Plato’s is set in the heart of Kirkby Lonsdale - once discovered never forgotten. On the edge of the Lake District, are the Dales and The Forest of Bowland. A pretty little market town set in the Lune Valley with wonderful walking, stunning views, and really good shopping. As a boutique hotel, we understand that one of the joys of going away is to have a touch more luxury than you do at home. So that is why in our higgledy-piggledy old building, we have made sure that every room is unique. The only thing that is standard is comfort - the ultra-luxury Vi-Spring beds, the crisp cotton linen, the stacks of fluffy white towels, the state-of-the-art flatscreen TVs, the luxurious en suite bathrooms some with baths and others with rainfall showers, gorgeous local Bath House toiletries. All prices are per room per night and include our sumptuous breakfast which is served until 10 am so you really can have a lazy lie-in (and check out on the day of departure is 11 am). We are so excited to launch our new menus and be the first wine bar in Kirkby Lonsdale to embrace the vibe of social dining. Whilst sitting in a relaxed atmosphere, Plato’s will be offering sharing boards and smaller plates, featuring the absolute best in locally sourced charcuterie, cheese, breads, vegetarian options, and desserts to die for! These will be served alongside fine wines, our famous cocktail menu, local draught, and craft beers, and an excellent selection of quality spirits.
We stayed in a standard room, not large but tastefully decorated. Comfortable bed and pillows. Bathroom superb, with state-of-the-art shower and lovely fluffy towels. Tea/coffee/bottled water/chocolate drink and choc bars replaced every day, which was great. Food: Can't praise the breakfast or the staff serving it enough. Our choices were the gorgeous home-made grenola to start, with wonderful Cumbrian fried breakfast to follow and on another day smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and granary toast. Couldn't believe the size of the portions. Didn't eat dinner in the hotel. Menu has recently changed. No hot food, only platters of cold meat, cheese etc. Would have loved steak or fish, but not what we thought was essentially a lunchtime meal. Staff: At all times they were helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Generally, it was clear that attention to detail was the owners' No. 1 priority. We felt we were staying in a hotel where everyone cared about the guests' comfort, not always the case. Platos only has eight rooms, so the place never feels overcrowded with guests. However , it's a different matter in the bar and restaurant area which is open to the public and was heaving and noisy on all three nights we were there. Obviously, Platos is THE place to be in Kirkby Lonsdale. There was the occasional bit of noise from the street but to be expected as Platos is bang in the middle of a busy town. A few minor grumbles: Our room (Room 6) seemed to be rather stuffy most of the time, as was the corridor outside. This wasn't the case with any other corridor. Maybe it was because we were on the top floor. We arranged our stay through booking.com. We had to change our dates twice in rapid succesion because we were timing our trip to coincide with the arrival of our latest grandchild (our daughter lives nearby). Having finally settled on a date with booking.com a few weeks later we then TWICE received emails from them saying we had cancelled our stay at Platos completely. This necessitated two calls by us to Platos to assure them we hadn't cancelled. Rather irritating. Won't use booking. com again. All in all, a five star experience. Would recommend Platos to anyone.

Had a lovely 2 night stay at this hotel - 2 adults and 2 dogs. It's full of character, staff were great. Our room (2) was a delight. Large bedroom and lovely large, modern bathroom. It's popular with locals and guests alike. Always full of hustle and bustle. Dogs were made very welcome

Hipping Hall is a modern country restaurant with 4 AA Rosette dining and luxuriously appointed bedrooms.Sitting between the beautiful English Lake District and the rugged Yorkshire Dales, Hipping Hall is the perfect venue to explore the very best of what the North-West has to offer.
My partner and I stayed for two nights as part of my 50th birthday. Accommodation lovely but if you class left over mackerel (which seems to be the main dish no matter breakfast or dinner), salmon or sausages from breakfast slopped on a plate as fine dining that’s fine. Also ice cream had ice in it so obviously defrosted several times. Such a shame as the waitress was lovely but definitely won’t be recommending to anyone. They said it was due to newly opening Mondays however if you can’t provide what you clearly promise DONT DO IT. There were some lovely places nearby we could have quite happily gone to if we’d have known (which we had seen and wanted to try). Bye bye and Won’t Be Back

One of the longest standing Taverns in Kirkby Lonsdale. A traditional English country inn, with the core values of comfort, quality and service. We strive to provide the best personal service we can. This is your traditional pub, re-invented.
Been to the Snooty Fox a few times previously and all good but visited for lunch on the 3rd June and ordering was a nightmare. It took four separate occasions to get our Order correct and even then it was still not exactly what we ordered which meant we all ate at different times. No checking at all for allergies either. Had to remind the staff for one of our drinks. Had to ask for condiments. Massive breakdown of communication between the bar and the kitchen. The whole occasion spoiled by this shoddy service. We were offered one free dessert but felt a little insulted by this. Double check your Order with the staff if you visit. We will be eating elsewhere in the future which is a shame as the food was generally ok!

Perfect suite and the host Carol was brilliant. Loved the Hot-Tub that was fresh and cleaned before we arrived. I went for a weekend away after I got married and the room had rose petals on the bed, complimentary bottle of cooled preseco and alcohol and soft drinks in the fridge. TV in the bath/shower room went down well too. Close to the amazing village and walks I will definitely be going again.

I popped in one evening for a meal while staying in Kirkby Lonsdale. Quaint I think think is how's best to describe The Copper Kettle. Good honest home cooking, great service, great price. Timeless & no frills.

We had a mobile home nearby in the 1990’s and our family bought us a family reunion for our Christmas gift. We really enjoyed the trip down memory lane and the area did not disappoint. We agreed not to spoil the whole thing by whingeing about the hotel although that is what it deserved, The owner has clearly fallen on hard times (covid etc) I sympathise with him but other places nearby seem to be thriving . The main advertising hoarding on the main road still shows the words ‘food all day’ . It is clearly designed to mislead since it takes no money or effort to blank it off. The place was dark, freezing and largely empty of guests although the car park showed resigldentscwere present . Maybe they chose to stay in their rooms or went somewhere warm. Not bad judges, in my view. The hiotel building is locked overnight tolill 0800 . The owner had a nice cracking fire on a night in an area next to the bar where he sat nice and snug in front of the fire. We occupied a hrs Le bext to the fire on night 3 of a 6 night stay. He never lit tye fire again. So the place is facility-less, food-less, warmth-less and cheerless The companies who provide star rankings for our guidance should be ashamed. Bill Gardiner

The Barbon Inn and Restaurant near Kirkby Lonsdale has been around since the 1650s and started life as a farmhouse. Situated in the peaceful and tranquil village of Barbon, this country inn offers old world elegance in its accommodation restaurant and pub. The Barbon serves traditional English cuisine with a modern twist. Specialty dishes using local produce with choices like confit duck leg served with dauphinoise potatoes, sautéed leeks and a rich blackberry sauce; menu choices change with the seasons. The inn has an excellent wine list which has been a labour of love for one of the owners, and she will help you select from the connoisseurs list. The Barbon Inn has 10 bedrooms one with a four-poster bed. It’s located halfway between the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park which makes it the perfect base for exploring both. The pastoral feel is added to by a local racetrack that holds the Barbon Hill Climb.
We were told to visit this lovely pub. I can’t believe that we come to Kirkby Lonsdale nearly every weekend and have not come across the Barbon Inn. The welcome from all the staff was lovely, the food and drinks excellent and very dog friendly too which is always a plus. Bertie even got a treat . Lovely beer garden out the back which is peaceful, full of beautiful flowers, a place where you could sit all day after a long walk. They have rooms too which we are going to book so we can enjoy the beer garden for longer next time.

Beautiful Sunday lunch which was piping hot. The pub has just reopened after a six week refurbishment and the decor was very nice indeed. The service was excellent, the staff being very welcoming and friendly. Will definitely return either for a meal or to stay in one of their updated rooms.
