10 Top-Rated Hotels in Davenport, Florida

June 29, 2022 Hana Mouser

Davenport is a vacation destination in north eastern Polk County that is popular because of its close proximity to the Walt Disney World theme park. While small in size, the town is experiencing rapid growth. Most Davenport tourists stay in this town and spend their time at the major theme parks outside Orlando. However, Davenport has its own attractions that should not be missed. Visit Lake Kissimmee State Park and partake in nature trails, horse trails, and boating activities. Play a round on one of Davenport’s two large golf courses: the Highlands Reserve Golf Club and the Ridgewood Lakes Golf & Country Club. Davenport offers a variety of fast food options and chains, as well as several great local establishments. The Davenport Cafe is perfect for lunch, as is Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe. Try the Bob Evans Restaurant for the best American cuisine, or visit Zen Asian Grill for Asian and Chinese foods. For dinner on a budget, visit The Shamrock Pub and Grille. Don’t head back too early—there are many great bars and pubs in Davenport. Try the Tuscana Tavern or The Pub for a relaxing drink. The 11th Street Bar & Grill is a pub and a restaurant combined, so be sure to check it out on nights when you want food and entertainment in one place. Other popular bars include the Happy Hollow Tavern and Boozies Bar & Grill. There are several large shopping centers right outside Davenport in Orlando, Tampa, and Kissimmee. Visit Posner Commons for stores such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, JCPenney, and more. Most of the shopping centers have food courts as well, so they’re a convenient way to spend the day away.

Rundown, dirty, dark rooms, smelly and more like an old “ motel” . The staff barely speaks English and is quite rude. Stained carpets, strong musty odors fill the floors of the hotel. We did NOT end up staying here and would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. This place needs to be bulldozed and reported to the health department. The hotel pictures are so deceiving!!

Older property, Clean Room, Pleasant Stay

Reviewed By candidhoney

This is an older property but is clearly being updated. The breakfast room and lobby have been updated with a modern geometric theme and a beautiful porcelain tile floor. Never seen anything like the porcelain tile. Very pretty. Interesting light fixtures that fit the general decor theme as well. They serve a hot breakfast. There were scrambled egg rounds, link sausages and later bacon came out with the fresh batch of eggs. There was no attendant, but fresh food was brought out after we informed the desk that they were out of various things. There’s a Mickey Mouse waffle maker (makes 4 mini waffles at a time); cute for the kiddies. They had artificially flavored blueberry pancake mix; it made my yogurt taste like it was spoiled. My husband, who had not had any waffle, tasted the yogurt, assured me that it was fine and that I would not have any issues with the bite I had swallowed (and then he ate the rest!). Plain waffle batter is better than fake flavors, in my opinion. There’s an assortment of cereals, breads, coffee, juices and fresh fruit (oranges and apples). The fancy push button coffee machine coffee was acceptable, but even with the Bold selection, it was not very strong. (I miss my over-roasted coffee.) Overall, breakfast was good, but not great and it was certainly more convenient than going out to eat. We appreciate breakfasts with more protein available, so this met our needs. There are 10 tables and plenty of chairs for seating. They have a high chair and there’s TV in the breakfast area. Breakfast hours end at 9 during the week. This property is a motel and we did have some noise from the parking lot late last night, but it was short-lived. Happily, we did not get any highway noise like we did at the Comfort Inn just up the road that’s directly across from the Interstate; I very much appreciated the quieter stay. Also, we are pretty unfamiliar with this area outside of greater Orlando, but at no time did we feel unsafe while at the motel. The door looked a little worn but worked well and we had no problems with our lock or keys. There are big windows in the room and good light-blocking curtains. There are stairs and no ramp at the entrance of this property which was somewhat daunting as we were dropped off with quite a bit of luggage. The back entrance of the lobby has a ramp, but this is not a friendly property for those with mobility issues. There is access, it’s just difficult to manage the door near the ramp since it’s heavy and difficult to keep open if you don’t have free hands. It’s probably fine if you have someone to help along with you. The sofa and chair in the lobby need replacing (like yesterday); they are in poor condition and make a fairly bad first impression. Hopefully the updated decor in the lobby and breakfast room welcomes guests and assures walk-ins that the sofa just hasn’t been replaced yet, but honestly, it did give me second thoughts when we entered. However, like the lobby and breakfast room, the public restroom off the lobby was spotless, so I was reasonably comfortable in checking in for the night even though we hadn’t seen our room yet. Our room was comfortable, reasonably clean (though not spotless) and adequately furnished; we had two beds, a table and two chairs. There was a refrigerator, microwave, hair dryer, clothing iron, ironing board and plenty of wooden hangers on the rack. We didn’t use those things since we checked in late and were busy all morning, so I don’t know if they worked. (I did check the hair dryer and it worked; the refrigerator was clean and seemed cold when I opened it.) The sheets and towels were spotlessly clean and the beds were smartly made; we instantly felt at ease as we inspected the room upon check-in. (That's the first thing we check anywhere we go now.) The bed and pillows were very comfortable and we slept well. We were there to sleep and shower so our mission was accomplished. And we had an easy, tasty breakfast, FTW. So if you need a place to sleep, shower and either eat a quick bite in your room or go out, it’s a good place to stay and the price is reasonable. If you want posh and more amenities look elsewhere. There are restaurants that are a short drive away and others that deliver. There’s a Denny’s next door and also a Waffle House, but there’s also a Cracker Barrel, pizza place and other restaurants that come recommended nearby. There’s wifi; it worked well in our room and in the lobby. Bad wifi ruins a stay for us since we do all of our work online. The staff is helpful and generally friendly. Amy did a wonderful job getting snags with our reservation (which was a bit complicated) worked out. She’s new to the hospitality industry but from our experience with her, she's doing a wonderful job, even though it was quite late she brought towels to our room. It was quite nice that we didn’t have to go get them! Christine (the manager) is well acquainted with the property (she’s worked here for a decade though she’s somewhat new to managing) and we were grateful for the time she spent talking with us about the area and how they are working to improve the property and gave us information about the porcelain tile floor. She has loads of practical experience with this motel and we highly value the fact that she's been at this property for so long. That speaks very well of those above her. We felt welcomed and valued which always makes a stay in a strange place more comfortable. The other desk clerks we saw working were conscientious and made sure things stayed clean and checked people in without any problems; it was a very nice change from things we've seen at some other hotels in our most recent stays away from home. NO dramas or dissatisfied guests while we sat working in the public space at the Quality Inn. THAT was very refreshing. The big negative -- the carpets definitely need cleaning; Christine the mgr assured us that cleaning is about to commence with their new equipment but it’s going to take a bit with so many rooms; the carpet is the primary reason why I can’t give them a higher rating on cleanliness and not because of the relatively minor issues we found regarding our room .Gotta get the carpets cleaned -- Because it's dirty, the tile in the bathroom area also gets dirty. (Oh, how I love my flip-flops for travel!) There are some other maintenance issues that need attention like the peeling ceiling above the tub, a small areas of mold near the tub because the shower curtain slips and it would be better to have the soap dish in the back of the tub instead of the front where it ends up being a tiny swimming pool, but I found nothing unsafe or disgusting. (This is Florida, btw, and fighting mold is daily a fact of life). Management is working to get the other maintenance problems fixed as well. Kudos to them for having a working bathroom vent-fan here! SO, if you can’t or don’t want to pay more for a hotel and just need a place to mostly sleep and shower, this is a good place to try; we would stay here again. For those who want more details: My biggest frustration was that the room was short of electrical outlets; the ones in the bedside lamp didn’t work, but we did manage to get our devices charged with the one easily-accessible outlet and by unplugging the lamp and clock. Inconvenient, but doable for a short stay. 3 people with computers and phones just need more outlets. My other frustration was the poor lighting in the room. Low wattage light bulbs (common in many hotels for the money- and energy-saving age), combined with a darker wall color (that has a low Light Reflective Value = LRV) makes it difficult on the eyes unless you open the drapes -- a help that only works in the daytime and since I don’t like living in a fishbowl, that was not an option during our few daylight hours. At night, it was just very dim in the room except for the bathroom area. Putting in some reading lamps would be helpful as well. (Fun fact -- wall colors (for such situations described above) should be chosen based on a higher LRV. (Tip:Sherwin Williams gives the LRV for all their colors.) Higher wattage bulbs should be used in the lamps in rooms with darker wall and floor colors that have a lower LRV, unless you actually want a dimly lit cozy area (for ambiance). If you want to save money on electricity and still be able to see, use lighter wall colors since they reflect more of the available light and you can get away with a lower wattage bulb and use less artificial lighting. You could use one darker accent wall, but balance it out with lighter color on the remaining walls. [Yes. I'm an artist and also help people decorate their homes. Maybe I should do consulting for hotels too!]

Pleasant stay but no wow factor

Reviewed By Fernando C

This property is split in two areas adjacent to each other. We stayed at one of their town houses. First impressions of the front desk was great, however, the townhouse it self was dull. There was a lot of wear and tear, for example, the sofa had most of its leather lining ripped off. Who ever decorated this home did the bare minimum. It didn’t have the same wow factor of other places. The house was clean and tidy and no we had plenty of silverware, cookware, garbage bags, etc. We went to the parks for three days straight and did not enjoy the amenities offered there so I cannot comment. Another reason why I had to dock it a huddle is because it took 45 minutes or more to get to the parks. Although navigation systems says much less, the traffic on I-4 was always bad. If you’re planning on going to the parks, find a place that’s closer. Not bad, but also not wow. You will be safe and essentials met.
