The central Norwegian area of Trondelag has its ideological capital in Trondheim, founded by Viking king Olaf Tryggvason in the 10th century and the seat of Norway's power until the 13th. Today, it's still the country's third-largest city, a university town with a rich culture. Trondelag's western offshore islands of Hitra and Froya are popular for outdoor adventures like camping, hiking, biking, snorkeling and scuba diving. They are also one of the world's best spots for deep sea fishing.

Trondheim is a wonderful city to walk around. This hotel is right next to the many old wooden buildings that are so charming to see. You can cross the river right there and walk around several of the quaint streets, passing by historical pubs, including one on a floating barge and another that was named National Geographic’s 2012 Restaurant of the Year, that looks right over to the steeple of the famous Cathedral.

Well situated just 3 minutes from the bus stop from the airport (if you get off at the right stop!). Good value (important in Norway) clean rooms etc, but the breakfast - amazing! Even better than Catalonia Ronda and Elektra Palace Athens (qv) and that is saying something. Particularly enjoyed the 3 types of smoked salmon which is a definite Scandinavian twist to things. Very comfortable and well appointed reception rooms and bar as well.

Thon Hotel Nidaros is a modern hotel located in the city centre of Trondheim. It offers free wifi and complimentary breakfast.
Our room is big enough for 3 adults, can even fit 4. The place is in the middle of the city center and easy to find. The price is not that bad. It can get noisy because the discotec and bars just around the corner. But with closed windows and we stayed on the 4th floor, we heard no noise at all.

Service at the front desk was excellent, very good advice regarding parking,, very friendly. Standard Room on the ground floor without carpets and clean, maybe a bit small, very good breakfast. Good shower.

Welcome to a peaceful haven in historical Trondheim. Hotel Bakeriet with its 109 rooms is located in the charming old parts of town and the house is inspired by its former history as a bakery. Included in all our rates are breakfast, and we even offer complimentary waffles during daytime, and a complimentary light evening-meal in the evenings. Coffee/tea is always free, and of course internet wi-fi access as well.
The hotel is centrally located and well in the middle of Trondheim. But it can be a little difficult to find the right street when you arrive by car, the reception is on one street and the entrance to the parking garage is on another street. The standard is typical of Best Western, ie lower middle class. The breakfast buffet is okay but contains nothing extra. There is free coffee in the hotel.

While checking in I asked for a room on a higher floor seen that the hotel is at the centre of Trondheim on a busy street. The receptionist claimed that all rooms were fully booked and were given a room right above the hall where a high school party was taking placed The hotel didn’t bother informing us beforehand or at least choose a more convenient room away from the noise despite knowing about the party. We only discovered the noise once we got to the room. When we went back to the reception to ask for another quieter room, the receptionist seemed very bothered by our request and after insisting on changing the room we ended up being downgraded being the “only” solution. For clarity, we only discovered we were downgraded later since the receptionist tried to sell it to us as a newly refurbished room not a downgrade. However, there was still noise although not as audible as before but we were assured the party will be wrapped up at 23:00 since it was a Thursday and that was the time agree with the organisers. Later than night, past 23:00, the party was still going on and louder than before. I had to call the receptionist twice before the hotel finally shut down the party (about 23:30). The following day was not better especially that we were still in the downgraded room and right above the bar. We tried again to have another room but in vain as it was a Friday and all rooms were full. Luckily this time, there was another receptionist who tried to help and managed to find a more suitable room on a higher floor for our last night and offered a gesture after she realised we were not given the room category we booked and actually were downgraded. Other than this horrible experience, the hotel itself was not in top shape. Facilities have seen better times. Minimum amenities, not even a bath mat or slippers to stand on. We’ve seen three different rooms and couldn’t see the effect of any cleaning. We had to indicate the breakfast time due to “COVID consideration” but nobody seemed to follow any timeline and the breakfast area was always crowded. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.
