Breakfast is typical Chinese style - can get quite busy with tour groups. Overall, alright for me - room is clean, modern and fairly comfortable and attractive

Old school (but fun) hotel experience
Reviewed By KotinkaThis is the kind of hotel that feels like it was built in the 1970's but for a grand and wealthy clientele. My experience may be unobjective as the hotel had lost track of my booking, had no regular rooms left, but then very kindly upgraded me to a suite. It was of massive proportions, as large as a decent sized flat in NYC or London. This was in the second building, over the road from the main building where breakfast is served. Breakfast actually was the main downer - don't bother, the food is very average, much better food to be had 5 mins away in the market area of town. There were a couple of staff we found who spoke English, but generally they were very keen to help, polite, great service in fact. Wifi was excellent, some of the best we had in China. Location is excellent - 5 mins walk from the market area which is a fun place to eat at in the evenings. Tonnes of restaurants with outdoor seating, and a main tourist drag but with musicians and street performers and all sorts going on. 15 mins walk away is the river, literally follow the main road straight until you get to it; a decent place to take a stroll and get away from it all.

Reviewed By malandro111Nice hostel ideal for children with the sandbox in the common area. Great to meet other travellers (if theyre around), only 10min walk to the sanddunes and 10min by bus to the city center and museum. Could communicate the basic needs with the staff over google translate.

Wonderful stay and friendly host family
Reviewed By franziskaasiaWe stayed here in the end of October 2018 for 4 nights. The room was clean and bright. The location is a bit outside of the city. Maybe 2-3 km but that’s a nice walk. Breakfast is local and prepared by the lovely host. We got sth different everyday. They make coffee for you for breakfast if you like. Really very helpful with information about the sights in Dunhuang. Recommend staying here.

You get what you pay for!
Reviewed By cami15The hotel is located in the city centre, walking distance to the night markets! Unfortunately, the rooms were not clean. We had two rooms (traveling with four children) and our non-smoking family room had a stale smoke smell to it. The carpet was dirty, we found a cigarette butt under the bed, as well as soiled items of clothing from previous guests. Our toilet leaked onto the bathroom floor and the shower leaked in our other room. We were told they would be fixed, but that did not happen, even after we reminded them. The rooms are not serviced, so you don’t get fresh towels (even though you’ve used some to contain the leak), bins are not emptied and toilet paper not restocked. I found a cleaning cart on another floor and asked for more toilet paper! There is no restaurant at the hotel, so you need to find a restaurant in the area for meals. If you’re looking for western food, you won’t find much in Dunhuang. The foyer often had men sitting around smoking, even though the no smoking signs are clearly displayed. The staff appear to not mind the smoking in the foyer, as no one was told to stop or go outside. Sadly, I can not recommend this hotel. There are plenty of others to choose from and I wish I had done that!

New and chic. Great value for money
Reviewed By Wsea3hThe hotel is about 2 or 3 years old. Taxi 30 RMB to Dunhuang Train Station. We booked at last minute and room rate was reasonable. Now I check rates for March next year and room rate is even crazily low. Sorry that my pictures don't do them justice. The room itself is very beautiful with good value for money. Nice toiletries. Good hot water. Attentive staff. Simple buffet breakfast cost 30 RMB per person. I like the buffet a lot as it has everything I can eat. My husband prefers some heavy foods so next day we didn't buy breakfast. Could walk to the riverside in about 20 minutes and that's a very neat and large garden with mountain view and river view. There are stoned way so you can walk into the middle of the river. Better view in the morning. We went in the afternoon so sunlight was not the best for pictures. We also walked to Sha Zhou Market and one more local market to have lunch and to buy fruits. The picture I post is the bus stop in front of the hotel but I have no idea how to go to the train station.

Reviewed By lovemangerDon't be misled to think this is a five star hotel. Well, the price speaks volumes. First, English is hardly understood. It would be hard if you don't utter a single word of Chinese. The mini-bar is empty. The cafe-bar space in the ground floor space is out of service. There is nothing else but to sleep in this accommodation. If you stay here just to sleep, it's OK. The room is reasonably furnished and decorated even if the photos overdo it. Don't misread me, though. The staff do their best to help you if they understand you. The thing is, don't expect too much with five stars.

Reviewed By Emma BWe stayed for three nights and were happy with this hostel. We had a private room which was clean, with hot water and AC. Staff did all they could to help when we had questions. Location was great, just round the corner from the night market and a short walk to the buses for the caves and dunes. Would recommend this hostel.
