Loris was our knight in shining armor!

Reviewed By oralepuesvato

The manager of the hotel, Loris, is an absolute saint! Foolishly, several months prior to my wife's and my departure booked the Meridiana Country Hotel, not based upon the distance between where we planned on touring, but rather based solely upon glowing reviews. I am a review obsessed person by nature, and rarely eat at any restaurant, go to any attraction, or stay at any hotel without doing extensive research about the reviews beforehand. Back to the conundrum, since I vetted the reviews, but not the location I quickly realized my mistake of booking a hotel so far away once we arrived at the train station in Florence. There were assistants at the train station, who I assume were lifelong Florencians, and they hadn't the slightest clue how best to travel to the hotel's location. We ended up taking a train to the Il Neto station and then became stuck with no bus to take us the rest of the way. We were hopeless and might as well have been in the middle of wilderness since we were no longer tourists in places catering to them in leaps and bounds, but instead strangers in a very foreign land. I called the hotel for advice and the front desk agent advised us to call a taxi, however with the time of night and the distance between us and Florence I thought that there were minute chances of a taxi showing up. Enter Lawrence: we were walking blindly down the street in the dark in Il Neto hoping to come across a store where we could ask for advice, and lo and behold someone gets out of a black SUV and asks us if we are going to the Merdiana Country Hotel. The look on my face turned almost immediately from sheer shock to absolute joy, we were saved! The consummate gentleman Lawrence drove over an hour round-trip to get us. He refused my gas money and only wished us a pleasant stay with him, and pleasant stay we had indeed. Service excellence is Loris' most important competitive advantage and is his distinguishing edge. His ethos is built on the Golden Rule, of treating others as you would like to be treated. With this simple yet powerful credo, Lawrence was been able to turn moments of desperation, such as ours, into a memorable and happy stay. Thank you again Lawrence, from the bottom of our hearts, and rest assured that my wife and I won't soon forget you! -Michael and Silvia from Austin, TX

Late arrival met with great hospitality

Reviewed By GKRP

We arrived late in the pouring rain. We were shown to a lovely room and then asked if we wanted supper. We did. It was late we were starving and we were treated to effectively a home cooked meal of food all produced on site - save for the wine - which was produced by grapes grown off site. Everything was delicious. In the morning the rain had cleared and we woke to beautiful views and a lovely breakfast. It is definitely worth a stay. We will be coming back when next in Italy.

TERRIBLE PLACE!!!!! We’ve checked in to this hotel 2 days ago. When we entered the room, we had a welcoming of a huge pile of dirty sheets in our balcony and unbearable sense of bleach- one that you cannot breathe with. We kindly asked, due to the mentioned, to cancel our stay and leave but the “nice” host wouldn’t agree and argue with us that this is ok and that the lady has forgotten to take the dirty sheets. On top of that, this place is dramatically remote from the city and feels very neglected. Stay away from this place!!!!!!! Spend your money in a place that deserves it.

Good hotel but could be better with minor tweaks.

We booked this for. 4 night stay, knowing it was slightly out of town, but it’s less than a 10 minute walk to the train station, and a 20 minute ride into Florence centre. Compared to having extensive free car parking, being dog friendly and just off the motorway that was a fair swap. We had an enormous room and bathroom which was well equipped. Room service were very free with toiletries and the free cooled drinks in the fridge at the start of the stay was a plus. Wifi was consistently good too. Now the niggles and little though they were, it would make a huge difference. First of all the bar is open only for a limited time in the evening, and that meant there was no atmosphere in the very large sterile environment. Given that there are very few choices locally and the chances are you had to go out to eat (the attached restaurant is great but fine dining and expensive), it would be nice to have a pre or post dinner drink. Remember there are no drinks in a mini bar in this hotel. Secondly breakfast is a bit meh. We were given no direction on day one and the doors to the dining room when we found it, were locked and we had to walk all the way around to the second entrance. Also not having the coffee machine working meant having to interrupt the staff to make some, which sometimes felt intrusive. Next the pool table had no balls on, so spontaneity was out. It does what it offered at a fair price, but little tweaks would make a longer stay like ours more pleasant. I suspect this hotel predominantly just has one night stays.

Absolutely lovely, but rent a car!

Absolutely beautiful farm house! Had an amazing week taking full advantage of the pool. Such a lovely place with beautiful views. The rooms are very spacious and clean. There was a garden with plastic furniture we frequently spent evenings at talking. There's also a washer and dryer which was so helpful! We had a wonderful stay. My only problem was how far away it is from everything. If we'd rented a car I'd have enjoyed it much more.
