This is a great hostel to stay in. I stayed in a lovely private room with an en-suite bathroom. The bed was so comfy. Great shower. It cost about 11 euro a night (I always think in Euro) which is absolutely amazing value. I researched accommodation in Dali Old Town very thoroughly before I booked this hostel and it was one of the best and cheapest places to stay. The whole hostel is really tastefully decorated. Nice, airy common area to eat or chill in and a bottle of Dali beet is cheap there. It's located across the main road, just a short walk from the old town. My flight home got cancelled the day before so I had to stay another night but it was no hassle to book an extra night there. The hostel also organised a taxi to Dali airport for me. I would definitely recommend staying here. Also, 88 Bakery nearby is a really good place to eat.

We travelled as family with a toddler and stayed for 3 nights. Room: With an oriental touch, we enjoyed our room which had a lovely view of the Cangshan. Waking up to the sunshine falling on the mountains was a real delight (King Room with Mountain View) Service: The staff was polite and answered to all our questions. While the staff at the reception kept changing, the lady manager was very helpful in giving travel tips to us around sightseeing. Housekeeping was done daily. Breakfast: Being a hostel/Inn we went ahead and booked breakfast for throughout our stay. Must say we weren't satisfied with what we were served as we had no option and had to eat congee and buns. one meal is ok but not all. On our day of check-out we were declined breakfast as the cook wasn't available which really put us off as we had hurried to be on time with a toddler and no food to eat. our only complaint was let us know a night before so we are better prepared. We expressed our grievance to the lady manager who did her best to undo the mistake with multiple tries and finally compensated us by arranging a Lunch with other residents and staff. That felt like a warm meal with the locals. we really enjoyed and appreciate the length to which the manager went to make up for the mistake. Location: Very convenient, located almost across the main road of the west gate of Dali Ancient Town. Plenty of restaurant and shopping options around. LilyPad is a quiet, peaceful inn, suitable for families travelling on a budget.

The Dragonfly Guest House is a comfortable hostel located in ancient Dali. Our stylish rooms, both private and dorms, use only the best, soft western mattresses, modern bathroom facilities and have local handmade furniture. The Dragonfly also offers plenty of communal space, with a great courtyard garden, a cozy, fully stocked bar/cafe, an arts room and a rooftop terrace with spectacular views!
Charming hostel. Located right in the Dali old town, with a wonderful view of the mountain landscape from the rooftop. Very helpful and kind hosts. Stay. P.S. Make sure you turn the heating up as soon as you arrive, it can be pretty cold in the room otherwise.

Dali Hidden Garden is a small scale guesthouse, run by a Chinese/Dutch couple, Bai Mei and Stefan. We are located just outside Dali Old town (5 min walk), on the foothills of the Cangshan mountain range. Because of the higher elevation our roof terrace provides a magnificent view over Er Hai Lake and the Old Town, as well as the impressive mountains. Our Children's Playing Area offers trampoline, sandpit, climbing wall, drawing walls, books games and puzzles.
We were only here for one night but it was a great night. May was more than welcoming and helpful. She sent us in the directions we wanted to go. Rooms were comfortable. some local noises like a rooster in the morning but it made the stay feel like we were really in real Dali. The breakfast was delicious with May's homemade bread and yogurt. One of the best breakfasts I have had! When we came back through Dali for a day May offered us her help while we were passing through. A great China experience!

Sleepyfish is a fabulous lodge located on the East side of Dali Ancient City. We have modern facilities while still keeping a traditional Bai flavour. If you are looking for a friendly atmosphere, English speaking staff, clean rooms, soft beds, free wifi, quaint surroundings and a beautiful garden - this is the place for you! SleepyFish is foreign managed - English/Chinese speaking staff.
I first came across Sleepy Fish Lodge from reading online travel blogs and upon further research, I was immediately attracted to its location. It is near the East Gate of Dali Old City, and this makes it very convenient to visit the Erhai Lake or to take a stroll in the Old City, or even to the other attractions around Dali such as the Three Pagodas Park and the Cangshan . Upon entrance I was immediately greeted by its lush garden and inner courtyard, which really makes it stand out as a land of serenity among the hustle and bustle of the commercialized Dali Old City. The standard rooms are also really clean and spacious (for a solo traveller); and if you do decide to have breakfast there I highly recommend having the “breakfast set” that they have as it is very worth the money. The staff is perhaps another highlight of the Lodge, for they are helpful and attentive to my needs. Feel free to ask them for meal recommendations or tips on itinerary-planning while in Dali; and you won’t be disappointed! As they have a well-developed network around Dali, you could also get amenities (e-bike rental) or entrance tickets (for certain attractions) at a discount. Personally, I was very thankful to the staff for helping me to plan my itinerary for my two days in Dali; and the trouble they had to go through to help me to rent an e-bike even when I don’t exactly know how to ride it yet… And to top it off, the golden retriever in the yard is super friendly and definitely added a sense of charm to the Lodge. However, the only problem that I potentially see is perhaps the fact that most compounds around the Lodge rear their own dogs and when they bark at night it might be a disturbance to travellers who wish to have an early rest. But if you are one of those who wear earplugs to sleep, then it might not be a problem after all :)

We stumbled upon this great little bar and couldnt have been happier. George was exceptionally welcoming and his excellent range of home brewed beers were welcome respite from dull local lagers, and for me, the best I tried in Dali by a long margin. The stout, mead and rose beers are all a must try. Definitely check it out if youre in Dali.

Excellent place; beautiful gardens ( take the ride to the top) it’s up hill walk. Then walk down. Views from the top are great. Can easily spend several hours here with plenty to see. Must of the buildings are restored but still a must do if you visit Dali

This place was our home in Dali, we stayed a little over two weeks here and it was delightful. The room was really clean and it got clean daily, the common room was good wit a little pool table, and an incredible restaurant on the bottom that serves a chicken and eggplant that is delicious!! Highly recommended.
