Ghanzi is known as the gateway to the Kalahari, which is part of the huge sand basin that reaches from the Orange River up to Angola, in the West to Namibia and in the east to Zimbabwe. Because it lies close to the Gaborone – Maun – Namibia fork in the Trans-Kalahari Highway, it is convenient stopover for all three. Ghanzi is also known as the cattle and game ranching capital of Botswana and situated in its heart, is Kalahari Arms Hotel. We have facilities to suit the need of every traveler – family rooms, executive rooms, en-suite chalets or you can pitch your tent on one of the campsites. The restaurant offers meals from all around the world designed to satisfy taste buds. The bar stocks a variety of mature wines and beverages.
Excellent option for business travel. Clean, great service and the rooms are tastefully decorated and clean. The refurbished property is got a warm city hotel feel, and the more traditional thatch rooms give options to those looking for the more traditional type of lodging. The WiFi was particularly good, and the rooms were quiet . The bar area quiet lively with a lot of guests having drinks and socializing after dinner which was a full buffet.

Dont expect too much from rural areas in Botswana. That is my little experience. Stayed for one night while passing through. Free and safe parking. Free wifi. The room is very clean with brand new sheets. The building seems a little bit old, especially the bathroom. The price, 65 usd/ngt is quite high when compared with other guesthouses all around the world, but it is normal in Botswana.

Deception Valley Lodge, an oasis in the Kalahari of Botswana. Experience the Kalahari with Bushman at hand, to share their knowledge, while you can relax in total luxury at this unique destination.
When we arrived at the lodge we were immediatly blown away by the stunning location and the kindness of the staff. After a delicious dinner we sat down in front of the cabin and were fascinated by the quietness and the sight of thousands of stars in the sky. The gamedrives under surveillance of our very friendly guide conveniently nicknamed ‘knowledge’ were astonishing. Since the lodge is located in the middle of the premises the animals were all around us. While sitting in the various comfortable chairs and couches on the deck next to the main lodgebuilding, where we had dinner and breakfast every day, we could observe a waterhole where the animals were able to drink. Everyday there was different wildlife there; giraffes, a lonely elephant, 100+ wildebeasts, lions, zebras, gemsboks, … The icing on top of the cake was watching the sundown at the end of every gamedrive. The guide and the spotter brought some drinks and snacks which, combined with their amaible personalities, made for an evening filled with animalfacts, humour and relaxation. In short, we had a great time and wish we could have stayed longer! - Noah & Petra

Grassland Bushman Lodge is located northeast of Ghanzi about 80Km. Because of our unique location, immense land size, and proper management, you are likely to see more Kalahari game at Grassland Safaris than any other safari outfitter. For a real awesome cultural experience with the San (Bushman) Grassland Bushman Lodge is a must! There is a San village very close to Grassland lodge with very warm friendly Bushmen that are eager to show guests their survival skills! The Lodge is also running a very good predator project, with lions, leopards and wild dogs.At Grassland Bushman Lodge you will be amazed by the comfortable chalets, dining facilities, and hospitable staff. Grassland has eight extremely well furnished chalets, each with their own en-suite bathrooms, beds, closets, and dresser amenities. Each facility has constant hot water and your laundry is done daily at no extra cost. Our meals are extraordinary, well prepared, and a far cry above most other safari outfits. We provide 3 meals a day, snacks, mid-day tea and dessert, cold drinks, wine, and a fully stocked bar for evening nightcapsAnother unique aspect of our camp is our large swimming pool. Guests thoroughly enjoy taking a soothing swim after a long day of game drives and cultural walks.Likewise, guests often enjoy sitting by the bricked fire pit and watch as hundreds of animals come in at dusk to feed by the large illuminated water pan a mere 50 yards away.
Our stay at Grasslands was a wonderful debut to a 12 day trip to Botswana. The lodge accommodations are lovely and comfortable and have that 'old school' vibe that makes for a romantic memory of African Safaris. The staff and lodge manager were all very nice, fun and happy to provide real Botswanan menus that included Kudu and Eland game meat. All of it delicious. They were generous in every sense of the word. Our game drives were quite successful and we saw about 20 different kinds of animal including 2 rhinos. The bushman walk was interesting and information though a bit staged, however it would be difficult to have a true encounter with the San people otherwise. Over all, our 4 days when Grasslands was a fabulous introduction to desert life.

Best accommodation in Southern Africa! We stayed at Palm Afrique in Ghanzi for 3 weeks and it was the most enjoyable experience I’ve had in a very long time. The hosts, Bertie & Sonia were so accommodating and met our every needs and more! The food was exceptional, I definitely picked up a few kilos after our trip. Couldn’t get enough of the food. The quiet setting and beautiful scenery surrounding the lodge with wild game all over, a private game drive is one of the activities we made use of regularly. We were really looked after, I can’t wait to come back with my family and friends next time I’m in Botswana.

Rosey is an old lady who has set up this guest house as a retirement project. She lives on the premises and is up before dawn daily to switch on the hot water and start preparing breakfast. Various young women (family members?) are also around during the day. The house is well built and the rooms are clean, with unusual and rather flowery names rather than numbers. Aptly enough, I was put in the 'Forever Young' room. We did not find the breakfast of a hard boiled egg, a frankfurter and toast quite to our liking, but Rosey was fine with us taking some porridge oats into the kitchen and cooking for ourselves. She also provided juice, yoghurt and bananas at breakfast. No other meals are provided, but the Kalahari Arms hotel is about ten minutes' walk away, so we strolled over there in the evening for our supper. Some signboards in the streets leading to the place would help, but a few questions to passers-by enabled us to find it. There is reasonably good internet, and I was impressed that we were able to pay by credit card without any problem. Overall we liked the homely atmosphere and would be very happy to stay there again.

great little budget resting place, decent rooms and facilities and lots of mozzies so take enough spray with. good bush food and a hearty breakfast. only complaint i would have is for them to sort out their admin, its quite a daunting task of settling your food and drinks bill.
