Beautiful historic place

Reviewed By thanhtuan35

My wife and I drove here after overnight hiking from Trolltunga. It’s such a beautiful historic place. The view was amazing. The check in was easy. Buffet breakfast was good. It’s an old building so it showed wear and tear. Bed was super comfy. My wife is very picky in terms of bedding. And she slept very well on the bed here. Parking was small but manageable.

Wondering Guesthouse

We had a wonderful experience at Hardanger Guesthouse. The location is ideal and the views are incredible. The host went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful stay. The rooms are comfortable and contain all the necessities. Since we were visiting during the off season, the restaurants in the area all close pretty early. The host kindly made us a late night dinner. The pizza and burgers were surprisingly good! The breakfast also exceeded my expectations. The facilities were nice. The game/TV room was an added bonus. We appreciated the ample seating outside so we could take in every minute of the view. I big thank you to our host who made our trip even more enjoyable and memorable!

Eidfjord Fjell & Fjord Hotel

This is a small private hotel with local knowledge. We have newly renovated public areas with a modern design. Our slogan is translated to "No worries - just fine" Good restaurant with local tastes and flexible staff. Welcome.

Great straff, really good service and a select menu with several clear winners.

We we’re driving from Bergen to Oslo and passed through Eidfjord at approx. 1800; and decided for the hotell on the hill in the centre of town for our choice of restaurant. We we’re lucky to get a table. You should order in advance. And after explaining our itinerary The waitress suggested a first course to give the kitchen time to prepare the main course. Marvelous first course of Norwegian specialties with a crisp local apple cider. Tjen followed a beautifully steamed salmon, two sirloin steaks fried just as asked (one medium and on3 rare), and a good burger with real minced beef and a fine pickled red onion added a twang to it. Apple cake was really something with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream, and the pannacotta in a jar was up to The standard. Quick service at The table, any waitress or waiter would be over if we stirred. Coffee hot from the pot. This place knops what service and hospitality is, and performs betone and above The call of duty.

Faded glory?

Reviewed By jessicapJ6130SS

Mixed feelings, but this place sadly smacks of faded glory. Glory comes in abundance: the location is other worldly, at the edge of the most beautiful fjord. The hotel offers a blast of fresh air, stunning views, peace and tranquility, and a “paradise at the end of the world” feel. There are no words to describe the beauty of the surrounding area. How lucky to have a hotel in such a prime and secret location! However, in itself, the hotel lacks attention… to detail, to the building and sadly also (we found) to guests. For example, the room was good enough. Beautiful views, clean, tidy, TV. In the downside, the mattress was wafer thin, to the point that we could feel every single spring underneath! And the room was cold - no heating on - and this was all the more noticeable with wooden floors. But ok, we were snug in bed for much of the time spent in the room and could live with that. One feature is that the hotel boasts a sauna/hot tub/fitness centre. We got the feeling that these have not been used in quite a while - quite possibly, in light of covid - and that things are a bit neglected. Maybe good to point out that we visited at the very beginning of the tourist season, so it could be that maintenance work was yet to be planned/started. It must be said that we had such an amazing time outside in the sauna/tub. The sun was shining, not a cloud in the sky, and stunning views! One thing we noticed is that there is no safety rail for the hot tub. Access is by means of steep wooden steps. This is fine for the nimble, yet potentially dangerous for people of a certain age, suffering with balance issues or simply left feeling a bit wobbly after a long day/heat of the sauna. Similarly, guests are expected to shower before taking a sauna/hot tub…. but the outdoor shower does not work. It is broken… doesn’t even have taps… so how to do that? There were no bathrobes in the rooms and we were not offered any when making our booking for the spa facilities - perhaps we should have asked? Who knows…? Then there is the restaurant: after a long day of driving, we were ravenous and there seemed little other option in the area for food, and so we took advantage of the restaurant at the hotel. Some trip advisor reviews were good, but mine will not be, I am sorry to say. On the evening of our stay, only a fixed menu was available. We were not told the price, but asked for it: NOK 500 for a three-course menu. Norway is not a inexpensive country, we realise that, but that is steep when the food at the hotel was so unimpressive. We could have done better at home, frankly speaking. Clearly leftover chicken served up in a bowl with a leaf or two of lettuce as a starter. It tasted of nothing, was tiny in portion and we were not even offered some bread to go with it. Main dish was a(n uncooked) risotto with turkey. Mediocre to say the very least, and again a tiny, tiny portion. Dessert came in the form of a lemon meringue, but I have an allergy to eggs… and was offered no alternative, just the bill. The house wine cost NOK 500 for the bottle. Which is a bit steep, and especially given that the waiter spilled a good glug of it on the table when serving! So in all, we ended up spending €150 equivalent for an evening meal that left us feeling disappointed and hungry. As a further comment, a tour group had checked in for the evening, and we got the feeling that all eyes were on them, that perhaps the hotel was under observation for rating purposes by the organisers: the group and travel guides received plenty of attention from staff in terms of fuss, detail, bread and butter, and alternatives to the set menu, such as ice cream and so on. By way of contrast. we felt unimportant and overlooked, and no paying guest likes to feel this. I realise that this review is by far the most critical I have ever written on TripAdvisor: possibly because I have walked away feeling the most disappointed from any previous experience/stay. Hotel Brakanes has so much beauty and so much potential and I felt cheated out of what should have been a spectacular experience! I hope very much that this was a one-off hiccup, and that others will get to enjoy their stay far more.

Trolltunga Hotel

Trolltunga Hotel is situated in the heart of the Town of Outdoorlife, Odda in Hardanger. Our focus is on sustainability, to express the unique history of the area, to create a relaxing atmosphere and to use local producers both furnishings, food and drinks. The beautiful villa building from 1928 was renovated in 2017, with a newly built wing from 2016. In 2021, even more rooms were in at a brand new floor at the added wing, as well as a spectacular restaurant made of glass in front of the hotel. The interior is a combination of Nordic, modern and retro, but since we are so privileged regarding surroundings – mountains, waterfalls and glacier water - the view out to the beautiful nature is the main interior. While taking in the impression of the mighty Opo River right outside the windows our team strives to offer a place where everyone of our guests can recharge their batteries.

Beautiful countryside hotel

Excellent reception staff and restaurant waiter. Local dishes on menu, served with a smile. Hotel rooms are.... small. Hotel is from the 1920, so this is no 5 star plastic hotel, but you get an autenitic experience. Be sure to order local cider when here. World class.
