Allentown, is the largest of the three Pennsylvania cities that make up the Lehigh Valley. Formerly an industrial hub, Allentown is probably most well known as the subject of the eponymous Billy Joel song. The long history of Allentown has left it with an impressive architectural heritage that includes buildings such as the neo-Roman Art Museum, which contains a reconstructed room designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The city is also home to the Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom amusement park.

For Valentine’s Day Weekend, my girlfriend booked us rooms for Friday and Saturday. We had stayed at this Holiday Inn Express twice before on weekends. We loved the cleanliness, staff, and most important, the quiet. Friday night in our second floor room was wonderful, but on Saturday, we endured our worst hotel stay. When I worked for Hampton Inn and Embassy Suites as s desk clerk, on weekends, we would separate couples from what looked like guests hosting “party rooms”. Furthermore, when we were not sold out, we would check guests into rooms separated by empty ones whenever possible. This would allow guests more privacy. Apparently, the clerk/night auditor on the 11 PM to 7 AM shift does not care about guests at all. On Saturday before 1 AM, my girlfriend called this person at the front desk to report people running through the third floor hall. Devoid of customer service skills, he simply blew her off with a couple of words. The stomping continued and I called down again. With an attitude, he stated that he had gone to the third floor and found nothing happening. I told him that if he did not do his job, I would call the police. His response: “Don’t come at me!” Near 2:30 AM, as my girlfriend and I fought for sleep, there was a knock at our door. It was the desk clerk. Belligerent as before, he once again reiterated that nothing was happening, which was not true. I reminded him about the important of customer service. Soon after, a party began right next door to us and went on until roughly 6 AM. People talked in the second floor hallway, and apparently had races in the stairwell. The desk clerk did nothing. Before each elevator, the property has a sign that reads in part: “Quiet time from 10 PM…” and it proclaims that a “security team” will apparently monitor the hotel. At night, there is only one desk clerk/night auditor and no security team at all. At 11:05 AM, a member of the housekeeping staff knocked on our door to announce that check out was at 11 AM. This came as a surprise since we had checked out at noon on our previous stays. Due to this particular staff member’s third-rate social graces, lack of customer service training, and for his complete disregard for his guests and the property, we will not return to this Holiday Inn. I have never had a bad experience in a Holiday Inn and I hope this is not a sign that they are slipping when it comes to customer service and guest safety in general. I am leery of visiting any of their properties.

Convenient location with plenty of parking. The issues for me started with check-in. Very stoic reception. No mention of thank you for being a Hilton Honors member and also a Diamond Club member. Not a big deal, but it is a nice touch and most Hilton properties do it. There was no mention of the hotel's $10/day credit for HH members (more later). I also asked for a courtesy upgrade and they looked at me like I had two heads. This is customary for Diamond Club members. I checked in and the room was fine, but cold. Turned up the temp and that fixed that. The hotel could use some upgraded carpets, especially in the halls. The bed was extremely comfortable. I went back to the front desk and got two snacks from their pantry. I asked if these were complimentary for HH members. They said "no" as I will be getting a credit as part of being a HH member. So they charged me $6. After checkout, I received the bill by email and there was not a $10 credit, but the $6 was there. I called a few days later and the desk attendant checked it out and said I was owed a credit of $10. Nothing was said, such as sorry for the inconvenience, etc. Again these things are fairly trivial, but not what I am used to at Hilton properties. A bit about their restaurant food. Very average. I had dinner and breakfast there. 3 out of 5.

We were on a group trip to help our friend have a grand proposal as a surprise, and had landed at a hotel from hell. The team at Americus was attentive, quick to help, and absolutely saved the weekend. I used to work in the industry and it has been far and few between for experiences that were above and beyond like the Americus delivered. Robin, Riley, and Marisa made the chaos subside and our stay was impeccable- and the newly engaged were thrilled. 10/10 stay here, it’s beautiful, staff is top notch, and the hotel it’s self is stunning and clean as all get out. I cannot thank the staff enough!!

Stayed their because of a family visit and access to everything. It’s rating and being a Marriott member pushed me to this hotel, I paid with points from my CSR and it was a waste. Upon arriving I made my way to the front desk which involved two elevator rides after parking in the parking deck behind the hotel. After check in I made my way to the room which I booked an executive king. Upon entering the room I noticed it had two double beds. I called the front desk and they had me go down 3 floors and wait in the hall while they brought up a new key for my room. I got ready and met some family across the street for dinner and drinks. I arrive back at the room around 10 pm. You can hear everyone that walks by your room. I fell asleep around 11pm and was abruptly awaken by someone banging on a door in the hallway at 245 am. Apparently someone had locked themselves out of their room and was trying to wake up their roommate. They even had the audacity to knock on other rooms and ask to call their roommate which makes me believe they weren’t supposed to be there. I had to call the front desk in which they must have went up 5-10 min later or they finally made it into the room. After being awaken I could not fall back asleep. Check out was a breeze, I made the long journey back to my car, and here is what caused me to leave the review. If you park in the parking garage you are supposed to be able to contact the front desk to have them buzz you out so you don’t have to pay. However when you hit the call button you get the “your call cannot be completed as dialed” prompt. $16 for one night of parking. The staff of the hotel was amazing, I do not want to take away from them, the overall experience will most likely keep me away from the property in the future.

My girlfriend booked a room here... The first room was immersed in cigarette smoke. Due to her asthma and allergies, we asked to change rooms. Our next room came complete with an unyielding musty odor that permeated every piece of fabric. Because of her health condition and the horrific conditions, we could not stay at the property. Due to the owner's greed and lack of empathy, he refused to allow his staff to refund my girlfriend's card. I had worked at Hampton Inn and Embassy Suites for several years and we would NEVER do that to any guest. The building is so disgusting, it should be razed. Truly avoid this property at all cost.

The hotel itself was great! Very clean, comfortable bed, great shower. But it ends there. We had to get up at 4 am to shower and get to the airport. So we went out to dinner, came back and pressed the wake up button on the phone and it rang and rang. So we called the front desk and the person there said they had no idea how to schedule a wake up call. The alarm clock in the room was not working either. So we called corporate and they said of course we do wake up calls, well not at this hotel they don't. Yes, we had our cell phones but we like that back up when we are catching a flight. So they actually came down to our room and knocked at the door at 4 am...unbelievable. I think they need to train their employees better. If we weren't on a time schedule I would of showed them the picture I took of the room phone that had the wake-up button.

Between rude staff, poor check-in experience, hearing loud staff arguments through the walls, worse than expected facilities, sub-standard and potentially dangerous fire alarm policy, and general poor aesthetic quality, this was one of the worst hotel experiences of my life.

Nice hotel tucked back off the highway, you wouldn't know it was there if you weren't looking. Clean rooms, polite staff. Above average hot breakfast buffet. There's a nice restaurant a few blocks' walking distance too. Great stay, good price!
