I had a lovely stay at the Fairmont Baku and specially Ms. Ayan and Mr. Shahriyar Aliyev we’re very accommodating and helpful. They were extremely courteous and corporative. Thanks to them we had a very nice experience and would definitely want to visit Fairmont Baku once again.

The Merchant is situated in the magnificent building that once housed the Caspian Shipping Company. Built in 1858, the iconic architecture reflects one of the most dynamic and important periods of Azerbaijani history. The opulent building of The Merchant Hotel stands in the heart of what was once Baku’s trading and commercial center. Located in former Olginskaya Street, named after Grand Duchess
I was undecided about booking a major brand hotel that I usually stay at or The Merchant Baku during our vacation to Azerbaijan. I finally decided upon The Merchant Baku. Wow, what a great decision. This hotel has everything. The main thing is Location-Location-Location! You step out the door and all the restaurants and shopping are right there. You are also steps away from the Caspian Sea and the Old City. The staff is always there with smiles and willing to help. Hats off to Jafar for setting up our sides trips and to Ali and Ramadan in the dining room. Everyone was great. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and clean. Staying at The Merchant Baku was a great decision.

Courtyard by Marriott Baku is the newest addition to Azerbaijan's capital, combining heritage and style with an innovative design. Perfectly situated near Winter Park, our hotel is a prime spot to stay during your leisure or business trip.
I stayed at this property for 4 nights early May 2022. My experiences with Courtyard is very, very limited as this is only my 2nd Courtyard property to stay at. So I can't really say if this Courtyard is really good or not as compared to other courtyard properties. The hotel is very new and was just opened last year. This Courtyard is quite big as well with over 300 rooms. Of the 3 MR properties, The Courtyard Baku is also the closest to Old Town and many, many restaurants. As for elite benefits, I wasn't given a suite upgrade. But was given one of the best Superior room with a big balcony overlooking the city. Not too sure how many suites there are, but was told it's quite limited. Other elite benefits is complimentary daily buffet breakfast for 2 & $10 USD per person per night food voucher. Given then Baku is quite cheap, you can get a club sandwich at the hotel for less than that. So taking the voucher over 500 points is a no brainer. I arrived quite late and check in was fairly standard and fast. However during the day the hotel could be very, very busy and if you needed to ask something at FD, it could take you at least 15-20 minutes to speak to them as there could be only 1 or 2 agents at a time. Also I noticed that even if you are waiting in line, if they see a family with kids, they tend to put the family ahead in line and skip the queue. So keep that in mind if you are in a rush. The room itself was very clean and quite large for a superior room. I think there are only 3 categories here (Standard/Superior/Jr Suite). No complaints for the room itself. The balconies are always locked and you have to sign a waiver if you want to have the balconies unlocked. Security locks/unlocks the balcony. Not HK. As for breakfast, it's on the lobby past reception. I only had breakfast once during my 4 night stay. I would say is pretty standard buffet breakfast. Couldn't remember any standout food. It's very busy. For over 300 rooms (I think 365 rooms), the breakfast area is quite small. And it took me a while to find a spot. They also serve pork even though it's a Muslim country. I've been to at least a dozen Muslim countries and I think this is the 2nd time I saw pork (the 1st being Albania). But I read that Azerbaijan is the most secular Muslim country in the world so that probably explains it. Having said that, I can recommend Courtyard Baku over the others for several reasons. It's the most central and closest to old town of the 3 MR properties. The price is cheap, about 75$ a night. Is recently opened so everything is very new and clean. There's a supermarket on the same building so you can get whatever you need there. Wait times (over the phone/in person) can take a while but once you speak to someone, whatever your requests are is very fast. My tip if youre ever going to here is to use Bolt and not taxi. Bolt is half or more than half the price less than a taxi. A 25 minute ride from airport to city centre with Bolt is about 7USD. A ride to old town or Caspian Sea promenade is about 1$ with Bolt. Also for Caviar lovers (as Azerbaijan is by the Caspian Sea), there's a boutique store in old Town called Baku Caviar. Their Beluga is very reasonable. 113g is 150$.

We stayed 6 nights with JW Marriott. We have a toddler and infant with us. Room: The room size is small to our liking (but that's also because we have been fortunate to stay in large rooms in other countries), and the amenities within the room was well thought out, except for the fact that they had locked up the mini bar so we were unable to keep items cool inside. Staff: Staff (mainly reception) were overall not as friendly as what we experienced in the retail shops, cafes and restaurants in Baku. However, we sincerely commend Husyen, the Concierge. He has been utmost sincere and helpful throughout our stay in the hotel, we really appreciated his thoughtfulness. Restaurants: Breakfast buffet selection has minor changes each morning, so it can get boring after a while. There is a lady manager there who is quite attentive to details but unfortunately, we didn't get her name. The cooks behind the live stations were really friendly. The staff at Fireworks were amazing, with all smiles and constantly checking in with us to see if we are fine. Hotel Amenities and Location: We really love the heated indoor pool at the top floor. It gives an almost 360 view of Baku. The location is ok and it seems to cater more towards business travellers. As we are there as tourists and not for business purposes, it is quite a bit of a walk to the main attractions. If you're purely here on holiday and sightseeing, I would recommend staying nearer to the city centre. Overall a great stay. We have stayed in different hotels over the past few years and to us, the overall service could be better. However, Husyen's hospitality made up for it. Thanks Husyen!

My wife and I recently stayed at the Excelsior as a way to relax during the three-day weekend resulting from the 8th of March International Women's day holiday. We had a wonderful time, including some unexpected surprises. Not knowing when we checked in last Saturday that the hotel was planning a special Women's Day dinner with band for Monday, we eagerly made a reservation. It turned out to be a great way to wrap up our trip. Social distancing measures were in place, but we were still able to find a nook for dancing. The dinner in addition to breakfasts each morning was exquisite. We did get to visit the huge pool one last time the next morning before check-out, however. It was great to be able to take full advantage of a gym, swimming pool, and racquetball court after getting out of shape during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The fitness center director, Ilgar, was extremely helpful and speaks remarkably good English. Other hotel staff were also very, very helpful. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing for a great stay in Baku (even to residents opting for a 'staycation' such as ourselves). Also, it's in a convenient part of the city and it seems that all rooms have great views. We definitely want to stay at the Excelsior again, maybe for another national holiday.
