We stayed here for one night only, after a long day starting in Adelaide and sight seeing Kangaroo Island. The hotel had booked us in for an evening meal, as we arrived around 6:00pm and there are no other options from this venue. The hotel itself is a little dated, but still stylish and comfortable. Our bed was comfortable but the shower had limited water flow- understandable of an island with a shortage of water. Our evening meal was tasty - abalone and a cheese platter with a bottle of local wine. Breakfast was from a set menu and was served in good time. My only issue with the hotel is that it is rather isolated. American River is not a large community and from what I saw one had no option but to dine at the restaurant- ok for us as we were only there one night! There are a couple of short walks around the hotel as well. A quick wander down to the water was all we had time for.

We were transferred to this hotel for one night when our ferry was cancelled. It was great that they were able to accommodate our group at short notice. Our room was comfortable but a little lack lustre. Dinner was delicious - the pasta with chilli and capers. The hotel is in Kingscote which is a good sized little town, however we arrived after dark and left early the next morning, so barely got to see the water! It’s still a distance from the ferry, which needs to be factored in when travelling. However if you were to stay for a few nights there would be options for dining

This awesome little motel is an absolute gem. We are lovers of mid-century modern architecture and were fortunate to stay in the 2 bedroom ocean view apartment. It was renovated beautifully and was modern but in keeping with its mid-century modern heritage. Everything was provided. Sukin products in the bathroom were an added bonus. Well situated across from the beach and within working distance to the pub, cafe and shops

Our villas are in a secure gated compound in an elevated position overlooking the bay and clifftop reserve a short walk to the town centre, playground and jetties. They are recently completed and designed with energy efficiency in mind so are comfortable in all seasons. Each villa is self contained with full kitchens, laundries and lockup garages with direct access to the living areas.
The property was presented excellently, many little things that when added together were really appreciated . The breakfast provisions, the bed, the parking, TV, comfortable chairs and cleanliness. Also the position near the beach and easy to find. Also the hosts were friendly and helpful.

I will start at the good points, great views from the balcony and room, over American River, unfortunately, that is it. Now for our experience. Check in - walk upstairs to reception past cobwebbed dirty windows and tired building. Oh yes reception was a whiteboard with your name on it, room number and key in the door. Wifi - 2 passwords provided on the whiteboard , neither of them worked. Restaurant - forget it unless you happen to be there Wednesday night! Rooms - tired and dated in need of some love and care. Room was clean with good views. Heating was good, bathroom was clean but dated. Staff - what staff? There for 4 nights and my wife thinks she may have caught a glimpse of a staff member one day, it could also have been another guest. They did manage to replenish our toilet paper supply by putting two rolls on the ground outside our unit. Don’t do it - stay elsewhere.

After staying in Penneshaw for the week & being curious about Penneshaw Beach stay travelling past each day we were ready to leave saying - we must check that place out. Then … in came the weather, no ferry we were stuck! Nowhere to stay we were so lucky to be picked off the list of many enquires & offered a room for the night. So comfortable, quality linen, very clean and modernised, plenty of space for 3 adults & a child, great touches of fridge, microwave, tea & coffee & fantastic location. Easy walk to supermarket, eateries etc. The owners were so friendly & kind. It’ll be on the list for a return trip for sure and we will never forget how fortunate we were. Thank you

Such a beautiful spot to stay and incredible hosts. The place was spotless and much more independent than we imagined, we had a beautiful balcony that was not shared as each has their own. Has everything you need including a coffee machine, cooking basics, etc. we loved the view from the bedroom and lounge room overlooking the bay and beautiful trees. Very quiet and serene but not too isolated which is always a bonus. We ended up extending our stay as we loved it so much. Thank you both for hosting us. Try to get to KI tru (thai food) on a Thursday night, definitely worth a visit, thanks for the recommendation.
