April 27, 2023 Kandra Bartel

Encompassing two of the Netherlands’ three largest cities (Rotterdam and The Hague), Zuid-Holland (South Holland) is also home to important towns like Leiden, Gouda and Delft. And many lovely smaller towns dot the gorgeous green landscape. Alphen aan den Rijn has several interesting attractions, including Dutch history theme park Archeon. Picturesque Kinderdijk, birthplace of the legend of the Cat and the Cradle, also has many windmills that together are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Golden Stork

A perfect, central location, free WiFi, a bar and a waterside terrace: The Golden Stork is The Hague’s newest and cosiest hostel. We’re at walking distance from the two main train stations and all the main sights. The tram stops in front of the hostel which means the beach is only 10 minutes away. Our hostel is located at the Bierkade, a beautiful canal in the city centre. Inside we have six cosy rooms. The Golden Stork is the newest hostel of the city and all the facilities are equally brand new. There are spotless sanitary facilities and high quality bunkbeds with luxury mattresses. Each bed has its own wall socket and a light. Bedlinen and towels are included, breakfast is available for a small fee. Prices are excluding city taxes (€3,50 per person per night). There is now curfew so you can enter the hostel whenever you like. Check in is from 2 to 11 pm. Checkout at 12 am. The reception is manned from 9 am to 11 pm. Whether you will be here for a day or two and want to see everything that matters; if you’re planning an extended sightseeing and shopping trip; or if you're a party animal looking to discover the city’s nightlife: The Golden Stork is the ideal place to stay. We look forward to meeting you!

Vile

Reviewed By Holaheihi

This is an absolutely disgusting establishment; some of the rooms don’t have windows and are crammed full of people. This results in the rooms smelling terrible; it was so bad for me that I only stayed a matter of hours because it was so disgusting. Furthermore I arrived on a cold miserable day with rain; however this Hostel does not allow you to check-in until 17:00 hours. Even though staff were in the reception area they would not allow me to check-in until 17:00 hours. Given that you can’t check in until 17:00 hours it would seem reasonable that you can then check out at 13:00 hours however there is no allowance made given that you have to check out quite early. Additionally there is no communal area; this place is just absolutely vile and the worst place I have stayed in whilst in the Netherlands.

Stayokay Hostel Rotterdam

Stayokay Rotterdam is located in the centre of Rotterdam in the striking Cube Houses. These peculiar homes built on pylons were designed by the Dutch architect Piet Blom in 1984. The houses are located close to the Oude Haven, a historic area of the city bristling with bars, restaurants and cafés. Every room has its own washing facilities and the hostel will be fitted with state-of-the-art facilities. The hostel is particularly suitable for groups staying several nights, but also for meetings & workshops.

Corona vaccination proof rejected

Reviewed By W193VUjessicab

Bad hotel. One of my guests has 2 proofs of Corona vaccination on paper. Because he is not a Dutch citizen, he has no QR code. In all other accomodations, 2 proofs on paper are accepted. Before booking, this was not mentioned. Upon arrival we got a very nasty treatment and the manager stated that the 2 papers were not a valid proof. She cut off the line because I wanted to insist on booking. This was on New Years Eve. Very bad experience on a very important day and family reunion.

Terrible experience trying to get a room

Reviewed By 524billyc

The guy working there tonight needs an attitude check. He seems to think he's King Kool himself. I came in late looking to book a room, and they had availability. He said it was past their check-in time but offered to sell me a private. That sounded good, and I asked if they had any in-person discounts. Pretty standard thing to ask for, and I asked for it politely. He went on about how he was making an exception for the late checkout and told me he could give me a "discount" of X. Well it turns out I had already seen the room selling for less than X on Hostelworld, so I told him I'd like to book it online (once again, politely). Well King Kool felt threatened by that, I guess. I have no idea what he was thinking, because he then told me we "couldn't come to an agreement" and went on about how he was going out of his way for me... and told me to leave and go to the Ibis! Maybe he didn't like to be exposed for lying about a "discount." Dear management: when a customer offers to take a room you're not going to sell tonight, who is doing whom a favor here? Glad I didn't give King Kool any business.

Stayed here with my husband and 15-year-old son in August. The room was clean, beds comfortable and bed linen freshly laundered. Communal areas are nicely decorated and inviting. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast, which was included in the price, was good and plentiful. Would stay here again without any hesitation.

No wifi, tv is not working. we did not sleep and find a real hotel for 2 nights. They were supposed to call me back on my mobile phones pro and personnal I'm still waiting for 2 weeks and they did't even apologize. they stoled me 300 euros, it's a shame, this place should be closed. incredibly rude

Reviewed By Helen C

I had a booking for this hotel next month, but needed to move my holiday because I'm unable to travel due to ill health. It was a non refundable booking so I very politely emailed to ask if there was anything they could do to move the booking back 4 months. I received a very unfriendly reply to say no. I replied, explaining further, and telling him that if he could be flexible I would be needing 3 more nights accommodation on my return journey. I did add that the other hotels I had booked with had been more flexible as I imagine they are keen to replace lost business after the pandemic. His reply was unbelievably rude. He even said I was 'turning my rage' on him - so very far from the truth. Needless to say I will be losing my money and booking elsewhere. If that is how a customer is treated on email I can't imagine how bad the service is in the hotel :-(
