Once the weekend retreat of the Schiffino family, Casa Bonita has been budged by nature to open its doors to outside guests and become an eco-lodge. Located in Barahona, in the still unspoiled and secluded southwest region of the Dominican Republic and adjacent to the only biosphere reserve in the country, Casa Bonita offers a unique ecological experience. A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Casa Bonita Tropical Lodge consists of 05 River Suites, 01 Villa, a Spa, and Restaurant featuring naturally grown products from the area.
We stayed at the Master River Suite, it was amazing. Felt really welcomed, the staff is very friendly. My favorite part was the bathroom and the jacuzzi, they allowed and helped all the decorators to make my engagement a dream. We loved the nature around it and how peaceful it was. Just an observation food is expensive and not a lot of variety, but we managed. After that perfection.

This was to be a real treat for me and my sons last few days in DR - exploring the Larimar mines and area it comes from. I wanted to stay somewhere that felt safe and a bit luxury for the last few days of our trip . This place was unwelcoming from the start .Woman on reception looked blankly at us as if we had not made a reservation , was on phone without attempt at explanation - after a 4.5 hour journey with a 9 year old was quite sad. Eventually led to a room that was part of a larger complex of rooms without explanation. Was not what we booked but we did not say anything. NO TOILETRIES whatsoever - for $150 / night - ! We explored a bit - nice pebbly beach and the view was amazing , pool icy cold. We then looked forward to dinner - AWFUL - service was bad , I mean really bad , we are not picky , food was mediocre and overpriced and I was overcharged for a beer - 250 pesos for a small presidente , when I queried it the guy just pointed to the 18 percent extra tax and 10 percent extra service charged - which still made it the most expensive beer I had on the island. Then to bed - dirty bedsheets with blood spots on them , mattress disgusting , holes in the needed mozzie net , son did not sleep well either - both got bed bug bites, sandfly , mozzies , truly uncomfortable and the wobbly fan only worked on 1 setting and didn't move around - last legs . We were out on adventures all day , then back to try again at the restaurant - worse than night before - Ensalada verde was some old lettuce with a tomato in it - 250 pesos , beer was down to 145 and my sons tiny (fried) fish was like rubber. Another itchy night on blood stained sheets - we asked in the morning via our guide to have a cover on the mattress and clean sheets. When we returned the bed had been changed , no mattress cover and the new sheets had blood spots all over and on the pillows/ DISGUSTING . My son was freaking out . We wanted to leave by this point but had a tour booked so we stuck with it . Last night there we ordered in from local comador and when it arrived some guy shouted at us about ordering food in and said the boss does not like it - tough - my son needs to eat . OH yes ! the breakfast - AWFUL - greasy, fried, tasteless (as were all the vegetables with dinner - even though I ordered steamed - I say vegetables but it was only aubergine both nights) . Tried to just have toasted sandwiches next day for breakfast but not possible apparently. Honestly - we spent $350 on 3 nights at this dump - ! No one ever asked us how we were , only time anyone spoke to us apart from the inept waiting staff was the shouty guy . Quite a few old guys with young local ladies there also . Just bad . Stay away . We have stayed all over this island for last 3 months - this is by far the worst and most expensive place we stayed.

A charming little hotel, respecting the traditional Antillian aesthetics, with European management in matters of cleanliness, hygiene, comfort and quiet. Casual atmosphere. Located in the centre of Barahona, capital of the southwest of Dominican Republic, the most genuine region of the country.
I have to say that if I visit Barahona again I will love to stay at this hotel. Is not you 5 star luxury hotel but we had everything we needed to explore. More than a hotel this is a place where the staff is very kind and have the best advice for places to visit. We were two marriage couples and we were never worried about our safety. From advice to amazing places to see, how to get there and even places to eat if you want to explore the most amazing views in the world I recommend staying here. Thank you very much, I am very happy and satisfied we can’t wait to stay with you the next time we visit Barahona.

We stayed in this hotel for one night while on our birding tour of the Dominican Republic, primarily due to its location but it was also a very nice hotel. My room was large with plenty of room and the bed was comfortable. The food was good and the pool looked nice but never got a chance to use it. The views of the Caribbean and the hotel grounds were awesome.

Clean, spacious and well equipped rooms. Good location, decent price. Food nice enough, no beer but easily available from great little bar next door. They forgot our packed breakfast one morning but otherwise no complaints!

We’d never been to the Dominican Republic before so didn’t know what to expect. We stayed a few nights in Punta Cana, which was nice, but going to Barahona and saying at Oasi with Antonio and his team exceeded all our expectations. What an amazing location, with beautiful scenery and beautiful people. Antonio was simply fabulous and catered to all of our needs. The staff were attentive at all times and the cocktails were incredible. We will 100% be returning, Antonio and his team have treated us like family, and we can’t wait to see them all again in such wonderful place, you have our hearts. Nicola xxxx

I was looking for waterfront hotels in Los Patos, Dominican Republic and stumbled upon this hotel. Its been updated and remodeled since the last pictures and is a very clean and secure hotel. Guests are provided electronic key cards and an old fashion manual key to enter the hotel (after 10:00pm when registration leaves). There is a manager that lives below the hotel and if there were any problems just hit the call and help is right there. The rooms are clean, with small balconies, but the best view is from the terrace on the roof! I highly recommend it for sunsets or sunrises. food is not provided, but there is a great comedor across the street and an intalian restaurant a couple houses away. The hotel is a great base-point if you plan on visiting San Rafael, Los Patos, and/ or Bahía de las Aguilas as day trips.

The Hotel Al Mare In. is located 11 kilometres from Barahona City, in the town of Juan Esteban, located 100 meters from the Beach El Quemaito. The Hotel is in front of a semi privated beach of ocean gravel and turquoise water very pleasant for swimming and fishing. The hotel is homely for enjoying the life on the edge of the Caribbean Ocean. The Hotel has direct access to the beach, the breakfast is included and is served on the terrace or outdoor.
We stayed one week at Johanny´s hotel and were absolutely happy - the hotel is small and simple but very charming and clean, Johanny is very friendly and welcoming. The beach right in front of the hotel is very nice. Absolutely recommend the place and would definitely come back.

Everything was perfect, the quality of the service, the amability of the manager as well as the food and the room. We went to Bahia de la Aguilas and they told us there is nothing to eat there so they prepared our lunch with sandwiches and fruits. We recomend this hotel.

As we first drove to Hotel Yamir, our driver was concerned that it was in an unsafe (viz poor) area. But be assured that this hotel is absolutely safe, and the people living nearby very friendly … as are the hotel staff. The hotel is absolutely spotless, one of those places where you feel you could eat your dinner off the shiny tiled floors. Our room wasn’t huge, but perfectly adequate … no outside space or pool, but what do you expect for the price, eh? To be honest, we were out and about all day exploring the coast road to the south, so had swum more than enough in gorgeous natural pools and the azure blue sea. Breakfast wasn’t great … but do ask for things you might like. They had papaya when we were there and that was lovely. No restaurant on site, but a nearby place delivers. Almost nothing for vegetarians and what there was, was awful. Might be worth buying dinner, bread and cheese or something, rather than getting the delivery. There is a little communal sitting out area at the back, but we were happy sitting in the breakfast area. One great plus for the hotel, is that they have free fresh water, hot and cold. So you can make your own hot drinks, and refill your water bottles without adding to the DR’s appalling plastic problem. The hotel owner is German, and has some English, as does his wife. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.
