Fringing two sandy bays separated by a rock island reachable at low tide, Mirissa feels hidden away compared to Sri Lanka’s other busier resort towns. While the quiet sands are sprinkled with bars and surf rentals, it’s Mirissa’s May-to-November whale-watching boat trips that steal the show.

My two week stay at Surf & Yoga Mirissa was truly healing, in every sense of the way. I felt so welcomed by Priyal and the whole crew at the retreat. The yoga classes were a marvellous addition to the fun surfing lessons with Anu! I felt at home in an instant and will definitely come back...or check out their other locations! Perfect for solo travellers as well, you'll get to meet so many amazing, inspiring, open-minded people. :-)

Hangover Hostels, a new breed of budget hostels ["affordable luxury accommodation" as we call it], offers super comfortable beds, secure lockers, air condition, hot water, free Wifi and a host of other facilities which provides safe, comfortable and clean accommodation. A fun place to meet likeminded travelers and enjoy the cool vibes. If all that was not enough, make a note, We are right opposite the Mirissa main Beach.
Just be warned the shipping containers are no more as they did some renovations during the pandemic and it's just newly reopened. Couldn't speak more highly of this place. They are still expecting to build a bar up on the 1st level that will have a view of the sea but the shipping containers have been replaced with really nice red brick dorms. This hostel is very central in Mirissa and walking distance from all the main attractions. There were two managers during my stay, Mahesh and another I didn't quite get his name but both were so friendly and gave me so many good suggestions for places to go in Sri Lanka and what to do.

Stayed here with my boyfriend for 4 nights! The room was clean and spacious with A/C which for us is a must! Especially for the price including breakfast was a steal! The room has shower with hot and cold water and a cupboard you can lock for any people who are security conscious or like us just want to make sure our passports are safe! The host was wonderful and friendly and couldn't have done enough to help! There is even a lil seating area in the garden with a cover if you want to just sit and read a book! Beach is a 5 min walk away and actually being off the main strip makes it a far more pleasurable place to stay without being hassled by ever tuk tuk driver! Breakfast was perfect eggs toast tea coffee fruit and yogurt! Room was comfortable and we were only 5 min walk from the harbour for whale watching! Highly recommended would defiantly return!

This is a great place, where the owners will make you feel like a family member. I had been traveling for quite a while when I arrived there and I had asked many not-so-sommon requests. The guys did all for me with a smile on their face. At the beginning they told me that I could not stay in the room that I booked (6people room) and they put me in this huge 8 people dorm just above the restaurant but in the end I preferred it it is an open space and mosquito net will ensure you a good sleep. After freezing winter nights in Europe with cryotherapy every time when you leave home. That was a nice change to sleep in such open space. The facilities are basic with bamboo like shower, but who needs more on a beach. They have a restaurant which is a nice add-on. On my booking it said I had a breakfast included but in the end I paid for it which was still not much. It is not near to the famous Mirissa beach (maybe 15 mins walking), but properties over there are much more pricy.

JJ's Hostel Mirissa is an Award Winning hostel in the centre of Mirissa offering a little luxury and exceptional value. The hostel is bespoke designed, integrating numerous common areas with six high quality private rooms (Deluxe A/C and Deluxe Fan) and three spacious luxury dormitories (Mixed and Female). Mirissa is on the beautiful southern coastline of Sri Lanka, only two hours from Colombo. JJ's Hostel is a five minute walk from the beach.
This is a wonderful hostel, the people who run it are lovely, helpful and welcoming when you arrive. All the facilities are good and the rooms and communal areas are very clean and have everything you need. The pool area is lovey and well kept as well. We stayed here on a short holiday as friends and it was wonderful. They have security 24/7 and the location is spot on for Marissa as you can walk everywhere and if not a tuk tuk is cheap to most destinations around Sri Lanka's south coast. I would highly recommend JJ's if you are in Marissa.

The Fat Mermaid is Café and Wine Bar serving Breakfast to late Brunch.. we have a Wine bar with is open right through out the day till 10pm. We have a great selection of wines and cocktails to choose from light dinner with tapas food and fantastic prawn and crab dishes.
The Fat Mermaid is nestled in a little secluded garden just off the main road, with beach access to all beaches just a stone's throw away. Tuk tuks were easy to get for any further travel you need to do. Some good restaurants within walking distant & many more just a tuk tuk ride away. The small plunge pool was great for a cool off after a long day at the beach & the aircon. worked really well in the room. Although there is only hot water in the first of the 4 rooms, the cool shower water is pleasant enough in the heat of January. Breakfast was ver good, with fruit platter, eggs to order +++ & also a typical Sri Lankan one morning. The hosts are very helpful and friendly & made our 8 day stay memorable. Thomas makes a 'wicked' cocktail & will experiment if you ask!! The owner Bathiya is also very friendly & has Papa Mango restaurant on the smaller beach. Worth a visit also. Good value for money.

A new hostel located on a gorgeous private beach in Mirissa, Sri Lanka, but centrally located within walking distance to the center of this vibrant town. We already have a stellar reputation of being the most lively community with good vibes, daily yoga, delicious local food, access to nightlife parties, and the best views of a calm private beach with the bluest waters. There are 6 spacious dormitories that all feature balconies facing the ocean. Private rooms are also available. All rooms have A/C, bathroom, and Wifi. The restaurant offers delicious meals, coffee, smoothies, alcoholic drinks, and snacks in front of a private beach all day.
I stayed at Satori for a long time during the high season and was super happy with my stay. The rooms are clean, the toilet and shower facilities are clean and nice. I particularly like the outdoor showers. The mattresses are comfy. There is a rooftop with priceless views of the ocean and the daily yoga classes there are a treat and only 1000rs for a 90 minute class, cheaper than other yoga classes in the area. The vegan cafe makes delicious food that is a fair price. The smoothie bowls are particularly yummy. There is a paddleboard to rent, towels available for hire, wifi in the cafe, nice balconies for each room, and access to your own little piece of beach. Calm waters, great for swimming. Its the perfect location between Weligama and Mirissa, a short scooter or tuk tuk ride to both towns, but you get the peace and quiet of being on a little private road away from the hustle and bustle of the towns. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in this area I couldn't recommend Satori enough!!!
