This port city of about 275,000 on Spain’s north coast began 3,000 years ago as a fishing village. Today it’s a departure point for regional cruises, making it busy in summer (and making us wonder what those ancient fisherman would have thought of cruise ships). The original village, Cimadevilla, with its narrow, cobblestone streets, draws many tourists, and Cerro de Santa Catalina park at the tip of Cimadevilla’s peninsula provides great coastal views.

The four-star NH Gijon hotel sits at the start of the promenade that runs along the pristine Playa de San Lorenzo.
This is the perfect hotel for a getaway in Gijon. They are truly “dog friendly,” having a warm sense of welcome. The hotel is situated in an excellent location, just steps from the beach and the city center. Would definitely repeat.

Reserved a Superior Club Room and was not disappointed . Room Very Spacious and being on a corner had windows on both sides so room had lots of light. Bathroom was very large with a huge Spa Bath. The room was clean and maintained very tidy and exactly as we expected having stayed at other Silken Hotels. Reception Staff were very friendly and helpful. Car Parking was ideal and for Spain had very large Parking Spaces. Dined one night in the Hotel Restaurant which was average pasta dish was cold when served but quickly rectified. Staff appeared to be under pressure. Breakfast was very good with lots of items available on the buffet. Staff arranged for an omelette to be cooked to my specification. Would sty there again.

We stayed here just one night, in April 2022. The hotel is very nice, if the decor is slightly outdated. Or maybe is just an antique air. Our room (614) was e-normous. It had a reception, a living room, a very large bedroom and two bathrooms, one en-suite. Everything very clean. We didn't try the breakfast because our flight was very early. The location is excellent, right in the center, very close to the old harbour, where there are many places to eat and drink. My only complaint is that, in Booking.com at least, the hotel seems to suggest they have parking, but they do not. There is a PUBLIC parking very close which costs 18€/night. The said parking, in turn, announces they charge only 9€/night, but that is only if you pay through their app, which doesn't work.

This hotel starts poorly with inadequate car parking - and strangely car registration numbers are not requested at reception. Room was large and generally very good. The restaurant though was often very cold, with people adding clothing as the meal continued. The food itself was very ordinary and on occasion not well cooked. Staff numbers were short in all areas except reception - which was well manned. The location is probably this parador's one plus that it has going for it.

The hotel do not feel like a Melia or a 4 star. There is damage on baths, rooms are small, facilities not well maintained. Gym equipment was old a had missing parts, no ventilation, working out for a short period and the CO2 reader will raise to 800 plus. Looking back i wish i have book an other hotel for the stay, i book this as i was specting a Melia and 4 star experience.

The Môderne Hotel is located in downtown Gijon, in the fashionable gastronomic area of the city. It has 47 rooms (21 doubles and 26 junior suites). Gym, rooftop sun terrace and Champagne Bar where you can enjoy breakfast (until 10:30) and any drink from 11:00 Public parking guarded (rate € 13.00 / day)
What can I say? We had the most wonderful time at the beautifully appointed "El Moderne" Hotel in Gijon, quite simply one of the best city hotel I have ever stayed. We stayed in one of the Junior suites with a Terrace (in fact it had 2 terraces!) and the room was nothing short of spectacular. Everything from the bedroom situated in one of the circular original stone turrets, to the enormous walk-in shower room but certainly the highlight were the beautiful terraces. One with 2 sun beds and the other with a dinning table with electrically operated sun blinds....large enough to hold a party of 20 or more people!! (future note for non -covid times!) We will absolutely stay here again and repeat in the same room (603 incidently). Also the room service is extremely reasonably priced. I would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful hotel. Elida and her professional team make you feel extremely welcome and safe during these uncertain times. I recommend you pick up the phone now and book room 603...you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended.

The hotel is very nice and modern. The staff is excellent. Breakfast is good. Parking is free and on site. Only 20 minutes on foot to main center. Bus and taxi also available. My biggest issue is the air conditioner is turned off and our room was a sauna. I do not understand why the hotels in Spain turn off their air conditioners in March. You cannot leave the window open because of the noise and the lights. The sun was cooking our room at sunrise. The outside temp was in the high 40’s and 50’s but you wouldn’t know it in the hotbox room. Terrible disservice to their guests especially gold elite members. BEWARE OF HOTELS THAT HAVE NO AIR CONDITIONING TURNED ON

I loved this hotel where I stayed 2 nights while walking the Camino de Santiago del Norte route. The reception staff are super. They speak good English and are cheerful and very helpful. The hotel seems fairly new or at least newly renovated. The lift was small but adequate. My room felt modern and clean. It had twin beds which is not my favourite configuration but I was willing to accept that to be able to book the second night at short notice. The bed was also a little firm for my taste. There was a small desk and chair and a closet that contained a safe. Natural light came from a large skylight. The bathroom was fairly standard with the shower over a tub. The wifi worked really well with a strong, stable signal. I had breakfast one morning and it was excellent and well worth the very reasonable cost. Lots of choices of bread and pastries, cereal, cheese, ham, fruit and jams plus tea and coffee. The restaurant also serves coffee and drinks during the day and has a few tables on the street. The hotel is right in the centre of the city making it easy to walk anywhere. It is obviously very popular as shown by it being full on my second night and rightly so. Highly recommended.

The modern Abba Playa Gijón is situated next to Inglés Park, 165 ft from San Lorenzo Beach. It features an outdoor swimming pool with a sun terrace. The rooms at Abba Gijón enjoy views of San Lorenzo Beach, Isabel La Católica Park or the pool. Each is equipped with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom with amenities. Guests have access to a fitness center, sauna, jacuzzi and Turkish bath. Massage treatments are available and there is a free towel service from the front desk. Castiello Golf club is 3 miles from Abba Playa. The center of Gijón is 5 minutes away by car and Asturias Airport is less than 30 miles away.
After an unfortunate choice of a hotel in Santander the previous 2 nights, we welcomed our stay at the ABBA Playa hotel, not right on the beach but just across the highway from it. The room was spacious and modern, with a comfortable bed (2 twins together, as it often the case in Spain). Hotel parking was not included in the price, but there was a free public parking lot across the street, which we took advantage of. The beach stretched on forever, with extreme high and low tides, and it was an easy walk to streets full of sweet little restaurants. Gijon as a town is not that interesting, but it boasts a really lovely beach. ABBA also has a rooftop bar with great music and a very nice view of the beach -- we went there before dinner for an aperitif and after dinner for a nightcap. Oh, and every time you order another drink, more snacks come with it. Would highly recommend this hotel.

In reception are 3 bikes, one and one skate longboard cruiser for guests to enjoy walking Gijon in an ecological, sustainable way and very funny.
Great service at one of the coziest environments I've been in years in Gijón. You can feel immediately the efforts behind the handcrafted woods and african textiles the owners are using to design the atmosphere themselves to make you feel like home. Definitely a place to have a great rest or read a nice book after a great day of beach, surf and asturian gastronomy. Definitely on my list for the next visit! Wish so many owners have the same philosophy! Thanks
