Great hostel, would go back!

Reviewed By Odyssey60894742492

A really cool hostel just a 10 min walk away from the middle of Bruges. We got a warm welcome from the staff and the room was clean, if a bit sparse - but that was expected! The only (very!) few issues we had were: - with the duvets we found in the room’s cupboard, as there were a couple of stains on one. It had, in all likelihood, been washed but it might be an idea to take damaged bedding out of circulation, as it can be off-putting. - the room’s temperature was tricky to control; the radiator was on, so we turned it down. Room was still warm by the evening so we opened a window to sleep. Woke up chilly, got out the duvet (see above) - it would have been good to have a couple of extra towels to dry the bathroom floor with (or a bath mat) - the shower door allowed a fair amount of water through. It’s worth saying that we didn’t highlight any of the above to staff, as we were only there for a couple of days and the problems were easily mitigated. I’m in no doubt that they’d have fixed anything that was really bothering us. The positives far outweigh the negatives, in any case. The atmosphere in the evenings was lovely to sit amongst downstairs in the bar, and there were always tables and chairs available for chilling out after a day’s hard sightseeing. The decor’s great, and I liked that they had little potted plants everywhere. Everyone there is there to have a good time, and it really gets you into the adventurey spirit. The breakfast, too, was perfect. Lots of bits and pieces to choose from, it was constantly replenished and it set us up for the day. All-in-all, don’t think you could get better in Bruges for the price! Thanks for having us!

1Amazing Hostel Three Years In A Row! (Take the free walking tour and rent a kayak)

Reviewed By jennuhlee

Me and my boyfriend have been here three years in a row, because we absolutely LOVE Ghent, it is our favorite city in the world and this hostel just makes you feel like you're apart of it. We have taken a few of our friends here too and they loved staying here. We opt for the big room on top, the 10 person sleeper. It has the MOST AMAZING view. There is nothing like waking up and looking out the window at that picturesque scenery. Everyone at the hostel is always super nice, we usually make friends with whoever else is in the room and go out dancing with them which is always a super fun time! The location is right in city center, you can walk to any great restaurant or attraction. There is a small breakfast you can purchase in the morning but usually we just cook something in their super nice kitchen. However we do usually partake in a beer or two from the onsite bar. They also have board games in their common area which is a great way to break the ice with other visitors! The other super awesome thing about this hostel that they always have a great free walking tour (obviously you should give them a great tip if you can) and you can rent a kayak from the hostel and they will help you take it to the river and you literally kayak through the city right by the castle and everything! Omg the perfect place to give ya taste of what this amazing city has to offer!

The room were not equipped (no soap, no towels...) but it was clean.Good location and friendly staff. My bad experience was related to the acoustic isolation of walls. It is horrible. We were able to hear everything (words, steps, noises...). I was so mad and furious because I woke up at 3 am because of my neighbors normal discussion.

Decent enough for the price

Great location near transport and not too far from the centre. Rooms are decent but could do with a lick of paint. Some rooms are adjacent to the courtyard and it can very noisy as there is no staff present at certain hours of the night. Breakfast is OK, not enough variety and coffee machine wasn't working while we were there. Some of the female receptionists were not very friendly and were very blasé.

Treck Hostel

Treck Hostel is located in a former brickyard from 1854. It's the first indoor camping in Belgium. You don't sleep in a basic double room but in one of our ten theme caravans. For example: you can relax in the Zen caravan, reminisce about the past in the Retro caravan, run around wildly at the Jungle caravan or laze out in the hammock of the Hawaii caravan. Some of the caravans are designed by young artists of Ghent. Extra: for those who like wood, there's also a lovely suite. Curious? You can book a caravan for two, three or four persons. If you're traveling with friends, it's also possible to sleep in the small or the large dorm, with 5 and 13 beds respectively. The hostel also has a large relaxing room with a cosy sitting area, two pingpong-tables and a table football. For those who want to be a bit lazier: in our movies caravan, there's a nice television screen in vintage style waiting for you. If you want to cook for your friends, you can use our new kitchen. When you book an overnight stay at Treck Hostel, you get a tasty and fresh breakfast. The buffet is being served in our cosy bar 'Treckhaak' (Dutch for Towbar), a bar with a playful blend of styles, chairs, crates and cupboards on a warm wooden floor. Do you prefer the sun? Have a drink on our relaxing terrace or on one of the patios of the beautifully restored brickyard.

a unique place with a soul

Reviewed By TravellingNemesis

This is a very special place - basically a hostel that is as much an art project than a hostel! You sleep in a caravan, which is together with about 10 other caravans in a big hall. I would not worry about safety, since every caravan can be locked. It is a place that clearly has a heart for the local vulnerable citizens (cfr. the pictures of places where the homeless sleep in the yard) but also with visibly strong artistic talent among those who built it. My only recommendation would be that if you are a light sleeper, bring your own earplugs. There are sealed earplugs in the caravan, and you'll need them since given the auditive properties of the building, it is really noisy, even if guests are trying to keep silent (and at 3 am, a singing guest was not...) As for location: we walked to the city center, it's about 10-15 minutes. And because of its location slightly outside the center, it has this huge inner yard, which is fantastic when the sun shines. Staff was very friendly and relaxed - there are some local people from Gent working there, as well as some international volunteers who stay there for a while.

The modern youth hostel "De Peerdevisser" is located right in front of a beautiful dune area and at 10 minutes walking distance of a very large beach that is typical of Oostduinkerke. The youth hostel offers its guests both a comfortable stay and a friendly atmosphere. Children can play to their heart's desire in the playground of the youth hostel estate. The beach and the sea but no doubt also the nature reserves are the main asset of the seaside resort Koksijde-Oostduinkerke. They stretch over a total surface of 701 ha.

I booked a 2 person room. The room is spacious and the batchroom was renewed recently, so everything worked like a dream. All was clean and nice, plastic furnature is what you would expect in a hostel. The only downside (that can be simpley solved) is that the TV does not have any Dutch channels. Breakfast is simple, but matching expectations
