Often compared to Venice due to its abundance of canals, Alappuzha is the gateway to the backwaters of Kerala. Rent a houseboat for an up-close view of the palm-lined waterways. In August, the snake-boat race is a remarkable festival—each traditional boat has a crew of over 100 local sailors.

Alleppey, also named as ‘Venice of the East’ by the Viceroy of India Lord Curzon, is one of the oldest trading centers, bridging India’s ties with Greece and Rome during the Middle Ages. The culture of Alleppey has its soul defined in the ‘Sangam Era’ with art, literature, social and economic collaborations with Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Sri Lanka. It also draws its influence from the Dutch and Portuguese settlers of 12th Century, which established Christianity in the region. Sterling Lake Palace Alleppey Resort is centrally located in 14 acres of lush greenery and calm water bodies, parallel to the Vembanad lake. Built with a private lagoon surrounded by backwaters, the resort features 58 luxurious rooms and suites, overlooking the Vembanad Lake – the longest freshwater lake in India. The resort also boasts an Ayurvedic spa, water sports, exotic flavors of the coast and delectable global cuisines. Want to relax? Check out the incredible island swimming pool, and sip your favourite cocktail poolside, while taking in the beauty around you.

Lake Canopy strategically located in Punnamada, Alappuzha, is the ideal destination for all types of commuters. It maintains exclusive 28 cottages/rooms with back water view and ensures hospitality with utmost care, comfort and luxury. The same has been categorized into 3 cottages with private swimming pool, 5 cottages with Jacuzzi and 20 premium rooms.
It is near the Lake with house boat and shikara running around. But the approach road is as if you are entering the village. Only 1 vehicle can pass. The property is too good to relax and offers massage as well. The big Private park is too good as then you will be able to see surroundings and relax

We had visited Alleppy in May 22 and stayed in this resort located on the bank of a beautiful backwater lake that's what it's name. Resort inside ambience, rooms, food quality everything was at its best. Just for nothing you can stay here for 2-3 days for a pure refreshment. Staffs are very polite, soft spoken and professional as well. I give 4.8 star out of 5. Overall a great experience exactly before wrap up of our Kerala tour...??

Turn off the highway to Alleppey, onto a narrower road that winds its way through sleepy hamlets, going past prawn and shrimp farms and submerged fields of paddy. You gradually begin to feel the overwhelming presence of water. At times in the course of the journey it seems that for an instant one has dropped below the waterline. "Kondai Lip" Set amidst palms and lush tropical vegetation, traditional air conditioned cottages with canal facing sit outs, built with laterite and wood, elegantly furnished and equipped with all modern amenities. Just 55 km from Cochin International Airport and 18 kms towards Fort Cochin.Having its own Ayur health care Centre with Green Leaf accreditation.
Found the place on a random google search for places to stay in Alleppy, which would not be too far from Cochin airport. Went there with family on a weekend spin from another city/State. It was an amazing and memorable stay. The resort is virtually on an island with tranquil backwaters all around, for as far as the eyes can see. After disembarking from the cab, one has to reach the main hotel entrance on one of the hotels rowing boats/motor boats. The property is a waterfront hugging superbly maintained property with nearly 80% of the rooms backwater facing. It's a place where one should just confine themselves to the resort and not get tempted to divide time loitering around other corners of Alleppy and lose out on the heavenly peace and beauty of Kondai Lip resort. There are many activities on the resort to keep one solidly engrossed, namely Ayurvedic massage SPA, Fishing (the waters around are teeming with Karimeen fish a.k.a Pearl Spot fish), swimming pool, badminton, Hammocks (to laze around and read a story book ) and the icing on the cake - different varieties of boats for a pleasure ride . I recollect unforgettable long durations spent on the vast waterbodies around on Shikara, paddle boats, canoes& kayaks. The best part is , it is FREE, it is self propelled (no hotel staff to wrench control of the oars from you ) and no unnecessary supervisory interference by people blowing a silly whistle from the banks of the lake forbidding you to go this way or that way (like we get to see in many boating facilities in India). The highlight of the day is, a daily evening cruise on a 30 seater cruise boat down the vast stretches of backwaters lasting about 2 hrs (again totally free and as many rides as one wants ) where time comes to a standstill as you watch the idyllic villages drift past with massive Chinese fishing nets lowered in water and the locals on the banks seated with fishing rods engrossed in trying their luck at catching fish. The food at the restaurant caters to almost all the gastronomic requirements. The breakfast is complimentary and enough to satiate. Non veg /veg , from classic Kerala dishes to North Indian stuff/English bread butter, eggs, fruit juices. At lunch/dinner We had a gala time feasting on varieties of the popular Karimeen fish and other popular Kerala dishes. On our special request the chef even obliged us with a personalized preparation of Kalamari (Squid rings). All in all we had a most remarkable experience of a holiday, all courtesy the breathtaking location and the accommodation at Kondai Lip resort and most importantly the ever willing to help anchorperson Mr Ken and his smiling hospitable team members ( namely Sebastian, Sandip, Avinash, Raju, Prakasan, Anu, Sharath, & chef Jijo), who ensured that the resort experience is even better than what one gets to read in the reviews on the net. Thanks Mr Ken. Thanks Kondai Lip team.
