the highway. I was there in the coldest time of the winter but I think summer will be beautiful as well. It is just beside the river, which was completely frozen and we viewed the northern lights just from the room through the glass (though the intensity was very less). Most important point for this camp, please travel with all your necessary item (food, drinks etc) as there is nothing nearby.

Been so looking forward to this trip - and it delivered. Very comfortable lodge to stay in, warm, cosy, lovely breakfasts and very smiley, easy going staff. All our activities were so enjoyable and no messing around. Everything prompt and organised with us having nothing to worry about. Mikka on the snowmobiles was superb and the husky dog sled my favourite. I love snow and quiet places so perfect location and exactly what I wanted it to be. So glad I stayed here and not in a 'fancy' hotel

Maybe a good Hostel but a poor Hotel

Reviewed By JoanaBraz

SPIS is a hotel/hostel in Kiruna that I can’t recommend. PROS: - SPIS is in the city center of Kiruna near to the best restaurants and bars in town (this could change in the near future since part of the city is being moved); - They offer a good breakfast with a variety of typical scandinavian offerings from cheese and meat to smoked salmon and herring;Inside the hotel has a pretty good restaurant with delicious food; - Also inside, SPIS provides a small deli with awesome cheeses, bread, chocolates among others. - The double bedrooms have a cool vibe and the bed is comfortable. CONS: - This space it’s called ‘SPIS Hotel & Hostel’ and maybe it could be a good hostel but is a really poor hotel; - The rooms have terrible soundproofing, it’s possible to hear every single movement and noises of the neighbors; - The rooms layout are incomprehensible. A typical layout would have the bathroom of one room near to the bathroom of the next room. The bathroom of our neighbors was next to our bed, which didn’t had any frame to soundproof a little bit; - SPIS doesn’t provide a phone in the room, if you need something from the reception you have to go down the stairs and ask. This is not a game changer but could be a nice touch; - The hotel doesn't have enough breakfast space to accommodate all its guests. This is critical in any situation but specially when you have hungry guests that have strict schedules to attend. One day after waiting 10/15 min. for a vacay table we asked if the hotel had another room. The lady working that day said that they were full at the moment but we could go to the small commun kitchen 30/40 meters down a corridor. I said no, firstly because the breakfast it’s a buffet so it's a bit ridiculous to walk up and down the corridor to grab food, and I didn’t pay to be in a kitchen eating breakfast. We ended up at the counter of the hotel check in (which by the way is in the same place as the restaurant and breakfast room) eating breakfast because at that point we only had 30 min left to eat. What hotel does that? I understand that SPIS space is limited but the management could implement a schedule breakfast time for each room in order to avoid crows and unpleasant situations; - A lot of times guests had to ask the staff at breakfast to clean vacay tables and to replenish food. We sense a lack of efficiency during this period; - In the middle of Lapland where the temperature can drop to -30 degrees Celsius, this hotel doesn’t provide in the room an electric kettle for do it yourself warm drinks; - SPIS has also a lounge area (which is common to the hotel and the restaurant) where typically they sell an amazing variety of beers and wines but if you arrive during lunch time they will not serve you any alcoholic drinks, bedside water, coffee or tea. Like I stated before SPIS will probably change to the new city center. I believe that they have an unique opportunity to reshape their business model and take in consideration the CONS that their guests stated. I would start with the name. It's confusing! Are we booking a hostel or a hotel? You can't have a hotel with hostel standards, either you have a good hostel or a good hotel and right now you have an awful hotel. But SPIS could change in the near future. I hope it does change!

Great budget hotel in Kiruna.

Reviewed By citizen132002

This hotel was around half of the rest in Kiruna. It was basic and perfectly OK for one night that we stayed in the beginning of January. Located close to Kiruna downtown it is a walking distance to a few restaurants. Room was an ok size with quite a small double bed but with a small balcony which would be a plus for if you stay there in summer. All hotels in Kiruna downtown will be demolished and moved soon, so there is no point in renovating or improvement at this stage. Would recommend Kebne for no thrills stay at competitive price.

Snowmobile tour in beautiful surroundings

Reviewed By Hilde S

We ordered snowmobile tour online for Camp Alta. We stayed at Camp Ripan, but we were picked up and had free transport to Camp Alta. We were a party of four and had 2 snowmobiles for a day. Cassie was our wonderful guide. We drove around on a nearby frozen lake, through a forrest, and to the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi. We had 3 hours at the Icehotel on our own, which was amazing. Our boys (both 14 years old also loved this tour, it was the highlight of everything, they said when we came home) What a beautiful landscape and surroundings. So idyllic. Maybe next time we come to Kiruna we’ll stay at Camp Alta, it look so cosy there. Thank you so much for making this day magical for us!

Reindeer Lodge

A cosy cabin accommodation in Sámi design nestled in the forest outside Jukkasjärvi in Kiruna Swedish Lapland. Arctic wildlife and reindeer are the natural residents next door during winter and if one is fortunate the northern lights will give a glorious display. During summer the midnight sun will brighten up day and night. Breakfast is included in stay. Joint self-catering facility for other meals. Easy to add activities like reindeer sledding or Sámi storytelling night; or book a package.

Comfort and beauty

Reviewed By AdventureGirlTx

We loved staying at the Reindeer lodge! The cottage was idyllic with a wood stove to keep warm, and access to another log cabin for food preparation and separate buildings for showers and bathrooms. Falling asleep to the crackling of the wood fire, just delightful. The rooms also include electric heaters and a fridge so you will always be warm. A lovely breakfast was available each morning, along with very friendly and helpful staff. We really enjoyed being able to use the cooking facilities ourselves in the evening. The facilities are run by Nutti Sámi Siida, a family run Sami company who organize experiences based on Sámi culture. They offer this special lodging close to reindeer so there are opportunities to interact with these lovely animals. During the reindeer encounter we learned about the relationship between the reindeer and the Sámi people, were able to feed the reindeer and also experience reindeer sled racing. We really enjoyed learning about Sami culture with Sara our guide while she prepared a traditional meal of flat bread, fried reindeer meat and lingon berries. It was a fun experience and we really enjoyed getting to know Sara and hearing her stories. I would definitely stay at the Reindeer lodge again and highly recommend it to others!
