Flamingos and pelicans and herons…oh my! Holbox Island is beloved by bird nerds for its population of exotic avian life. Perched near the Yucatan Peninsula, the island is also a hot spot for whale shark viewing, and kiteboarders love the shallow waters and wide beaches. The white sand streets are relatively unspoiled, as most tourists prefer to party it up in nearby Cancun. A splash in Yalahao Lagoon is about as loco as it gets.

El Corazon Boutique Hotel at Holbox, Mexico is an adults only hotel with an eco-friendly concept. For us, helping to preserve the ecology of this lovely island is essential. Therefore all our mattresses are made of bamboo, which helps maintain a cooler temperature than polyester and the sheets are 100% cotton. Also the cleaning products we use are biodegradable and the personal hygiene products in all rooms are organic, produced in the surroundings of the island and we provide them in recyclable containers, since we have a 0% policy on plastics consumption. Most of the energy we use comes from solar panels and the entire luminaire is energy efficient. The structures are like the typical holboxeño style, cement moldings and natural palapa roofs. Also, most of the furniture is made of recycled wood. El Corazon Boutique Hotel is located in the hotel zone, just one block away from the beach. We have eleven rooms, so we can provide a personalized service in a family atmosphere. We have three different room styles to satisfy our guests needs with the best amenities; Two Executive Suites with private terrace, wide and louminous, both rooms are equipped with king-size beds, large showers for couples to enjoy their privacy and the tranquility of the place. In the common areas you can relax in the hammocks or enjoy our breakfast at the terrace with an incredible view of the surroundings of the island. At El Corazon Boutique Hotel, we offer the comfort and service you need to make your stay at Holbox a dream come true.
We stayed 3 nights and loved every minute! I was so sad to leave and carry on our travels. The rooms are super clean and nicely decorated. I love how it was surrounded with trees and cosy fairy lights. I didn’t see anywhere else I’d of preferred to stay. We walked everywhere and you can access the beach from lots of different ways. The only negative I could think of is the rooms are quite dark, but only when it comes to getting ready for the evening. Melisa on reception was so amazing at organising anything we needed & was pretty much 24/7 assisting on WhatsApp. The waiter at breakfast was so cute too we loved him! I’ll never forget this magical tropical paradise

Mystique Blue Holbox, a contemporary, luxurious, and exquisite boutique beachfront resort, is located on the exotic Island of Holbox. This small paradisiac 26-mile island is within the protected Yum Balam nature reserve at the north of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
My mom and I stayed a week here and it far exceeded our expectations. The hotel is simple and classic with elegant touches. The room was very comfortable, the the view of the ocean from the balcony was a nice touch. The rooftop terrace wasn't as useful as I'd hoped. There were a few families with young children, but the vibe was very adult oriented which was a plus. Great food and drink. I would highly recommend and we will be back. This is a solid 4 star property with luxurious touches. A nice upgrade in Holbox.

From the moment we arrived we felt like we chilled out and decompressed. Warm welcome from front desk staff and the room was great. Lot's of character with laid back Mexican feel and a rustic look. Good bed, great air con and good sized bathroom. Liked the stone basin. Food excellent and drinks also great. The barmen liked to suggest a different cocktail for us to try most days and they were always spot on! The outside space is what Holbox is all about and the palm trees and green plants all over the property are fabulous to enjoy and give it a lush sort of feel. Swimming pool was spotless and the amazing beach is right outside. The town is a nice walk away or if you hire a golf cart a short ride away. Definitely a special place and somewhere we'd say everyone should try once.

The Beachfront Hotel La Palapa is a romantic hotel for adults only that is located on Holbox Island in the Yucatan Peninsula, Gulf of Mexico. We offer an incomparable setting with 25 comfortable rooms at literally feet away from the white sandy beach and tourquoise water. The Beach Bar with lounge chairs and hammocks allows to relax on the quiet beach.
What can I say about hotel LaPalapa? Being that I made my third trip to Holbox, I did not hesitate to reserve here and know everything will go above and beyond expected. Was here in May for 6 nights and everything went flawlessly, the breakfasts were all amazing, the attention that Facundo and staff gave us was on point and he very charming. Everyone is always with a smile. You can tell these people like to work here. All our days were sunny and very warm, as most days, we had the beach all to ourselves. There was no zargazo (seaweed) but yes some type of sea-grass which was minimal. The sunsets as always, amazing to watch and did not miss any of them, just be aware , once that sun goes down, the mosquitoes come out. Rocio in the reception area was so nice and super helpful with all my inquiries, as the other staff members that I could not remember there names. (So sorry).- The room was huge and was cleaned daily by the cleaning staff and always with a surprise placement of the towels in different ocean related themes. A very nice touch. There was some loud music coming from the Hot Corner bar I suspect, but for me , it was tolerable, it wasn’t crazy loud. And it wasn’t every night. I can deal with that. I can’t recommend this hotel enough, it is an adults only hotel, just to have that in mind. So try to keep this a secret, but from what I saw, the word is out, since I noticed more people and more new places opening up. That special “island charm” it used to have is slowly dying away, which is sad to see. Hopefully it won’t kill off Holbox like the crowds in Tulum and Playa. Still, I’m already looking forward to my next trip to this beautiful island, it’s people, food, sunsets and the hospitality of hotel LaPalapa. Enjoy .-

Welcome to Holboxdream, your second home on Holbox Island. The main objective of our hotel is to make your visit as relaxing and enjoyable as possible, which is the reason so many Ambassadors (guests) keep coming back year after year. The rooms include air conditioning, free internet, ceiling fan, a private bathroom with shower and organic honey, aloe and oatmeal amenities, so you can enjoy your rest with comfort. We want the whole family to experience a tropical escape, so your pets are welcome with an additional cost! Enjoy the beach club with access to the sea, sun umbrellas, restaurant and bar or relax in our pool.
First the location, the beach and the room are nice. But for the price, we could expect a less basic breakfast and warm water in the shower. Also we paid extra fee for a room with large balcony and jacuzzi that we cannot use because of the raccoons. It is messy and dirty all the time even if the hotel cleans. We can understand it is an island problem but since we cannot use it they should not charge people for the balcony ! It is just a rip off and false advertisement.

It was lovely to go back to Palapas Holbox for a second time. It's a very relaxed environment and the hotel is a beautiful place to spend time at, especially with your loved one! Romantic strolls along the beach followed by fabulous dinner at the hotel! What could be better? We loved the private pool outside the room which we used every day and liked the simplicity of the decoration in the room. Air conditioning worked very well and they were good beds. Top marks all round from us. Holbox is a quiet place to visit if you're used to a Cancun type of place, but for us it was very special and definitely worth the journey.

Our stay at Tierra Del Mar was absolutely amazing. The property is beautiful and very well kept, the rooms are spacious with a good bed and all the necessary amenities and it’s really a quiet “paradise” in the center of the island. Christian, the owner, is very friendly and ready to help out (I lost my phone on the way to the hotel during the rocky golf cart ride from the port - he managed to activate the Holbox taxi drivers to look for it, with success!! ) and has good tips for restaurants, beach clubs and other nice locations. I’d highly recommend staying here when visiting Holbox, we would absolutely return!

The property features 29 beautifully decorated bungalows; all of them with a stunning ocean view.
I really have to start by saying there is a lot to love about this property! It's unique and on the best stretch of beach on Holbox that I could tell. Karina (I think that was her name) was a wonderful hostess and coordinated our golf cart rental, transportation and massage. She made all the difference in our stay and I hope the hotel knows they're lucky to have her on staff. We stayed in Cacao (#8). It was adorable! It had a large patio with a stunning view. (A little couch or something else besides the two very low chairs would be a nice touch) I was a little caught off guard when we checked in to see zero closet or drawer space, but we made it work (they had hangers on hooks and spots to hang your swimwear and one luggage rack. For an average of $400 a night, this room was tiny, but the view was what you're paying for in my opinion. (We stayed a week so it was a bit tight for that long of a stay, but we managed) The shower in this room was the most unpleasant shower ever and I can't recall ever including the shower in a review. It felt like you were being waterboarded. Just awful. I'm not sure if all of the rooms have the same log/tree limb showerhead concept or just this room, but again, awful. I don't have high expectations on hotel showers, but this was ridiculous. So we got past the zero clothing space and waterboarding shower right away and loved the place! On our 2nd full day there, we woke up to find the island had a water supply issue from the mainland that was under repair. The water at the hotel was off. No showers, no washing your hands with running water. We asked what may have been another manager (a male) how long we could expect it to be out. He said about 30 minutes. This was Tuesday a.m. He completely lied to us about what was going on. We later found out that the water issue had been going on for a few days and they kept it to themselves "so the guests didn't worry". Had guests been made aware, perhaps they could have conserved the water. We certainly would have. We would have appreciated having a heads up things would be changing with the repairs happening. When we realized the water repair wasn't happening in half hour and we had been lied to about it, we spoke with Karina. My husband is in water maintenance such as this for a living so when she honestly told us of the situation, we finally had a reasonable way to frame our expectations on what to expect and how long it might take. She made all the difference in this situation and handled the entire situation with such grace! The hotel's three pools were also drained (water used to flush?) so we couldn't use the pools which is a large part of why we picked this property. This was not uncommon and we saw it at other hotels. Though Caracol - very close to Flamingo - didn't have a water issue during this time according to others who stayed there the same time we were (bigger water reserve). Some hotels had water time slots, some didn't. Most places had water to wash your hands - very few didn't. On this island, cell phones don't know well and it's very well known. Yet, the hotel decided to alert people via text as to the designated times the water would be on (7:00 a.m. - 9:-00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.) We obviously we didn't receive the text notifications about the water time slots. Perhaps a sign posted might have been a better option knowing guests don't have working cell phones? A note on your door? (We finally received WhatsApp notification when the water was fixed and back on) We were traveling with others who stayed somewhere else, so they had to work around our shower schedule a few evenings for our dinner plans and ideally we would have been out of the hotel for the evening in time to enjoy sunset cocktails and dinner. Before 8:00 or so. Again, not the end of the world, just a little frustrating, but we could tell they were doing their best. This lasted for two and a half full days. Some restaurants in town were not open due to it a few days in, but many spots were. Locals told us they didn't have water at home. It's an island so these things happen - but be prepared for how your hotel, wherever it may be, handles it and what your comfort level is. They did comp a few things for us in good faith due to the issues they had when we were there which we appreciated. The staff at the restaurant, bar, and throughout the whole property, were very friendly. Good drinks at the hotel, breakfasts were fine. The cerviche was outstanding. We had tacos here and were underwhelmed. The massages were divine, so be sure to book a spa treatment! What I really liked about it here was that there was no rush to save your beach chairs even when the property was sold out. And despite it being full, you wouldn't notice. Things are spread out and rooms aren't on top of each other. There were plenty of beach chairs/loungers throughout the property and it wasn't a beach club where non-guests were using hotel chairs. The property was quiet (and so peaceful in the evenings!) and a nice retreat from a day of exploring. We didn't see many children here - we saw a few but it's not a property that caters to kids. Do bring a flashlight if you're walking to/from the other spots down the beach. It's pitch black at night and a walk up a few large rocks to access the property and we saw a snake nearby at one point. You'll want to be sure you can see where you're going after a few margaritas! We can't tell if it was something from the hotel or not, but my husband ended up with a stomach issue while we were there that he's still dealing with. I can't help but wonder if the staff had access to hot water to wash their hands. We still had breakfast here as well as cocktails and lunch one day during the water outage. At the time we assumed the staff had hot water for hand washing, but we also were told the problem would be resolved in half hour, so our confidence is a little low in that department. My feelings on this property is very mixed. I don't blame the property for an island wide issued, so I would recommend this property to someone looking for a beautiful property with a quiet setting and stellar view. In fact, I recommended it to someone just this afternoon. If we return to lovely Holbox, we would try another property and mainly because I love experiencing new hotels. Perhaps Villa Flamingos will upgrade their water reservoir to make the island challenges a bit easier. Muchas gracias to Karina for her hospitality and to all the others who made our stay lovely. All in all, this is a fabulous property!

Great hotel! We had a junior suite, it was lovingly and hygenically furnished in every detail. Room service cleaned every day on request, changed towels, washed dishes and took out trash. They always responded to additional requests. The hotel is 50m from the beach and beach towels are included. On the roof there is a bar, pool and relaxation area. The bartender is very nice and makes great drinks. Sunset-view is a amazing from the rooftop pool. The hotel is a bit away from the center but within 5min walking distance. In general, the service of the hotel is GREAT! Particularly noteworthy is Victor! A great person who cares lovingly for each and every guest. He has excellent tips and is very helpful. We liked it so much that we even extended our stay by 3 days (again, Victor took care of everything). Thank you Casa Astral Luxury Hotel! Thank you Victor and team! :)
