Comfortable private accommodation
Reviewed By 795eriklIt was a very comfortable place to stay for a few days. The owners, Vlad and Evgenia, are responsive and accommodating hosts. It can be a bit loud outside at night (depending on other guests, but that can vary at any hostel.). The deluxe private accommodation is a bit separated from the dorm area, so the noise was not too bad. I'd stay here again.

Welcome to our Soviet family, we meet you when you arrive with vodka in the fridge :) We are really Soviet Style, Not fake.. This ain't Paris!!! ;) Don't worry, we have a modern toliet and WiFi!!! Plus we take you on Soviet Wasteland tours, to very isolated areas, nobody else will take you. Isolated Soviet Villages with homemade wine, Abandoned Soviet Factories, Giant Busts of Lenin etc. All with us safely!!! :) We have been doing this over 10 years and have been the advisers to BBC, CBS News 60 minutes, The New York Times, French le monde, and many others. We also guide Professional Photographers constantly. :) With Soviet Stuff, Super Models and .50 cent bottles of Vodka, what can go wrong? Come join the Soviet Party. :)

Reviewed By JakeRakeIf you're looking for a non PC,Non Commercial, in your face Soviet Reality Tour, these are the guys! They even have a old style Soviet Garage Pub, for private parties with tourist. We went to crazy, way out of the way places. That were really isolated. Abandoned Factories, Soviet Nuclear Bunkers! And even had parties at these places lol! They seem to know everybody, and all doors are open to you. We had a blast! If your looking for a polite hotel stay, a quick selfie in the center and western pizza at Andy's! Then you should probably stay home! This is the real wild East! And they show it to you!

Reviewed By DocZwiebelThe check-in was a bit chaotic, so i recommend booking directly with the hostel. Otherwise, a great hostel close to the center with amazingly friendly stuff. It is quiet, it is clean, and the staff has really good recommendations for food.

2nd worst hostel on 6 continents
Reviewed By 795glI was booked at Funky Mamaliga by Retro Moldova Hostel though Booking.com. I have stayed at approximately 200 hostels/hotels in the last 4.5 years on 6 continents. The Funky Mamaliga is the 2nd worst hostel I have every stayed at. The staff here are the laziest, most inconsiderate individuals I have every met. One speaks NO ENGLISH and seems happy about it. I ask about a store (magizin) no help. No restaurants within 2 blocks of here. No maps of the city. The sitting area they occupy in the court yard looks like a homeless person is piled up. Guest sitting in the court yard are bombarded with their loud music. They play it loud and you can hear it blasting over your music on your headphones. They talk loudly among themselves. They have personal guest show up and make out all night. They are still around in the mornings. They don't empty thrash cans in the sleeping quarters, kitchen or bathrooms. The area around the washing machine smells of sour clothes. They do not restock toilet paper in a timely manner. At 7:00 p.m. they were out, 7:00 a.m. the next day it's still out. They leave beds dirty until someone wants to rent them. The majority of hotels and hostels strip the used sheets immediately and remake the beds when people leave. At 10:30 p.m. they are cleaning and making beds. Lights out occurs at 10:00 p.m.(2200 hours) at 90 % of hostels. The room lay out is asinine. The single beds headboards block the windows from opening. The rooms are as hot as Dante's Inferno. Reversing the beds would not only allow windows to open but headboards would block the hall light from shinging into the room. That's right the bedroom has glass panels. I used the thrash can that was full of thrash to tie off and block open the window for ventilation and the staff untied the window and moved the thrash can without emptying it. They didnt empty it my entire stay. The light fixture has one light bulb. The owner needs to install a ceiling fans and put screens on the windows to stop mosquitoes. There were 4 lockers in the room. Only one locker had a key that worked.. Two lockers were locked closed and one had a key that didn't work. The kitchen looks like a "$hit hole"! If the staff is not going to monitor that those that use the kitchen clean it up then they should keep it clean. It should not have leftover food and dirty dishes for hours after use. On Sunday August 25th that had a party with loud music till about 0400 hours. Most nights this ended at 0100 hours. Again staff is lazy, rude and inconsiderate of the guest staying here.

Perfect quick overnight in Chisinau
Reviewed By RJ SI needed pvt accommodation with internet for some business, and this was perfect overnight, super comfortable and warm twin with great net speed. Jerome at checkin couldn't be friendlier, great tips on area. Some comments note rough around the edges exterior. This is just Chisinau. It's perfectly safe, centrally located. Retro has small stencil signs that wd be hard to see at night, so coordinate your arrival carefully with property: address is correct, apartment entrances are around back, doors to each unit block, 4, 3, then yours, at 2, for #24.

Reviewed By ELearPLUSES. 1. The flat isn't expensive, especially if several people are staying there at a time. 2. It's got everything you'll normally want (e.g. a washing machine). 3. It's near the middle of town, and conveniently placed for bars, changing money, shopping etc. 4. Marisha's parents are kindness itself, and do everything they can to help. Someone can be found to interpret if necessary. 5. Marisha can organise other things (e.g. excursions, wine-cellar tours). Find "Marisha and friends in Moldova", and if what you're interested in isn't there, ask. MINUSES. 1. It's the sort of place where Peace Corps volunteers, NGO workers, etc stay when they're in town for a few days - i.e. basic - so don't expect the sort of luxury you'd expect in a hotel. 2. The lift's rickety and ancient, but it works. 3. The carpet has a mysterious way of pulling your socks off. We enjoyed it.

Amazing Hostel
Reviewed By traveller892013We arrived at an unearthly hour and was welcomed by a friendly face. We found out that the hostel was actually closed for refurbishment but because we had booked online the hostel owner had set us up a nice room with a balcony and told us to us the place like it was our very own apartment. The place is spacious, clean and centrally located on the main street. The owner is a great man, helping us when we needed to call a foreign company, walking us to the closest cheapest food in town and helping us order our food. We've had a great time at Trotters Den and would recommend it to everyone if they are coming through Chisinau!
