Hotel rénové en février 2019. De nombreux travaux ont été effectué. Restaurant, chambre, bar, réception. Nous avons conservé notre sens de l'acceuil et le rapport qualité prix.
Like a dowager duchess who has seen better days, this hotel is a little faded but the rooms are perfectly comfortable and represent good value. The garden side is especially quiet and to be recommended. Breakfast in a dull room dominated by a large TV screen; I think I'd find a cafe nearby next time. Parking is a 100 yards away in what seems a safe and free car park.

Well, yes, it was towards the end of September, but the empty pool and the brooding presence of the fibreglass animals gave it a kind of gloomy feel. It really was a pit-stop for us, as we'll dawdled through the Massif and it was getting late, and it did the job, but there was nothing much going for it.

I was tempted to write “faded splendour” but that’s not really fair: Castel Regina is far from the most splendid hotel in super-elegant spa town Châtel-Guyon ... and it’s not really faded, either! We had a lovely big room (but no kettle, etc, in the room), with fabulous views across the absolutely lovely Parc Thermal, and a belle-epoque four-poster bed! We never ate at the hotel (well, we had a dessert there one evening while listening to Martina and the Kats) ... looked a bit expensive. Service was fine. Parking was a bit hit and miss (either across the road up a sharp hill, or in the street), but never actually gave us a problem, despite the fact the town was heaving with festival goers. We were there for the Jazz aux Sources festival which was absolutely wonderful, and we will return next year.

I have travelled quite a lot all over the world the last 20 years and I'm not picky when it comes to standard of accommodation and service ... but this strikes everything I've experienced - my god! It is probably the worse places I stayed, and we still paid € 90 / night excluding breakfast. How this hotel even got guests is a miracle in terms of their service. One example is the small(!) detail they forgot to inform us about upon check-in, this was as from 22h00 the hotel entrance and also the front desk apparently close and you must have a code. They did not even apologize the day after for having us standing outside and knocking on the front door for 15 minutes at 23h00. The managing lady almost smiled when I told the front desk in english the morning after. She had earlier said she did not speak english, but seemed to understand at that point, quite rude. Safety deposit was available in the rooms but because it was locked when we arrived I asked the guy at the front desk to help me unlock it so we could use it. He would ask the manager ("the lady") .... then he called 5 minutes later and just said it was not used - and hung up. Why not just remove that thing from the rooms then! The only positive thing was that there was wifi on the rooms, and even that was still bad! We had booked two nights but got so pissed off and annoyed by all that so we just left the first thing in morning after the first night. It is almost like they begging for their business to end with a so called service like that. Have stayed at hostels for € 7 / night which has been so much better. It is still up to you if you want to stay here, but all I´m saying is - think twice before you book this.
